Kanina turned to Bridie and smiled gently. “Our second officer is currently on the bridge.” It was an important piece of information. “As far as our plans, sir, we may wish for somewhere with less loose lips.” After all, didn’t people say loose lips sink ships? She’d like to avoid that.

Looking around Sideman found an empty space and said, ” Let us talk over here, counselor.”

Then he motioned to move over to that particular spot.

Michael Sideman, XO

Kanina nodded and moved over, keeping a mental ear out for if anyone was listening in. “Where would you like me to start? The beginning of my own involvement, or when the captain turned off life support?” She was after all, in the rare position of being able to report on things she hadn’t witnessed.
-Kanina Dran, CNS

“Counselor, give me the bottom line because we don’t have a lot of time” he responded.

Sideman, XO

She nodded. “Well, that’s the thing. We have plenty of time. The parasite is gone. It’s left the ship, but you can’t tell those other aliens that. Apparently, they’re bounty hunters and the parasite, a Kornerean, is trying to escape them. According to the Kornerean, the others are responsible for an NE’s death.” She realized her account was slightly disjointed, but hopefully intelligible enough. “Honestly it’s not really a parasite, it’s a symbiote. Like the trill.”
-Kanina Dran, CNS

“What the heck…are you sure and how do you know this? Are you telling me this is all a set up?” asked the confused Commander.

Lt. Commander Michael Sideman, XO

Kanina tapped the side of her head. “It’s very hard to lie to me, Commander. The symbiote either found a way to fool Betazoids, or it was telling the truth.”
-Kanina Dran, CNS

“Okay then....we will proceed like you are correct. In that case, we have invaders on the ship. We should proceed to lock it down. But we should do so quietly…without letting ‘our guests’ know that is what we are doing” responded the Commander.

Lt. Commander Michael Sideman, XO

Kanina nodded. “And thus, the conference room. Once we have them contained we can… question them, discreetly of course.” She enjoyed Starfleet. After all, on Betazed, Betazoids don’t lie, and they don’t plot, and they never use their abilities for the good of anyone. Not like this anyway.
-Kanina Dran, CNS

Seeing that Sideman did not have a better plan he responded,

“Okay, then let’s head to the conference room, via the bridge. I want to make sure that everything is okay up there without setting off any alarms.”

Then the commander turned and started heading out of Engineering.

“Come on counselor, let’s not keep people waiting” ordered the Commander.

Lt. Commander Michael Sideman, XO

Bridie nodded. “Shutting down the ship will be easy. We just say we are clearing areas, section by section, to be sure our ‘intruder alien, symbiote, whatever, doesn’t slip by us. I can circle out from here till the bridge is isolated behind you. I can use your comm badges to lock things down behind you as you go. Will that do?”

She didn’t like the idea of killers being on the ship. But then again, she wasn’t exactly sure what was going on at this point. Just what orders she needed to follow.

Kanina tilted her head and weighed the options. “It may be best to simply be covert about shutting everything down. Spread by word of mouth rather than through comms. If they truly are the bounty hunters the symbiote said they are, they have hunted an entire species nearly to extinction, and would not be concerned with doing the same to this ship.” She was being blunt, but sometimes that was necessary.

Bridie nodded and thought a moment. With a thought dawning in her eyes, she moved to the nearest console. “Scheduled maintenance. That’s always the backstop, right?” She was furiously typing. “I can take one of the other engineers and go station by station, deck by deck and reset the systems for maintenance.” She finished typing and smiled. “If they look, they will see a schedule of shut downs for today. It will take running a Level 2 Diagnostic to discover the dates are forged and this wasn’t scheduled weeks ago.” She smiled and nodded. “We’ll get this thing, get everyone off the ship that doesn’t belong here and get everyone back to who they are supposed to be.” She tapped a console query for Lt JG Bartlet’s whereabouts. Thankfully, he was in engineering. “BARTLET!” She cried over her shoulder then glanced at Kanina. “What are you gonna do? I need to know where you are so I can find you if something happens.”

Bartlet’s arrival in her vicinity prompted a quick rundown of the situation. He went to grab two portable diagnostic kits with a nod and a smile of understanding.
