Blaze I looked around “ If I’m not mistaken I heard you said earlier. It was a nice tone how about I play a tone from my hometown” he said pulling a small ocarina from his back.

Dr. Alexander Blaze (Engineer)

Petre’s wife turned back to Blaze, eyeing the ocarina a moment. “..No outsider could truly appreciate the beauty of a Vistani’s tune. But you may enlighten us if you wish. The fire’s light knows my sisters and I could use the break! I just shall hope your tune does not draw in danger it should instead ward off!” She stated.

Petre looked to Blaze as if translating his wife’s words. “..What she means is be careful of what sort of tune you make. Certain tunes in these dark lands lure in danger while others ward them off. Choose carefully..” He stated

“It’s fine Petre is it? We can take care of the food and water ourselves. I and we thank you for what you have done so far. Yes indeed ma’am we look different from others but that does not mean we are lying. I trust that you Vistani are a psychic people? Able to see or sense auras? We are here because of what is happening of late. Can you give us information about what is going on and what it was like before this started?”

Petre regarded Taggert. “..Psychic? No we Vistani do not posses such supernatural abilities. The Seer of ones camp often can foretell great things, such as a future or past event. Or see the truth of ones mind or body or soul, but is it not a psychic ability as you might understand. A surprising declaration though and question though. One I would not expect of such an outsider.” Petre said bowling out a dish of stew and a glass of wine before taking a seat within the fire’s light on a large log. For the moment he did not go on answering Taggert’s question of ‘odd happenings’.

Chris pointed to Mwezi. “This werewolf is one of the good ones. You heard the old lady and her son men. I want Mwezi and William the Grey to take first watch, then myself and Ranger Blaze the second, Kane and the Elf (Vulcan whose name I can’t remember right now, sorry) third watch. Rotate every two hours. Help yourselves to food and water only and stay in the fires light. Especially you Mwezi unless you need to use the restroom. Do not, I repeat. Do not go outside the fires light no matter what you hear, smell or see. The old lady warned us. Dismissed.”

Captain Chris Taggart CO

Mwezi was quiet as Taggart called him a werewolf, although there was a sense of annoyance in his furrowed brow. He was nothing of the sort. A werewolf was a mindless beast who was human during the day. He proudly bore his fur and teeth at all hours.

“My Lord. With your permission, I’ll oversee every change of the watch. Position our guards.” David did his best to play a role he hadn’t seen since reading about King Arthur.

-Lt Cmdr David Malkin, XO

Chris nodded. “Very well Commander. Take charge of your forces. I may be of high noble stature but that doesn’t preclude me from the rotation.”

Lord Taggart, CO of the Fellowship of the Warp.

Petre watched the going ons, finishing his small bowl of stew by this point. “You ask of odd happenings, as my Mother had mentioned. In truth I am probably the last person you would wish to ask of such things. The men of our tribe are rarely informed in depth of the going ons in this land. Your question would be better directed to my wife or one of her sisters. They are the ones at my Mother’s behest who have been investigating odd sightings and events as we have traveled North in the past weeks directed by a ‘feeling’ of my Mothers.” He said.

As if on cue Petre’s wife silently took a seat next to Petre carrying her own bowl and wine glass, she looked calmer then before though no less friendly to open up talks. Two of the three sisters also were present a bit further away quietly talking to each other while they were exchanging some kind of game using worn marked cards of some sort.

For those on patrol at the fire’s edge nothing seemed amiss for now. For those without anything else to do they could relax or investigate as their hearts desired.

GM CockRoach

“Very well Mr. Petre. Thank you for the information you gave thus far.” He looked at Petre’s wife and her sisters. “Would any of you would like enlightening us as to the mysteries going on here? Or do I need to trade information for information?”

Lord Taggart CO Fellowship of the Warp

”..You may address me as, Rasona. Enlightening an outsider such as yourself would take far more hours in a night or day then would be wise. But since the Seer has seen fit to invite you to stay the night I only assume it so you learn something that only she can fathom. So ask your questions, I will enlighten your outsider mind as much as I am able or willing to do..” Rasona said.

