Chris sent out an invitation for Ensign Deggur and his supervisor, Commander Grey to attend Dinner with him and the new XO in the Captain’s Ward Room. Uniform is Mess Dress and it is considered an honor to get an invitation.

Chris was in his Dress Whites looking good as usual when her found out the cook made his favorite, meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. He looked down at his uniform and patted it. “Sorry old friend. I hope the cleaners can get you looking as good as before once I’m done eating and drinking. ” He smiled to himself and looked up seeing the porter there staring away him and shaking his head. Chris cleared his throat and looked around for his drink and took a sip.

Looking back at the porter. “You did make sure to make specialities from Betazoid, Orion and Scotland, correct, with appropriate drinks?”

“Yes Chris. Calm down. You know us and we’ve never failed. ” The old man said gravely.

“Of course. Forgive me. I’m nervous as you will meet the new Executive Officer and a very bright Orion Ensign that saved our bacon near old Vulcan.”

Ther old man smiled. “Everything’s perfect Chris. Except your uniform after you eat. You eat like a wild man, like a viking. “

Chris laughed. “I agree. I’m going to try full be on my best eating behavior tonight because of the new XO, but I’m not going to promise you anything after I start drinking. ” He flashed a smile.

The old man smiled as well and then the smile faded. “Remember your problem Chris. You turned into an alcoholic after your wife passed. I’ve done my best to help you but you’re the only one that can help yourself now. Outside help can only go so far.”

Chris lost his smile and looked down. “I know Devlin. ” He downed his whiskey and poured another three fingers worth into the crystal glass. “I know. “

Captain Chris Taggart CO

Ensign Deggur was using his off-duty time to catch up on reading some old detective novels. One in particular that he was enthralled with was this chap by the name of Dixon Hill. A friend of his at the Academy recommended it to him and he was hooked ever since. While he was reading, he noticed a blinking light on his communications panel, indicating a message. He got up to check it, and it was an invitation to dinner from the Captain. That was an honor that he would not take lightly!

He responded to the message, saying that he would definitely be there, then immediately went to his wardrobe and pulled out his Dress Mess uniform. It had a few stains, thanks to his Academy graduation. The other cadets insisted on a get together, and he thought it was a formal affair. It was actually a pretty wild party, and Deggur had made the unfortunate decision to keep the uniform on during the occasion. Now he had a pale stain that he could not get out. He thought that it was Klingon Blood Wine, but he couldn’t be sure, as most of that night was lost to various alcoholic beverages. He was told not to mix Andorian Ale with Blood Wine and whatever that Tellarite brought with him.

After getting dressed, he made his way to the Captain’s Ward Room. He tapped the console next to the door, announcing his presence.

Chris was brought out of his loathing when he heard the chime. “Come!” Came the Captains voice. Once the doors opened Chris smiled. “Deggur! So glad you could make it. I want you to feel free to ask anything in here without fear of reprisal. You’ve earned that. And call me Chris while we’re in here. Can I get you a drink?”

The ensign was confused by the apparent friendliness of the captain, and answered, “I am not sure, Captai– I mean Chris.” His reply was hesitant, but as Taggart got closer to him, the Orion understood completely.

Deggur could already smell the alcohol on the Captain.

Chris Taggart

The Orion added, “Yes, I would love a drink, Captain. But I don’t think I should call you by your first name. It is not proper.” He added, “Even if my first assignment was to impersonate your position.”

Taiya followed behind shortly after and pressed the door chime as she instinctively straightened her uniform and stood to attention. She was still a little nervous around the Captain but she hoped that this dinner would ease the slight tension that she felt when she was around him.

Commander Keali (XO)

Although William was at the same moment surprised and not so much by the invitation. Captain Taggart was a shade or twelve more Social than their Previous Vulcan Commanding Officer. He walked to his closet, pressing the panel that swooshed the door opened and looked at his uniforms. Most of them were new as he had to replace his entire Fleet wardrobe after his unexpected promotion, the extra a half stripe made a world of difference.. He moved his blue uniforms to the side and looked at the grey dress uniform. Dress White’s indeed A minute later he was dressed, smoothing out his uniform he grabbed the cap and carefully placed it on his head. This was the first time he had the opportunity to wear it so the uniform was a little rigid and tight, much like its wearer.

Arriving only a minute after the first officer arrived William joined her “Commander” He said quite formally, placing his hands behind his back.

Keali smiled and nodded. “Good evening Lt Commander, good to see you again,” she said warmly as the Captain approached them.

“Likewise Commander” William answered politely.

