Then within a moment the jostling about died down by quite a bit, coming through the cloud cover the team could see not too far off a large lightening storm and rain cloud breaking hard over a nice sized village to the north of where they were going to be landing. Faint flickers of what might be fire were dotted here and there, and given they could just barely see them probably indicated they were a bit bigger then just your usual cooking fire. Above it on a high ridge was a quite large and dark looking Gothic styled castle. But then their approach of this view was taken from then by another encroaching cloud taking the village and castle from their sight.

”..Looks like the best landing site is about 3km from that village we saw which from the report I got also is near about to where those warp signatures were picked up. There’s a nearby road for wagons about 500 meters from the clearing we’ll be landing in. Maybe you can snatch a ride by a passing wagon or something..” He said as the shuttle began its final approach to a small clearing just barely big enough through the tree branches for the shuttle to fit. With a soft thud the shuttle touched down in the foggy depth of night. Scans of the are showed little life nearby beyond some small critters though with the deep fog hanging nearby among the woods and the swaying of branches and bushes it was almost like the shadows were alive......likely just a trick of the minimal light from their shuttle no doubt.

William took out his scanner and started a widespread scan of the area. He felt out of place in this outfit, he had gotten used to wearing the blue uniform and black slacks that anything else just felt uncomfortable.

William’s scans as he debarked from the shuttle’s side quickly came back. Life nearby was minimal, mostly made up of small animals akin to rabbits, squirrels, and other small mammals. Plant life was a lot like Earth’s oak and Conifer trees among the forest scattered with a quite surprisingly large array of berry and fungus’s all edible among the foliage. However, the scans were only clear out to a range of 500 ft, from there the resolution dropped off sharply due to some kind of interference that seemed due to local mineral deposits not too far below the surface as well as the electrical static charge of the fog and nearby storm system.

NE Useful spoke up checking a geographical scan. “..Looks like there’s a road a few hundred yards due north of us. From our fly in it seems to lead to that town we want to get too, as well as further south to another smaller village. I’m picking up also scattered farmlands and likely houses from the local populace. Probably best for you guys to get moving. I’ll stay here and do what I can to hide the shuttle from any prying passing eyes..” He suggested.

Blaze got up “ I was hoping we could see with the villagers were wearing so we can fabricate something and blend in anyway keep your phasers out of view” he opened a box and pulled an bow and arrows. The last mission got him use to his archery skills again.

Dr. Alexander Blaze (Engineer)

(O) Chernov Shuttle One, this is the Captain. It appears on our scans that there are two campfires, large wagons and horses near your location that were not there before. Could be the thick fog but we are recalibrating our sensors to better peer through the dense fog and lightning storms. Stay on guard and keep regular check ins every hour. (O)

Captain Chris Taggart CO

[O]Chernov, loud and clear. Any chance they saw our shuttle on the way down?[C]

-Lt Cmdr David Malkin, XO

(O) I don’t think so. They are not in a hurry to go anywhere and there is no movement on their part. Just be cautious. (O)

Captain Chris Taggart CO

[O]Understood Captain.[C]

Blaze checked his bow and scanned for any life signs before opening the shuttles door. Oh great is it raining”

Dr. Alexander Blaze (Engineer)

William huffed “My scanner is only viable up to a hundred’n’fifty meters” William told the first officer in an annoyed voice, placing the device back into his satchel “Local plant and wildlife doesn’t seem to be anything of particular interest, fairly basic” He said walking outside and looking around “Where to?” He asked without looking back, it was nice to have some fresh air.

“What do we know about where we are relative to the origin of the warp signatures and the indigenous society? It might do to see if they know anything, by way of observation. They probably don’t have anything to do with starting it, but if they’re aware of the phenomenon, it could be a part of their culture.”

-Lt Cmdr David Malkin, XO

The area they were in was wooded as mentioned before, their target was the larger village to the north near the larger mountains about several miles north of them. The only direct way there was by the dirt road not far from their current location. What they knew about this culture was very minimal, medieval in nature, human like in appearance, and not much else. If these warp bursts were part of their culture or were known about there was no sign of it from what little they had seen so far. Perhaps given they would run into them anyhow on their trip north they might learn more from the group of travelers up the road from them that had been reported by the Chernov. It was a good a spot as any to begin their investigation.

David thought for a moment. “Everyone get ready to move out. We’re going to follow that road toward the origin point of the warp signatures. Dr Reid, assess where they are in medieval technological progression if you can. Cmdr Grey, observe what you can about them from a xenobiological standpoint. If you can glean anything from talking to them, I welcome it, just keep the prime directive in mind. Ensign Blaze, keep your weapon down for the moment. The less threatening we appear, the more likely we are to learn something. Help Dr Reid with the technological assessment. Your priority is finding out if they’ve been near the warp signatures. Lt Kane, they may have just stopped for rest, but be ready to offer assistance to any injured as a bargaining chip.” David looked around to make sure everyone understood their orders.

“Sure. I’ll just use my ‘witchcraft’ to mend their bones and get burned at the stake.” Kane retorted sarcastically. “I mean, can you imagine their reaction if I hit them with a dermal regenerator? Glad I brought just plain cotton bandages and iodine.”

“Ok. Let’s go.” He turned around and stared walking.

-Lt Cmdr David Malkin, XO

Blaze walked over to Reid “ how about this our story can be we are hunters looking for a good hunting location you can talk to them and I can pretend I am reading something but I but I am actually gonna be scanning them to see if they have any war particles on them to see if they came in contact with the work signature”

Dr. Alexander Blaze (Engineer)

Kane, CMO

“Maybe we should start with a visual inspection. Keep our technology far away from the natives.” Reid replied.

-Dr Alex Reid

“I like the hunters story though.” David commented back to the engineers. “With your bow you’re fairly convincing. We’re out here exploring. You’re in charge of keeping us fed. That story suit you?”

-Lt Cmdr David Malkin, XO
