Lukas didn’t like Sickbay visits. Not for routine stuff, not for anything. Unless it was work-related. He’d only had one boarding physical previously, as he’d only been on one other ship, but he had been aboard that ship some time, so it wasn’t as if he’d had no other routine check-ups in that time. As much as he hated routine check-ups, boarding physicals he saw as even worse, for some reason.

However, it was a necessary evil, and so, the junior Lieutenant found himself in the Sickbay in a timely manor, at exactly the time he’d said he’d be there. Uncomfortable or not, he valued timeliness and irrational fears weren’t on his list of acceptable reasons to be late. Lukas stood, patiently awaited the attention of one of the ship’s doctors.

A young Bolian Ensign walked past and then stopped when she saw the officer standing near the door. “Have you been helped?” she asked in a friendly manner.

“Not yet. I’m here for a boarding evaluation?” Lukas said to the Ensign politely.

After his response, she smiled and said “Of course. Follow me to bed nine, please.” She led him around the central axis of the med bay and to a biobed. Motioning for him to sit, she said “The Chief will be with you momentarily.” and she walked off.

A few minutes later, a figure walked past the bed and stopped. It was a human male, but it most certainly didn’t appear to be an officer. Wild, unkept hair fell across his face down to his chin, and that had a solid three days worth of stubble. The right side of his head was shaved to the scalp. The visible ear had holes from multiple piercings, although no jewelry was to be seen. But all of that paled in comparison to the tattoos. The man was tattooed almost everywhere, save his face. The skin of neck and throat was a myriad of color and imagery, as were the hands coming out of the white coat he wore. He looked … feral… was the only fitting description.

“What do you want?” he asked in a growl. It sounded like he was angry at the Science officer for something.

First impressions were quite important to Lukas. He had made sure he looked perfect and well kept when he reported, when he met the CSO, and when he came here to the Sickbay. And, well… all Lukas could do was raise an eyebrow when he saw the man he could only describe as disheveled and rough walking through the Sickbay in uniform.

Then, he realised that was the doctor coming to help him, and he was pretty sure his raised eyebrow might just float off his face. How on Earth… or, in Space, he supposed, had anyone let him get away with looking like that?

“I’m Lukas Kostas, the ship’s newest science officer. I’m here for a boarding eval,” Lukas said to him, his voice level despite the man’s grouchy, growling tone. He took note of the uniform he wore - definitely a Lieutenant. Regardless of what he thought of his appearance, Lukas would have to be sure not to show it.

“But of course you are…” the man said with a sarcastic tone. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out an older model medical tricorder and began running it over the Science officer. “Any changes since your last physical… injuries, illness, blah blah blah…” he said without looking at the man.

“No, nothing. I assume you’re the chief medical officer?” Lukas asked, trying to spark conversation as he watched the doctor scan him with a tricorder.

Without looking up, the man scowled even more and said “You know what they say about assuming…” and continued his scan.

A few moments later, he snapped the tricorder closed and said “Greek, huh? That’s a first.” and then he began making notes on a PaDD.

Lukas was silent until he blinked as the tricorder was snapped shut. He nodded to what the doctor said. “Don’t get many of us, huh?”

“None. That’ why I said ‘That’s a first.’” and Kane shot him a glance. “For a scientist you aren’t real quick on the uptake, are you?” and he turned and walked off. A moment later, the same nurse who met him when he first came in came over and glanced to make sure her boss was out of ear shot. “Don’t mind him. Kane is an… acquired… taste. But if you get hurt, you’ll find no one better to help. Just don’t expect too much in the way of ‘bedside manner’. ” and he she laughed softly.
