After Chris got off the comm he went to his ready room to prepare for Lovejoy to join him. This will not be ca pleasant conversation for her, nor for him that matter. He never did relish disciplining personnel but he hopes it will be one that she can can learn from. Besides, it doesn’t have to be a bad conversation if she plays her cards right.

She then comes to the bridge and presses the button to the ready room to enter and awaiting him to invite her into his ready room. She is a little nervous cause it’s something that she wasn’t expecting especially getting yelled at and having a bad conversation.

OOC: This will be me purely role playing as the Captain in a leadership role. What will transpire is him talking to you. If it gets to the point that you feel offended or hurt, then let me know.

IC: “Come!” Came a loud booming voice. When she entered, she would see the Captain not by his desk but by the conference table next to a big, clear tank that has what is left of his arm and leg in it. There was also a perfectly cut off hand in the tank now. They are in a liquid solution that will preserve them. Unfortunately he did not look happy or pleased. He stood there waiting for her.

Captain Chris Taggart CO

“You asked to see me captain?” As she stood at attention and not letting go. She was nervous about what’s going on. She knows that he’s pissed and is gonna yell at her for the mistake she has done. But really it wasn’t her mistake. The ensign mentioned that he couldn’t do anything about it.

Lt. Lovejoy

He stared at her for a moment with his one good piercing blue eye. “At ease Lieutenant. I’m going to make this short and simple. Are you a leader? Do you want to be a Department Head?” He then started walking back and forth before stopping and eyeing her again. “Because to me like you don’t. I and the whole bridge crew just got done hearing you say that you can’t handle one Ensign. We all effectively heard you say that you’re unfit to be a Department Head and unfit for your rank. We all just heard you say because that one little, tiny Ensign couldn’t, wouldn’t or didn’t, do as you say, that we all have to die. We all heard you say that you are incompetent at your job.”

He started pacing again before stopping and looking dead into her eye again. “Well I for one heard those things whether you said them or not because that’s what you are implying when you make statements like that at your rank and level. We are at war with the Romulans right now and how am I supposed to trust you with the ships warp core of something happens let alone the entire Engineering Department?”

He took a few deep breaths and ran his fingers through his jet black hair and then began to speak in a calm matter that she was used to. “Please have a seat Sara and please listen to me.” He said softly. “When it comes to Engineering, you’re the boss. You’re the DH of 500 personnel. You need to learn to not only be a better leader, but a more engaging one at that. I hope you know the difference between being a Boss and being a Leader. So I’m going to give you some tips and pointers real fast.”

He pointed to the tank with the body parts in it. “Those are my body parts, minus the hand. That belongs to a very close friend of mine. But that is just one of a billion outcomes of you fail to act and fail to lead. Sometimes you fail Sara, like I did, but I rather have my officers fail at something as long as they learn from it. That Ensign is just one cog in the machine that you run. If you’re having trouble with him, talk to your other Department Heads about it or the XO. We all have been there and can help.”

“I know that you have what it takes and that is why I hired you and you should know that you have what it takes or you wouldn’t have passed the DH school and came to me. Believe in yourself as much as we all believe in you. You need to learn to delegate and you need to know when and how to put your foot down. What works for one being, might not work for another. You need to be fluid and you need to learn to not be their friend. You’re there for a reason. You will not be able to please everyone.”

“You will need to address this matter with your officer that made you say what you did. You have other personnel in programming that can assist. (NE’s and I can role play one for you if you wish.) You also sat in that room with that Ensign the entire time. Why? You have a whole Department to run. I know you were in there because I looked at the computer to see who were all in that room when I got to my office. So unless you were learning a new skill or had to babysit the Ensign, then don’t do that again. I hope what I have just told you wasn’t too harsh but we have little time considering where we are in this galaxy right now. So now you may speak and speak freely. I want to hear it all, even if you need to cuss me out, say it.” He got up and poured some water in a couple glasses and then brought one over to her. “This might help.” Then he sat down and took a couple sips before sitting the glass down to hear what she had to say in rebuttal.

Captain Chris Taggart CO

“Sir with all due respect, I do not cuss my commanding officer out. But you’re right I was basically babysitting the ensign. And I know I shouldn’t have. If needed I can ask one of my other officers to do the rest of the modifications and let you know how that goes. I know I am more then capable to be a DH and I am still willing to do this for you I’ll talk to one of the NE’s and I promise I’ll push my people to do their job sir.” She said to the captain thinking to herself that it was best for her to do the job herself or have an NE do it.

Lt. Lovejoy

Chris closed his eyes and shook his head slowly. “Lieutenant Lovejoy. You have heard nothing that I just said. You don’t need to babysit anybody. And given what I personally know of Ensign Blaze, you will not find anyone that can program better than him. If tell you the reason but that’s classified, even to you.”

“You can’t just sit here and tell me that you’re basically going to push your troops harder after what I’ve just told you about being a leader.” He let out a long sigh and stood up and looked down at her and said flatly. “You’re a boss not a leader Lieutenant. You expect your troops to do everything and then take the credit yourself. Pathetic. You’re excuses are also pathetic. I will remove you from your position if you don’t learn to learn and if you don’t shape up.”

He stared pacing again then stopped. “Look around you Lieutenant and look hard. We are on a Battlecruiser and are in the Nuetral Zone where we can be attacked at any moment. If you don’t want to be here or if you can’t handle being here and need to on a plush science or medical vessel, then let me know now and I mean now Lieutenant! You want me to relieve you of dirty and confine you to your quarters?”

“I hired you for a reason! I read your file and thought that this is someone that I could not only entrust the Chernov to, but the lives of everyone in it. I guess I chose wrong. If you don’t have anything to say then leave and go to your quarters or stay and convince me that you’re worthy to not only lead your Department but to stay on this ship.” His gaze was strong and he was looking dead at her.

Captain Chris Taggart CO

“Yes sir understood. I am willing to stay on board. Sir.” She said as she knew that she should do better then that.
