There was some noise at the front of the room, once everyone had seated themselves, or at least gotten mostly seated. It seemed there was something happening. A figure who might seem familiar to some of the Starfleet personnel who had been here on their previous trip to Galdor, a Raka male with dark ginger fur and grey clothing with golden trim, stood at the mic, and was tapping it lightly. There appeared to be a two-tiered platform system in place, to allow the shorter races to use the mic easily.

“Hello, yes. Hello all, and welcome to our guests. To our guests from among the stars, I am Controller Zish, one of the twelve leaders of the planetary government of Galdor. I am pleased to welcome you to this ceremony. I would ask that you are quiet and refrain from creating any disturbances… As your Captain knows, it was quite the discussion that led to your being allowed to join us in this… and it was a close decision. We are a deeply religious people. We acknowledge that some of you are not, but we ask you to keep an open mind. Without further delay, let us begin…”

There was a pause of a few moments.

Mwezi stepped out of the small door at the back of the stage area and stepped up to Zish. He wore a black outfit with green trim. A Laleri male with silvering brown fur followed after him. Like Zish, this male had golden lining on his clothing.

The three gathered around the stand, and Mwezi stood between the other two. The older Laleri smiled slightly at Mwezi. “Ka’de Me’zi,” he started. “We welcome you to the Temple, and we greet the gods in your honour. Which god do you honour with your heart?”

Mwezi bowed his head, and knelt where he stood. “I honour the Great Moon who stands guard over the night, and I greet the Swift Sky, the messenger, he who carries me home from afar.”

  • Mwezi

This is fabulous Chris thought to himself. He was very proud of the man or lupine thing that Mwezi has become.

Captain Chris Taggart CO

Next to Chris, the XO was also mentally remarking on the fine officer and man being commended. A noble moment.

-Lt Cmdr David Malkin, XO

The older Laleri lifted a very thin knife, almost more of an awl than a knife, from the pedestal and held in in the air. Zish picked up a medical device that the medics in the room would recognize as a dermal regenerator. “Do you pledge your life once more to the service?” The Laleri Controller asked.

Mwezi bowed his head. “As twice before I have pledged, I once more give my life.”

“Your blood is a symbol of your pledge,” Zish spoke, and placed a piece of wood behind Mwezi’s left ear, just above the earring that was already there. “Your ring is a reminder of your promise.”

There was a swift movement, and Mwezi barely even flinched as his ear was pierced. A few drops of blood were allowed to drip from the end of the awl into a small bowl, then dermal regenerator was used with the awl still in place, and then the awl was removed and a shiny ring was put in its place. The audience might notice that Zish and the Laleri each had ears full of similar rings, each representing a rank. Each of the Controllers had four earrings in the left ear and five in the right.

Mwezi stood, and Zish and the old Laleri took hold of his robes. “You shall also mark your rank with new robes, Kra’le Me’zi,” they spoke in unison, and pulled at the shoulders. Mwezi’s robes fell off, revealing that he wore a second robe underneath, similar black colour but with yellow trim.

“Serve with excellence.”
“Serve with humility.”
“Serve with diligence.”
“Serve with honour.”
“Serve with love.”

With each sentence, Mwezi took a step forward, until he was at the edge of the stage. “I will serve my world, and all the worlds around. For the honour of the gods. For the honour of Galdor.”

The pair stayed at the back while Mwezi continued to stand at the front in silence. There was a long pause.

OOC: To be continued

Ensign Valharra watched as they pierced his ear. He noticed some in attendence flinched at the process, but as a Vulcan, he showed no emotion to the procedure.

As the ear was pierced, Kane subconsciously reached up and touched the lobe of his left ear. A scar bisected the lobe, and he stroked it. “Dude is solid, that’s for sure. I probably would’a cussed a bit.” he mumbled under his breath.

Kane, CMO

David shot Kane a glare. They were guests under delicate enough circumstances.

-Lt Cmdr David Malkin, XO

Mwezi stood upon the platform, quietly closing his eyes and raising both palms into the air. The rest of the Galdori would do the same, and anyone who had been to the previous visit to Galdor would recognize this as the way that the people prayed to the god-like entities that they believed guided their path through history.

After a pause, Mwezi’s face began to almost glow, as if there was a light shining down on him from above.

Mwezi could feel a brush of warmth touching his face, like someone had put their paw up against his cheek. He opened his eyes, confusedly looking around, but seeing no one nearby who could have touched him. This wasn’t part of the ceremony…

“Me’zi. Ambassador and Protector. Thank you for your brave service insofar as it has thus been,” a soft voice whispered that no one else could hear, although the others in the room could see the ghostly figure of a tall Laleri leaning over him and speaking into his ear. “We have seen you, even so far away as you are. We would like you to carry this message to your fellows as well, that they are not abandoned.”

Mwezi nodded, his face filled with awe. “My Lady Lu’ne,” he muttered, trying to fall to his knees and bow to the being he knew as a goddess. But he was stopped, and lifted to his feet.

“No need for that. Just continue being who you are, Me’zi. We see great things in the future for this joining of Galdor to the Federation. Be confident in the binding of your two groups. It will bring blessings to all,” she spoke, again only to the Laleri on stage, then her ghostly form faded and Mwezi sank to his knees.

The other Galdori in the room shared awed glances.

Mwezi spoke. “The goddess Lu’ne has shared her greetings for those within this assembly, and has directly endorsed the joining of Galdor and the Federation,” he said, in a loud voice. A reverent silence fell over the room.

Mwezi, CTO

OOC: for the uninitiated, allow me to explain. There is a race of beings somewhat like a mix between the Q and the Prophets of Bajor who watch over the people of Galdor and are often credited for the creation of the various Galdori races. The Galdori worship them as gods. The beings are good-natured, at the very least. That’s all the info you get for now.

bump.

