The ensign/captain was a little nervous, but thanks to his Orion physiology, it didn’t show at all. He really hoped that he wouldn’t have to keep up this charade.

-Ensign/Captain Deggur, Science/CO

The other Orion was a little upset by that comment. “Do you think us fools to be out here on a hunch?!! You’re ship is superior to ours and yet you act like a fool! I pity your crew…Captain! So again, do you know about them being here?”

Deggur was slightly taken aback by the vehemency of the other Orion’s ire. He felt that he should improvise a bit.

“Actually, we have detected something akin to a ‘sensor shadow’, if you will. Not unlike what could constitute a cloaked vessel. But again, I ask. Why are you searching for them here?”

-Ensign/Captain Deggur, Science/CO

“Are you not paying attention!? I told you that they were spotted here! Spotted and verified by a report!” He stopped to calm himself. “What is a sensor shadow? How can we do that?”

“Report? You didn’t mention a report,” Ensign/Captain Deggur responded, trying to keep the other Orion talking while the CSO and CE narrowed down the presence of the Romulans. “Could you transmit a copy of this report to us? And as far as a ‘sensor shadow’, they are fairly easy to detect, if you know what you’re looking for. Sometimes it appears as a sensor blip or stray emissions. Even the Romulan starships have to have a way to vent particles and such.”

He looked questioningly to Lt. Cmdr Grey and Lt. Whitney. He wanted to ask if they found something, but he felt that the other Orion was losing patience for his deception.

“I don’t have to mention a report to you! You’re not in my government let alone my chain of command. And you should know that our ships are not as sophisticated as yours!” He barked.

William once more stifled a snigger, this time being harder as he was turned towards the ‘Captain’ shaking his head as they had not found anything yet. How such a boorish man belonged to the same species as Deggur was indeed quite a thing.

CSO

Ensign/Captain Deggur was visibly starting to grow irritated by this Captain Driger, but he continued the charade, hoping that they would find something soon. “I understand that, Captain,” he growled, “but as a sophiscated starship, I was just trying to explain that even instruments as crude as yours would be able to detect stray gamma particles!”

Deggur realized as he said it that it might have been too much, but he couldn’t help himself. Driger was an insolent buffoon and he wished that he could fire phasers himself. But he was a Starfleet officer and would remain composed…

-Ensign/Captain Deggur, Science

Captain Driger was furious at what the Starfleet Captain said but remained somewhat composed even though you can tell in face he was mad because Starfleets ship can destroy theirs with no problem. “I understand. ” he said said through gritted teeth. He turned his head to issue orders to someone unseen to have them do as Starfleet instructed. He turned back to the view screen.

“Thank you Captain. Is there anything else or is that it? If it’s it then I will leave now. ” Still through gritted teeth.

Captain Driger, Orion

Deggur quickly glanced toward Captain Taggert for confirmation before he made a decision to let the Orions on their way…

Chris gave a very slight nod and went back to work until the View Screen was off.

“That’s all we need. Thank you for staying as long as you have and cooperating. You can be on your way now.” It was a lot friendlier a response than Deggur wanted to give the other Orion, but it was enough. “End hail,” he said, thankful that this deception had come to its end.

He looked to the captain with a quizzical expression on his face. “Two questions, sir? Did I handle that acceptably, and can I take this jacket off? I would much prefer my old blue uniform…”

-Ensign/Captain Deggur, Science/CO

Chris smiled at him and walked over putting his arm around his back since he wasn’t tall enough to put it around his shoulder. “You did excellent my boy! Proud of you! We didn’t have time to rehearse and you handled yourself like a true Captain. I’m sorry I had to use you that way Deggur. It was the only way I could see getting out of yet another fight. Thank you again. You may go change your shirt and take the rest of the day off if you wish. You’ve earned it.” He patted his back.

Deggur smiled, in that ferocious yet goofy grin of his. “Thank you, sir,” he said, as he did just that.