Chris turned from Deggur and opened the door. “Welcome you two! Commander. I want you to meet a very good Ensign. Ensign Deggur. He played Captain for me while we got away from the Orions just before you came on board. He has the knack. “

Captain Chris Taggart CO

“I am not entirely sure what the ‘knack’ is, Captain,” Deggur said as he watched the others file in.

Taiya chuckled as she extended her hand towards the Ensign. “Duly noted sir, I’ll watch my back in that case,” she grinned as she shook Deggur’s hand. “Pleased to meet you Ensign,” she added with a little nod.

“And you as well,” Deggur said as he shook her hand. She would notice that he was a bit awkward, but had a strong grip. It isn’t often that an Orion signs up for a position in the Sciences.

Reid showed up in a crisply maintained uniform. Walking in, he noticed the other guests and said “I hope I didn’t receive an invitation by mistake.” He smiled awkwardly.

-Dr Alex Reid, CE

“Not at all!” Chris said walking over and putting his hand out to shake. “You’re here because I invited you. You’re new to the ship and I wanted to get you in here to meet you in a different light. Have a seat, mingle, eat and drink.” Cherries said as he went to his chair.

Captain Chris Taggart CO

OOC: I almost wrote this in IC But I thought you’d rather change your post, Deggur is Science so he is Williams officer, not Reid’s.
Hjortur

OOC: $$@%&*%$ Thanks. Fixed.

Captain Chris Taggart CO

Ensign Deggur turned to Dr. Reid. “Hello,” he said, “I am Deggur. You are?” As he waited for a response, the 7‘2” Orion held out his hand and smiled in a grin that was meant to be jovial, but looked more like a lion about to eat… teeth and all.

-Ensign Deggur, Science

Spotting their new Chief Engineer, Taiya made her way across to greet him. “Dr. Reid I presume? I don’t believe we’ve had the pleasure, Commander Keali, Executive Officer,” she said with a warm smile.

Commander Keali (XO)

He awkwardly waved to both of them. “Yes, I am Dr Alex Reid.” He looked to Deggur. “I’m the new chief engineer.” An IQ of 187 and no clue what to say or do around people.

-Dr Alex Reid

William was absentmindedly examing the room “Leftenant Commander Grey” He said half turned from the group “Although I suppose I am also Doctor” He smiled at the group, turning slightly to face them “But William will do”

“Most people just call me Reid.”

CSO

In his best Cockney accent (better than Dick Van Dyke anyways). “Leftenant? I didn’t know you held archaic British rank mate. Cheers on that.” In his regular hilljack accent. “But glad you’re here anyway. Since we have soooo many doctors in the room they’re has been something I have always wanted to do. It’s a scene from Spies Like Us with Dan Ackroyd and Chevy Chase . They are with a bunch of doctors and shake hands saying doctor each time. It’s hilarious !” He grabbed Grey’s hand and shook it. “Doctor.” Then Keali’s hand “Doctor.” And so on.

Captain Chris Taggart CO

Ensign Deggur watched the exchange with a sort of quizzical expression. “Are Dr. Ackroyd and Dr. Chase going to join us?”

-Ensign Deggur, Science

Reid began to recite “Dan Ackroyd and Chevy Chase were actually prominent actors of the 20th and 21st centuries. Dan Ackroyd being known for The Blues Brothers and Ghostbusters, Chevy Chase for National Lampoon’s Vacation series and Caddyshack. Both of them were at their most prominent during the 1980s. In 1985 they costarred in an action comedy called ‘Spies Like Us’ which the Captain was just referring to.”

-Dr Alex Reid

Ensign Deggur looked at Dr. Reid with a vacant expression, sort of like someone listening to a foreign language for the first time. He shrugged and took a sip from his drink. He lifted his glass to Reid and said, “That is a lot of information that I do not understand, but here, here! That was incredible! It was like I was reading it straight from the book it was written…”

Chris blinked. “Wow! You really do have a photographic memory. That’s impressive!”

William looked at the Captain for a good long while before speaking “I am not certain that someone obsessed with referencing an archaic entertainment form should insult the manner which a person speaks. Leftenant is a pronunciation difference, not a rank difference.” Then as if someone flipped a switch his soft Scottish accent was replaced with his naturalised Austin Texas Accent “And keep the accents to the professionals, sir.” He said with a straight face although the mocking was heavily implied.

CSO

Chris laughed. “Tu Shay. Come have a drink with me. ” Then he looked around the room. “Who’s hungry?”

Chris

William nodded at the Captains acknowledgment. He poured himself a glass of what smelled like Single Isle malt. He raised the glass to his nose and inhaled deeply “Not bad, sir” He said before taking the first sip “I ate last during yesterdays lunch, I could eat” He informed the group.

CSO

“As could I,” Deggur responded, right before his stomach attempted a response as well.