GM CockRoach

“Listen, Rasona. We are outsiders but to us you are the outsiders. So let’s just cut the I’m not part of your group so I can’t be trusted routine. We are in this together, so please stop insulting us every chance you get. Or we will just leave and let you deal with the damn problem since you’re so high and mighty!

There was a long pause in the talking at the blunt nature Taggert addressed Rasona, even by Petre who seemed a bit more laid back. Had the CO just insulted and ruined the chance for information?

“Now what we want to know is what’s going on here? We have heard reports about strange lights and energy outputs near those mountains. So what’s going on?”

Then the long pause was broken and a sharp laugh came from Rasona. A twinkle of anger and oddly amusement was in her eyes. “..You are certainly an odd one outsider. You speak as if you have no clue of the dangers for being so forward to one such as I. Something I sense is not too far from the truth..” She said with a smirk, then sipped her drink.

Setting the cup down she continued. “..The oddities in the sky that draw us Vistani north began almost two cycles of the moon ago. The Lord of this region of Barovia, already a rarely seen in the public eye had withdrawn even more in the six cycles prior to this. Not unheard of at times especially when he seeks a new wife. But such a marriage had been performed barely a year before. So we knew it could not be this. Still the oddities in the sky were bright lights, flashes of white-silver streaking like lightening from one horizon to the other. Each time it seemed to shake the ground to the north in the mountains if the wild barbarians there had any say of truth to our questioning.” Glancing in the direction of Mwezi. “..But you should know much of this given one travels with you no?” She said questioningly in return.

Mwezi crouched at the firelight’s edge, a few feet away from one of the native men who was also keeping watch. He honestly struggled to make out half of what they were saying, despite having checked to make sure the Universal Translator function of his U.R.I. was in good working order. He lifted a hand to the native male and waved slightly, trying to give him a smile that wouldn’t look like a snarl.

“I am not as, uh, eloquent as my fellows, but I am still curious. Other than the mindless werewolves, one of which I am not, what are we watching out for? The grey-haired one mentioned something about things we might see, smell, or hear? What did she mean by that?”

Mwezi, CTO

The Vistani man glanced at Mwezi, “..There are many dangers of the night. Restless spirits for one seek to lure the unwary to their doom. Skin walkers who will flay the skin off their victims and wear it as their own feasting upon the innards. Even dark fey who sing sweet songs of lure and seduce foolish mortals to their death off cliffs. All of this and more we must always be aware of. While the Lord of Barovia’s protection is strong for Vistani such as ours, there are those who do not listen or follow it..” He explained.

William stood next to Mwezi, standing as straight as usual with hands behind his back. He was admittedly annoyed at the current situation, the others seemed more interested in playing some sort of game assuming roles from one of the Captains Visual Media stories than actually focusing on their mission. Then Will reminded his more rigid side that the job could be fun if he let himself, or they let themselves. He let out an amused snort at the Laleri’s comment ‘eloquent’.

CSO, 2O

Mwezi glanced at Taggart but didn’t say anything to him. “Who is the Lord of Barovia?” he asked, head tilted slightly.

Blaze Brought the Ocarina up to his lips and played a tone about blue sky, green fields and clear water the played a tune of happiness and fellowship. When his song was over he had a tear in his eyes he haven’t been home in a long time he missed his family and his farm he grew up on but his farm and family were not there they were long gone. Blaze then looked around the fire to see what the other people thought about his song.

Ranger Blaze fellowship of the warp

The tune Blaze played seemed to settle some of the tense atmosphere around the Vistani camp, though thankfully did not attract any undue attention.....yet.

One of the other female Vistani looked at Blaze as he finished. “..A curious tune, outsider. I am a master of culture and music for much of this region of the Core and yet I do not recognize this instrument or tune. Tell me more..” She stated.

GM CockRoach

Blaze smiled warmly to her “the tune is from my family who are no longer with us and this is called an ocarina. It is a easy made wind Instrument like a flute. It can be made from wood or clay stone”
