Kanina checked her PADD, looking for her next appointment. She blinked at the name, checked the clock, and looked back. Captain Chris Taggart - 1300 Her last scheduled appointment of the day. Pushing the chair back, she stood from her desk to make herself a cup of tea while she waited.

Chris stood outside the Counselors door trying to talk himself out of seeing her but he knew he couldn’t be the Captain the crew needed or deserved and he couldn’t move on. He pressed the chime to her office and waited.

The door opened, revealing the dark-eyed counselor. “Captain. Come on in, would you like something to drink?” Kanina knew it wasn’t always easy for people to seek help, but she appreciated that Taggart realized counseling could be beneficial. She waved him towards the comfortable couches that made up the main part of her office, smiling at the plants she had finally gotten from the botany labs.

OOC: I’m sorry. I thought I replied to this already.

IC: Nodding Chris walked over to the couches and sat down. He did look around to see how she decorated the place but only briefly. “This is hard for me to say Counselor, so I’m going to come right out and say it. I’m here because I’m angry allot to the crew. I’ve been bleeding on others that didn’t cut me off that v makes sense to you. The reason I’m angry is that I lost my best friend Kane in a tragic accident and then I lost Mwezi in a similar manner. Mwezi was also more than a friend. He was my protector as well as my friend. I need help dealing with these loses or I’m afraid I’m going to have to step-down from being Captain so I do not endanger the crew or the ship.

OOC: All good!
“Anger is a common reaction to grief,” Kanina offered. “Particularly for authority figures.” She sat down across from Taggart, meeting his eyes firmly. “Grieving is not an orderly process, and not all movement is forward, but I am here to help you work through it. You’ve already recognized how you are affecting the people around you, and that’s often the hardest part of returning to normal life.”

“Well this isn’t the first time I suffered a major loss on this ship. My wife was killed on our honeymoon while I was the CMO here right before I was promoted to XO. And it was rather easy realizing I was hurting people because of my anger because I was told every five minutes by my XO and almost every single Department Head. The Vulcans aren’t very good at concealing distain you know.” He said laughing for the first time in who knows how long.

Kanina paused, thinking briefly about which exercise from her arsenal would help the most. “I’d like you to think of one thing you’d tell each of them, were they sitting here with us. You don’t have to tell me what it is, this is for you.”

Chris thought briefly and the spoke. “Tell whom? The people I angered or the grieve that I’ve lost? And please while I’m in here, call me Chris. I don’t want titles and the like to get in the way or more importantly, my way of healing. Speak freely and admonish me if need so. I’m a patient, not the Captain.”

“Chris,” She acquiesced with a nod. “The people you’ve lost. It doesn’t have to be quick, you can take your time.” She knew full well that it could take time to decide what you wished people had known. Kanina herself kept nearly 7 pages of messages to the dead, adding to it every time she thought of something new.