Kane watched the ceremony with a blank expression. But even he had to softly mumble “Well there’s something you don’t see everyday…”

Kane, CMO

Ensign Valharra stood and watched the ceremony. This was very different, but exciting as this was his first ceremony with the ship. His face showed no emotion, and it was as if he was deep in thought.

OOC: Let me know when you are done so I can continue with the next phase of this.

IC: Chris was amazed and he now understood why Mwezi got so upset when he tried to give him the earring before. He felt real bad at that moment. After hearing about the joining of these two great powers Chris was thrilled and was getting ready to clap when he heard nothing and thought it best to wait for a bit.

Captain Chris Taggart, CO

The Controllers stepped up to stand next to Mwezi, looking a bit concerned. Zish cleared his throat and stepped over to the microphone. “Um, that was unexpected. For those of you who are visitors… there is generally what we consider to be an appearance of our gods, specifically the glowing of the face of the individual who has been promoted.”

There was some muttering of agreement, and Zish nearly continued before Mwezi spoke up. “I do not think there is anything special about me. It was simply an opportunity. They wanted to speak to both the Federation and Galdor. It was a good moment… We just got caught up in it.”

Zish nodded. “This would result in some serious dialogue between our governments if we were not in the process of drafting the paperwork for our formal joining into the Federation already,” he said with somewhat of a grin. “I suppose that is news to our visitors, as we are not aware of any announcements having been made on the Federation side as to that decision. If we could, I would like to speak with the Captain later. In any regard, the ceremony is finished, and there are refreshments in the adjoining chamber for any who wish to stay and celebrate Me’zi’s promotion.”

Chris was speechless. This was a great day. HE stood up. “Excuse me Esteemed Zish. I will be more than happy to consult with you later but right now we need to do our part of the ceremony.” He walked to get onto the stage and looked out to everyone in attendance. “Greetings. My name is Chris Taggart and I am the Captain of the Federation Ship USS Chernov. I talked it over with your host to not only let us see a promotion and award ceremony but for you all to witness one of ours as well.”

The older Laleri who had been up on the stage nodded slightly, being the ‘host’ that Chris spoke of. “Sorry, Zish. I may have neglected to mention it to you.” He muttered. “We are honoured to see your ceremony as well. Everyone, please return to your seats.”

Crelle had not even realized she was standing when she returned to her seat. The ceremony had been beautiful and heartfelt, and she had been swept up in the mystery of it all. Blue eyes continued to watch in awe of the Lieutenant as the ceremony continued.

Mwezi grinned, then made his way off the platform and slipped through the audience in an attempt to reach Taggart. It was difficult, as he was being congratulated on his promotion. Most of the Galdori seemed to take the appearance of their god-figure in stride, not really dwelling on it and just treating this like a normal promotion.

Mwezi, CTO

OOC: okay, I’m done my thing.

“So with that being said. Lt Mewzi I will need you back on stage and along with Commander Grey, Lt. Kane, Ensign Blaze. You are all to be awarded the Federations third highest Military decoration for Valor in the face of the enemy during combat. The Silver Star. (https://stexpanded.fandom.com/wiki/Silver_Star). I will not be presented this award because I played no part in it as I was not able to do anything but lead. I will be given the Legion of Merit for my participation which Zish will present to me. Front and Center.”

Captain Chris Taggart, CO

Crelle was beside herself. The Silver star. Never had she seen such a prestigious award given to any officer before and to think today she would witness it, after an already heady and heartfelt beginning for the Lieutenant Crelle felt pride swell in her at the thought of her crewmates.

Mwezi stopped and turned back, heading back onto the stage. He had certainly not expected this. A promotion and an award. Wow. He bowed his head slightly to Taggart.

The greying Laleri, Controller Vik, stepped over, holding a case of five medals, the ones Taggart had mentioned. “It is odd to participate in a human awards ceremony, but we will do so with great honour,” he spoke, giving a small bow of his head.

  • Mwezi and Galdori officials

Kane cursed silently, but his face showed his discomfort in being part of the awards ceremony. Still, he uncrossed his arms and made his way to the stage and stood next to Mwezi. Quietly, he said “Congrats. To celebrate, I won’t call you Warren for the rest of the day.” while looking straight ahead. The vast majority of people just meeting Kane would find that highly crass, but Mwezi and he had served together long enough for the Galdorian officer to know that that was a sincere gesture from the mostly disaffected and rough Medical Officer.

Kane, CMO

Crelle smiled to herself at her CMO being proverbially shoved into the spotlight. She knew the man would hate it, but she also knew the Captain wouldn’t spare him the torture. Part of her enjoyed his discomfort, another part understood his pain. Their Captain loved his jokes after all.

Crelle, Ensign

Ensign Valharra watched as the CMO received the silver star and started daydreaming if there would ever be a day, he would get to be up there for something he did on a mission.
Ensign Valharra, Security

Mwezi stoically waited for his medal, his eyes meeting those of Valharra. The Vulcan was a good officer, most of the time.

Mwezi, CTO

Will had stayed in the back of the group for most of the celebration, this was in his opinion Mwezi’s day and he respected the man enough to keep his mouth shut. He watched with interest during the ceremony, their religious devotion was in equal measure ridiculous and beautiful to him, their oaths and pledges felt both ancient and modern, a people with great respect and admiration for their own past. He had in fact been so deep in his own analyses of the events that it took his conscious mind a minute to properly realize what the Captain said. With a surprised look on his face, he joined Mwezi, Kane, and Blaze on the stage. He barely caught the Doctors comment and had to forcibly suppress a smile, he didn’t have time to give William the reigns “You really should have said no when the Captain promoted you K, the bridge ain’t the same without those smartasses comments” he said loud enough for the four of them to hear.
