It was the next morning and Chris was up early cleaning the mess the Major made last night and cooking breakfast for a bunch of people. “Good thing I stocked up before.” He muttered while cooking some sausage, grits, eggs of all serving types, i.e. scrambled, over easy etc.., bacon, pancakes, French toast, coffee, tea, toast. He put butter and apricot, apple, pear and blackberry jam out as well on the big dining room table.

Looking around he wiped his forehead with his towel. “I’m sure glad I bought this. The crew better get used to it since it will be my home when I retire.....if I live that long. Hmm. I better update my will to give someone this boat for when I pass away. Who??????” Rubbing his chin he smiled. “I better go do that right now before I forget.” Leaving the dining room he went into a office and called his lawyer and told him to update his Will to include the 180 foot yacht to Umbri. “That’s done. Time to go cook some more.” While he raised up and went back to the kitchen humming.

Umbri woke up the next morning not feeling very rested. They didn’t sleep much the night before because of everything that had happened. What would this mission entail? Would they even make it out alive? These were only two questions going through Umbri’s head as they walked upstairs, following the smell of food and coffee. “Morning, Captain. Food smells good. And that coffee is calling my name,” they said.

Lieutenant (j.g.) Umbri Zayne, Weapons Officer

“Morning all! Help yourself to whatever you want. You still look tired though.” As he poured Umbri a cup of coffee. “And we’re on vacation and soon to be on the other side of the law, so just call me Chris, ok.” He smiled and went back to turn the oven off when he noticed someone outside. “What in Tarnation?”

Outside the quay, Kastarak stood, looking at the ship anchored there. It had taken him a good forty minutes to find the captain’s yacht, but here it was. He was early – he had given himself an hour to find the ship, knowing the harbour was difficult to navigate, with ships looking similar to one another.

There was a gangway leading onto the ship, but Kastarak was unsure whether to go there. He was not sure he was even supposed to be here, but he had received the order, even if he thought he might have received it in error.

Like Shravyk, his roommate in Star Fleet Academy, would say, “better safe than sorry”.

Suddenly, he saw a figure moving on upper deck. He tried to make himself seen by whoever it was, signifying his presence, and hoping he would receive an invitation to come onboard in line with the message or a direction that he ought to go elsewhere.

– Ensign Kastarak (doctor)

Chris finally recognized the Kastarak and waved him up to come in. Turning around to Umbri, “Kastarak is here.”

Chris

Kastarak hurried onboard and saw the giant breakfast table ready for them all.

“Good morning, captain, lieutenant. Thank you for the invitation.”

He was not sure why he had been invited, but this was the first time the captain had asked him to a social gathering. It seemed like an honour, however, was there perhaps a more professional reason for this meeting?

– Ensign Kastarak

“You’re most welcomed Kastarak. Please call me Chris from now on and not by rank. Any rank. I’ll tell you everything once everyone arrives ok. For now, just eat up, make this place your home and get comfortable.”

He moved back into the kitchen because it dawned on him that he actually had officers that are herbivores, so he cooked up and prepared a range of vegetables to go with his previous choices. Bringing the skillet over to Kastarak and scraping the asparagus, tomatoes, potatoes, cheese, and bell peppers onto his plate before placing the rest on a big dish on the table.

“By the way, you’re not in trouble or anything like that. No one is. So please, rest easy and be at peace here. Ok?”

Walking back to the stove to cook some more he started hiking again and dancing a little while he cooked.

Chris

Blaze drove his small sailboat right next to the yacht and called out “ ahoy permission to board captain” he had a bag with some High quality Texas T-bone steaks he has been saving he called out again “ I brought some more food”
