Will turned a corner and saw a group of officers conversing. He had finally won the internal argument that a place like Risa was not a place where one wore their uniform at all times so he wore some clothes from home, some wrangler jeans and a simple brown farming shirt. He held a physical book under his arm as he walked around the corner. He gave the captain a slow nod and continued his walk around the alien terrain.

A little over an hour elapsed before T’Aria emerged from the hotel lobby, nearly unrecognisable. She shed her regulation golds for a loose-fitting dress crafted from fabrics dyed crimson and bronze. To match, she unbraided her hair and wove it into a traditional style that she secured with delicate, mineral-encrusted pins (…given by her grandmother for a bonding she ultimately challenged). She tied it together with kohl and eyeshadow of muted red. For many, her attire was little more than an expression of the wearer. For T’Aria… it was something new.

T’Aria wavered at the pathway separating the city from the beach. Try something new, she heard Isaac’s nagging voice in her head, put yourself out there. Tugging at her robes, T’Aria scanned the beach spotting Blaze and several crew amid a sea of unfamilair faces. Then, from the corner of her eye, she noticed a small drink shack serving up something that smelled (at least from her distance of several meters) fruity? T’Aria leaned into her curiosity and stepped onto the sand, briefly relishing its warmth. The closer she got the shack, the more the pungent odor of the ocean filled her senses, reminidng her of the Voroth Sea. But the smell faded as approached and eventually settled on one of the shack’s many palm-woven chairs.

Kastarak walked up from the sea, thirsty. For some reason, unfathomable to himself, he had ingested some of the water, and it was very salty. He really needed a drink. He went directly to the drink shack where a woman in elegant hair was standing, trying to decide what she wanted to drink.

Who was she?

Kastarak walked closer, and recognized it was his commander T’Aria – and quarantine bunkmate. They certainly had shared something quite different and remarkable then. Perhaps it shouldn’t surprise him then that she too had had a makeover, just like he. Still, Kastarak couldn’t help but feel a bit surprised.

He purged the emotion, breathed, controlled his heart beat and blood pressure.

He walked up to her.

“Peace and long live,” he said to her when reaching her, standing there near naked. He hadn’t realized he wasn’t wearing anything but his swimming trunks until now, but it was too late. He just had to, like the humans would say, play it cool.

“Peace and long…” T’Aria tore her pale gaze from the chalkboard menu, glimpsing only his outline before realisation washed over her in a cold shiver. Doctor Kastarak. She had not anticipated seeing him so soon after the… heart-to-heart they shared in quarantine. Even in the weeks that passed, she still grappled with the long-term effects of their exposure, particularly those of the emotional sort. Her struggle, however, could not diminish the spark of delight that touched her eyes when she saw him, new hairstyle and all.

“Kastarak,” she contained and dismissed her surprise, “I see you revised your hairstyle — it suits you.” T’Aria untangled her poised fingers into a gesture at an open barstool. “Would you care to join me for a refreshment?”

He turned to the drink provider, it seemed not to be sentient, but a humanoid-looking robot. Its skin was beautiful, it looked very real to Kastarak. He wanted to study its qualities better.

“A cup of tea – Earth tea if you have – please,” he said.

“Coming right up!”

IC: Out of the salon walked Lucian Vyctor, an NE Security officer, looking like a new man. He had decided to take his superior officer’s advice and just have fun. And there was nothing more fun than a brand new look. Gone was the shoulder-length black hair often kept in a ponytail. Now, Lucian’s short, vibrant pink hair truly brought out his blue eyes. It would certainly make him stand out from the crowd, something he very much liked to do.

After returning to his quarters to change out of his uniform, Lucian decided to follow a lot of the crew’s lead and go to the beach. Fortunately, it didn’t take long for him to find a chair that happened to be next to Lieutenant Commander T’Aria and Ensign Kastarak. Interspecies Protocol was one of Lucian’s electives at Starfleet Academy, so he knew all about Vulcan customs. He extended the traditional Vulcan salute with a smile. “Peace and long life. Is it alright if I join you?” he asked.

NE Lucian Vyctor, Security Officer

The man coming up to Kastarak and T’Aria had a familiar face, but everything else was not familiar. After a while, Kastarak recognized him from the Chernov. A security officer, young, recently joined. Kastarak had never interacted with him before, but Kastarak had taken the pains to learn the faces of all crewmembers in case of a medical emergency. One would never know when such skill would come in handy. That it was useful now was a testament to that.

“Not at all, Mr Vyktor, and peace and long live to you as well,” replied Kastarak. “I see that, you, too have used this shoreleave of ours to do something different with our hair. I was not as bold as you, as you can see. Would you like a drink – I’ve just ordered myself a cup of tea.”

He turned to T’Aria, “And for you, commander? Would you like a cup, too?”

– Kastarak

T’Aria could not recall when she last heard ‘Peace and Long Life’ spoken with cordial grace. It became a sensitive greeting, reserved for diplomatic situations and otherwise avoided out of peculiar respect for Vulcans that she would never understand. So, to hear it uttered without tension or duality appeased T’Aria.

“Welcome,” T’Aria greeted Vyktor with a raised hand, then turned to Kastarak. “Yes, thank you. And, we are not on duty, so there is no need for formalities. Please, call me T’Aria.”

Lucian thought for a moment. Tea wasn’t really what he wanted at the moment. He wasn’t much of a drinker, either, but he supposed one drink couldn’t hurt. He was on vacation after all, and his roommate said he just had to try a Risian Mai Tai. ‘Oh, what the heck? I’ll give it a shot,’ he thought. Turning back to the drink provider, he placed in his order. “My roommate said the Mai Tais on Risa are pretty great. So I guess I’ll take one of those,” he said. “You got it!” said the bartender.

“I understand it is customary for folks to engage ‘fun’ activities during shore leave,” T’Aria nodded to Vyktor and Kastarak, “do either of you have plans for your time off?”
