T’Aria slipped into her quarters with an aura that whispered relief. She released a soft breath, allowing her gaze to waver against the sea of fabric that swayed at her approach. She lingered by her bed, taking a moment to consider the little world she’d created.

Tapestries hung from her walls, adorned by crimsons and golds that depicted tales long forgotten. Accenting her floors, rugs of a similar design lay pristine and unblemished by her idle trampling. Her shelves, once barren and bleak, hosted an array of living plants. Some accompanied artefacts; others held company with small statues vaguely resembling ancient gods. Candles and the occasional pillow dotted her quarters, each a varying shade of red or gold. Though ostensibly random, everything had a place selected by diligence and care. It was a piece of T’Aria manifested into a niche, and that notion gave her an idea.

Settling at her desk, T’Aria turned to the computer terminal and typed up a quick invitation.

{Rank and Name],

I understand we haven’t had the time to acquaint one another. Thus, it is my honour to invite you to an informal dinner in my quarters at 1830, this Saturday. Casual dress is welcome and appreciated. You are not required to bring and food or drink, but you may do so if desired. I look forward to seeing you all.

Live long and prosper,
T’Aria

Reading over the invitation, she furrowed her brow and sent it off. A week stood between them and the intended dinner, and T’Aria would do well to use it wisely. Starting with a trip to the galley for some much-needed menu advice.

— T’Aria, XO
OOC: Feel free to pop in with your character’s arrival. :D

Chris got the invitation and quickly deleted it. He didn’t want to get close to anyone again for fear of losing them. He then went back to work and after a bit of nagging in his own mind went to the trash bin of the computer and put the invitation back in primary. He decided to click the accept button. He knew he wasn’t going to change himself or his command structure. He will keep going on. That’s how you get over grief. Keep living.

He made his way to the XO’s quarters wearing blue jeans and his old medical Academy poloshirt. Pressing the chime he waited while holding an old bottle of Brandy.

The door hissed open to reveal a sinewy woman waiting calmly behind it. She stood adorned by casual robes tinged with varying shades of earthy greens. Her curly blonde hair cascaded down her shoulders in a loose, deceivingly relaxed fashion that couldn’t temper her tone.

“Captain,” T’Aria welcomed him with a soft frown, traces of sadness and masked compassion swimming through her eyes. “Thank you for coming,” she stepped aside and released a hand to gesture in, “please.. come in.”

— T’Aria

“Thank you T’Aria. It’s Chris tonight.” Smiling he gave her the Brandy. “This will make us all feel good. And thank you for inviting me. I needed this.”

“Anything you need, Cap— Chris.” T’Aria reached out to briefly touch his arm. Upon pulling back, she accepted the brandy and held at a short distance to inspect its integrity. “A fine choice,” she hummed and stepped aside to allow him room to pass.

Pocketing a PADD with yet another medical write up on it, Lieutenant Symar straightened his evening robe and stood in the doorway behind Captain Taggart. When he stepped inside, he gave a small bow and had to concentrate hard to stop his eyes from moving up and down the blythe figure of the XO. He knew he was beginning to show early signs of his next Pon Farr and needed to meditate at every possible moment to balance his needs, “Commander.... it is… highly agreeable to see you this evening.”

Her gaze drifted beyond Chris’ passing figure to the newcomer, Symar. Though his restraint wasn’t lost on her, T’Aria elected to hold her tongue. She made a note to mention it in confidence. “I concur,” she bent her head in a welcoming bow, “please, join us.”

“Welcome Doctor. Care for a shot of Brandy?” Chris was already getting the drinks going, but he v was not abusing the alcohol.

Chris Taggart

Symar nodded politely, “Though the offer is highly appreciated Captain, I’m afraid I must decline. I am performing a surgery tomorrow morning.” Reaching into the inside of his robe, he added, “Allow me to offer this in return, a bottle of Vulcan Spice Wine, a fine vintage from 2153.”

-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-

“It’s ok Doctor. I fully understand that. And that… that my friend is where it’s at.” He took the bottle and cradled it like a baby before he put it on the counter. “We’ll save that for later.” Turning around. “What kind of surgery you doing?”

Chris

OOC: pasting Travis’ post!

An eyebrow crept to her hairline, latent wonder infecting her gaze for a fleeting moment. Vulcan’s destruction obliterated much of the planet’s vintage supply, leaving a select few in circulation. They were hard to come by, many passed down through remaining clans, making them a luxury few could afford.

“Impressive, Doctor.” T’Aria yielded, escorting them deeper into the tapestry-adorned space. If either were to drift beyond the conversation, they might catch the mingling of herbs and spices permeating the air. Subtle, but earthy, it filled the quarters with an almost homey feeling. “How did you come by it?”

She rounded the corner into a small living area, where the couches had been replaced with cushions and a low-rise table. At its side, a large Orion man with a somewhat severe look about his face patiently stood. Chris might recognise him as Sega’a, a yeoman and steward aboard the ship. But he was relatively unknown to most others. Still, he’d come to the XO’s aid in helping prepare a dinner fit for their guests.

“Chris, Doctor.... crewman Sega’a,” T’Aria lent her hand to the man, “he helped cook and set up tonight’s meal. He will be joining us tonight.”

— T’Aria

“Captain,” his voice shattered any question of hostility with a sonorous boom, “and you must be Doctor Symar. My, what the records have to say about you! A pleasure, truly.” A grin unfolded across his lips, his eyes straying briefly to the bottles in their hands. “Please! Sit. Get comfortable.”

— Sega’a

“My. Sega’a. Thank you for helping with this.”

The next to enter the room was the tall lithe figure of the Chief Science Officer. He was wearing dark trousers and a dark blue shirt, only the top four gold buttons were visible. He held a case in his hands, he wasn’t as rigid as most were used to seeing him on duty. Before coming to the dinner he’d had an argument with himself about whether Will or William should be present and the former was chosen. He smiled at the Captain then gave both Vulcans a respectful nod. He walked inside the room and put the case down “I’ve been hoping for a chance to open this” His regular Scottish accent was replaced with a soft Texas one, an oddity most of the older crew was used to by this point “I got this from my old Xenobiology professor last summer in exchange for some… baubles I’d gathered during our first trip into Galdori space” He blinked and pointedly avoided looking at the Captain. He opened the case revealing a strangely designed clear glass bottle, it was almost Vulcan in aesthetic “Pratorean Romulan Ale” He said almost reverently “I did a chemical analysis and it’s almost two-hundred year old aged, I’ve been trying to figure out how to make it but it seems some of the ingredients aren’t available in the Federation” He stroked the bottle before carefully raising it up.

CSO, 2O

After William came in Chris smiled back then almost fell to the floor when he saw the bottle! His hand covering his mouth in astonishment. “My, my, my. One better than the next. One might say your professor as very unique contacts to say the least.”

“But enough talking about. Let’s get some drink and food flowing as well....” Stopping himself, he turned around. ....”Forgive me T’Aria. This is your party. We will wait for your command.” Smiling at her.

Chris

“Well met, Mr. Seg’a. I came by the Spice Wine, due to the fact that I keep a case in my quarters. It was a particular vintage my family had access to through a family friend.”

-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-
