15:12hrs, XO’s Quarters

Music saturated the air with dull, metallic notes. They crept over languid artefacts perched on conventional shelves and kissed the fringed ends of indolent tapestries. Tenderly, like a mother’s embrace, they tempered every enervated fibre until exhausted at the foot of a rubber mat. T’Aria relished the quiet filling her chest. It centred her, soothed her.

She inhaled, filling her lungs with the aroma of spiced incense. She grounded her hands, drifting from her stand to an arched position. Guided by breath and intention, T’Aria seemed to float through her movements. Soon, she held herself inverted, her torso parallel to the wall and legs hung over her head. She took in another breath. T’Aria closed her eyes, obeying only what she could hear, touch and smell. Her mind shook its chains to flee its logic-induced captivity. It tempered her awareness until she found herself lost in a sea of unhindered emotion. Swelling and receding like dying waves, it engrossed every fibre of her being until fatigued by total stillness. Total peace.

But the universe had other plans.

Beep! T’Aria body jerked, caught wholly off-guard by the sudden whistle. Pain shot up her arm and radiated out, leading her to very nearly plunge to the ground. She caught herself, sending another wave of pain through the limb, and sunk her teeth into her lip. “Yes?” She called, her voice resonating without the barriers she’d previously — temporarily — dismantled.

[O]Commander— the aCE cut themself short — are you all right?[O]

“Fine, Lieutenant.” T’Aria hissed, struggling to regain control of her emotions with the throbbing sensation in her wrist. She lowered her tone. “How can I help you?”

[O]I have an idea I’d like to run by you. When are you available?[O]

T’Aria glanced up from her wrist, which she’d been examining for signs of present injury. “Would you be amenable to meeting at 1700 this evening?”

[O]Yes, Commander. That should be just fine.[O]

“Very well,” T’Aria knit her eyebrows together when she met her wrist, “I will expect you in the mess hall.”

[O]Great! I’ll see you then. NLt. Almeida, out.[C]

T’Aria sighed and stole another glimpse at her wrist. It was noticeably bent, with blackish-green discolouration growing at its base. And it hurt like a— T’Aria halted the thought before it could infect her with a degree of humanity. Shaking her head, T’Aria rose to her feet and cradled the arm to her chest. It seemed she had a few errands to run before meeting the good Lieutenant.

15:31hrs, Sickbay

T’Aria slipped into sickbay with an impenetrable aura. Her robes were slightly creased, and her hair tousled, but her expression had retreated to its unfathomable stillness. Surveying the entrance, she made her way into the main reception area and approached the on-duty receptionist. “Excuse me?” She kept her voice low, “I believed I’ve fractured my distal radius. Is there a physician available to attend to it?”

— T’Aria, XO

Sitting in his office, Lieutenant Symar looked up at the sound of the XO’s voice. Saving the report he was making on the backlog of the previous CMO’s cases, he stood and seemed to glide into the main sickbay, “Commander,” he said, “It is agreeable to see you again.” Noting the slightly out of place bone in T’Aria’s wrist he added, “Take a seat on the biobed, Nurse, fetch the dermal regenerator.”

-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-

T’Aria gravitated to a distinctly Vulcan tone, her gaze shifting to meet Chernov’s CMO. “Agreed, Doctor,” she ducked her head in greeting, “although I expected it wouldn’t be under these cirumstances.” She followed his direction to the nearest biobed and settled at its foot. Gently, she held her wrist out to him. “How are you settling in?”

— T’Aria, XO/Patient

“I am not finding it difficult if that is what you mean Commander, though I will admit, being on board a battleship is a..,” Symar cocked an eyebrow, “Facinating experience.” Pulling up a device table to his right, Symar asked the nurse to switch the dermal regenerator to its osteogenic stimulation setting, though he was CMO, he still found it both important and logical to ensure that his young staff were being taught at all times.

-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-

“A valid assessment,” T’Aria yielded, “Chernov’s ambience is a stark contrast to similarly suited ships.” She lent a soft shake of her head to the memory of her embarkment. She’d been fresh from the Harbinger, a scoutship, equipped with holistic knowledge of medicine and no desire for a speciality. She was young and the Vulcan equivalent of naive, and the Chernov took full advantage of that. “She’s an acquired taste.”

T’Aria regarded the nurse, watching as they adjusted the regenerator’s settings with a look not of approval nor distaste, but respect. “Where did you serve prior to Chernov?” She asked Symar, shifting her gaze to leave the nurse to their duties without her scrutiny.

— T’Aria, XO

Symar placed the dermal regenerator back on the desk beside him and picked up his medical tricorder, “I briefly served as an Ensign aboard the Hong Kong, a small reconnaissance vesssel working out in the fringes of Federation space; however, prior to this, I had never left Vulcan.”
