(snip, snip!)

“Alas, logic provides potential starting points,” she allowed, “but it is gravely ill-equipped for emotional matters. So, as redundant as this question has become, what do you make of this data? And where do you want to start?”

— T’Aria, XO

“It may be a simple issue of hierarchal diffusion. Including yourself, the senior staff comprises 0.05 percent of my completed evaluations.” Kanaina knew the revelation that one of the senior staff had no evaluation would not go unnoticed. “I will, of course, approach individuals that seem to be having difficulties, and those that don’t to allow for an apparently random patient base.”

“Understood,” T’Aria mulled over Kanina’s words with a slow nod, “and agreed.”

“On another note.. I was considering a dinner for the Senior Staff.” Her comment appeared terse and without provocation, but Kanina might sense the underlying quiver of turning thoughts. “Much has changed since I was a physician, including Chernov’s senior staff.” She tilted her head, her pale eyes meeting Kanina’s once more. “Reasonably, a meal could provide time for natural dialogue and camaraderie without the pressures of work and obligation.”

“If you’re comfortable,” T’Aria began, “I would appreciate if you were there, too.” She knew it wasn’t a direct method of hierarchal diffusion, which pressed against her Vulcan mind, but perhaps the space to build trust and let the conversation flow freely was a fundamental step in the process.

— T’Aria, XO

bump for when you return :)

OOC: Thank you so much!
IC:

Kanina paused, momentarily surprised by the invitation. “I…” A smile broke out and she ducked her head gratefully. “I would love to! That sounds like an excellent plan.” In fact… “It might be something to continue regularly, just to allow everyone to debrief in a less formal environment.” She thought she remembered something about codeswitching and its effect on Starship command that applied, she’d have to search for the article.

“Excellent,” T’Aria took in a soft breath and nodded, “I’ll forward you the detail as soon as they’re available.” She watched a smile unfold across Kanina’s lips, effectively relieving the tension that’d once permeated the air. T’Aria, in her detached way, seemed to return it. “A wonderful idea,” she then added, “if all goes well, perhaps we’ll make it a monthly dinner.”

T’Aria’s gaze drifted from the counsellor to the chronometer, where her lips parted in brief thought. “I’ve taken enough of your time,” she began, “thank you for this conversation. But, if you trust I’m suited for duty, I have less… pleasant tasks to attend to.”

— T’Aria, XO

Kanina smiled gently. “I believe I ought to thank you as well. You are beyond fit for duty, Commander. I look forward to working with you.” She was truly excited, her first ship and the XO was someone she seemed to work well with. It was, in some ways, more than she had hoped for.

Counselor’s Report:
Lt. Cmdr. T’Aria shows a remarkable willingness to learn that is too often absent in Senior Crew. She overcomes cultural differences with tenacity and approaches challenges with an open mind. She demonstrates many of the common traits in Vulcans, but her experience allows her to consider emotions as well as logic. She would be an excellent Captain for the Chernov, should the worst happen, and she has my full faith as an XO.
