William was absentmindedly examing the room “Leftenant Commander Grey” He said half turned from the group “Although I suppose I am also Doctor” He smiled at the group, turning slightly to face them “But William will do”

“Most people just call me Reid.”

CSO

In his best Cockney accent (better than Dick Van Dyke anyways). “Leftenant? I didn’t know you held archaic British rank mate. Cheers on that.” In his regular hilljack accent. “But glad you’re here anyway. Since we have soooo many doctors in the room they’re has been something I have always wanted to do. It’s a scene from Spies Like Us with Dan Ackroyd and Chevy Chase . They are with a bunch of doctors and shake hands saying doctor each time. It’s hilarious !” He grabbed Grey’s hand and shook it. “Doctor.” Then Keali’s hand “Doctor.” And so on.

Captain Chris Taggart CO

Ensign Deggur watched the exchange with a sort of quizzical expression. “Are Dr. Ackroyd and Dr. Chase going to join us?”

-Ensign Deggur, Science

Reid began to recite “Dan Ackroyd and Chevy Chase were actually prominent actors of the 20th and 21st centuries. Dan Ackroyd being known for The Blues Brothers and Ghostbusters, Chevy Chase for National Lampoon’s Vacation series and Caddyshack. Both of them were at their most prominent during the 1980s. In 1985 they costarred in an action comedy called ‘Spies Like Us’ which the Captain was just referring to.”

-Dr Alex Reid

Ensign Deggur looked at Dr. Reid with a vacant expression, sort of like someone listening to a foreign language for the first time. He shrugged and took a sip from his drink. He lifted his glass to Reid and said, “That is a lot of information that I do not understand, but here, here! That was incredible! It was like I was reading it straight from the book it was written…”

Chris blinked. “Wow! You really do have a photographic memory. That’s impressive!”

William looked at the Captain for a good long while before speaking “I am not certain that someone obsessed with referencing an archaic entertainment form should insult the manner which a person speaks. Leftenant is a pronunciation difference, not a rank difference.” Then as if someone flipped a switch his soft Scottish accent was replaced with his naturalised Austin Texas Accent “And keep the accents to the professionals, sir.” He said with a straight face although the mocking was heavily implied.

CSO

Chris laughed. “Tu Shay. Come have a drink with me. ” Then he looked around the room. “Who’s hungry?”

Chris

William nodded at the Captains acknowledgment. He poured himself a glass of what smelled like Single Isle malt. He raised the glass to his nose and inhaled deeply “Not bad, sir” He said before taking the first sip “I ate last during yesterdays lunch, I could eat” He informed the group.

CSO

“As could I,” Deggur responded, right before his stomach attempted a response as well.

Ensign Deggur, Science

Taiya nodded enthusiastically. Having endured days of shuttle craft rations she was keen to eat some real food. “What’s on the menu sir?” She asked, trying not to dribble on her shirt.

Keali (XO)

“Well. I had food prepared from your homeworld and regions. I thought that you might want a taste of home. The drinks are also from your region’s. But feel free to try other dishes. I personally love meatloaf and the Chef here makes one just like my mom used to. So dig in and enjoy!” With that he sat down and put two slices of meatloaf on his plate and passed it around. Then he put mashed potatoes and gravy on his plate and passed those two dishes around as well.

Reid smiled. “Does Vegas have a native cuisine?” He sat down at the table. “We didn’t really eat homemade food when I was growing up.” He took a slice of meatloaf and some mashed potatoes, thinking he might sample some extraterrestrial food that night. “I was 13 when I finished high school and moved to MIT, so I probably just didn’t get out enough to notice Las Vegas culture.”

-Dr Alex Reid

“My ma wouldn’t let me join university till I turned 15” Will said with a half-smile, grabbing some fried meat and something he could only assume was Orion food “Said that I needed more time to grow a work ethic, put me to work on the farm, made me fraternize with people my own age. Still, I think the wait was worth it.” He finished preparing his place “I’ve never been to Vegas, well I’ve only ever been to Dallas and San Francisco. Well and Inverness where I grew up as a child”

CSO

Realizing that the Captain had taken the care to have some Orion foods brought in, he observed the choices, and grabbed a plate. First, he found the juiciest wing-slug and put it on his dish, then added some of the spices that resembled potato shavings to the slug. As he was looking over the options, he noticed that there was a pan full of Demma. There was no way the Captain could have known how powerful an aphrodisiac it was, especially to non-Orions, so Deggur almost dropped his plate as he grabbed the whole pan, mainly to keep it away from everyone else. He tried to play it off as if he was really hungry, but he just didn’t want this ‘party’ to devolve into debauchery.
