It was the next morning and Chris was up early cleaning the mess the Major made last night and cooking breakfast for a bunch of people. “Good thing I stocked up before.” He muttered while cooking some sausage, grits, eggs of all serving types, i.e. scrambled, over easy etc.., bacon, pancakes, French toast, coffee, tea, toast. He put butter and apricot, apple, pear and blackberry jam out as well on the big dining room table.

Looking around he wiped his forehead with his towel. “I’m sure glad I bought this. The crew better get used to it since it will be my home when I retire.....if I live that long. Hmm. I better update my will to give someone this boat for when I pass away. Who??????” Rubbing his chin he smiled. “I better go do that right now before I forget.” Leaving the dining room he went into a office and called his lawyer and told him to update his Will to include the 180 foot yacht to Umbri. “That’s done. Time to go cook some more.” While he raised up and went back to the kitchen humming.

Captain Chris Taggart CO

Umbri woke up the next morning not feeling very rested. They didn’t sleep much the night before because of everything that had happened. What would this mission entail? Would they even make it out alive? These were only two questions going through Umbri’s head as they walked upstairs, following the smell of food and coffee. “Morning, Captain. Food smells good. And that coffee is calling my name,” they said.

Lieutenant (j.g.) Umbri Zayne, Weapons Officer

“Morning all! Help yourself to whatever you want. You still look tired though.” As he poured Umbri a cup of coffee. “And we’re on vacation and soon to be on the other side of the law, so just call me Chris, ok.” He smiled and went back to turn the oven off when he noticed someone outside. “What in Tarnation?”

Outside the quay, Kastarak stood, looking at the ship anchored there. It had taken him a good forty minutes to find the captain’s yacht, but here it was. He was early – he had given himself an hour to find the ship, knowing the harbour was difficult to navigate, with ships looking similar to one another.

There was a gangway leading onto the ship, but Kastarak was unsure whether to go there. He was not sure he was even supposed to be here, but he had received the order, even if he thought he might have received it in error.

Like Shravyk, his roommate in Star Fleet Academy, would say, “better safe than sorry”.

Suddenly, he saw a figure moving on upper deck. He tried to make himself seen by whoever it was, signifying his presence, and hoping he would receive an invitation to come onboard in line with the message or a direction that he ought to go elsewhere.

– Ensign Kastarak (doctor)

Chris finally recognized the Kastarak and waved him up to come in. Turning around to Umbri, “Kastarak is here.”

Chris

Kastarak hurried onboard and saw the giant breakfast table ready for them all.

“Good morning, captain, lieutenant. Thank you for the invitation.”

He was not sure why he had been invited, but this was the first time the captain had asked him to a social gathering. It seemed like an honour, however, was there perhaps a more professional reason for this meeting?

– Ensign Kastarak

“You’re most welcomed Kastarak. Please call me Chris from now on and not by rank. Any rank. I’ll tell you everything once everyone arrives ok. For now, just eat up, make this place your home and get comfortable.”

“Yes, Chris. Thank you,” replied Kastarak and took a seat next to Umbri Zayne, his former roommate.

“Good morning Umbri. It is agreeable to see you this morning. How have your last few days been?”

He moved back into the kitchen because it dawned on him that he actually had officers that are herbivores, so he cooked up and prepared a range of vegetables to go with his previous choices. Bringing the skillet over to Kastarak and scraping the asparagus, tomatoes, potatoes, cheese, and bell peppers onto his plate before placing the rest on a big dish on the table.

He looked at the array of vegetables and cheese scraped up to his plate. It reminded him of Earth. That there was a potato on the plate made his mouth salivate. Potatoes were after all his favourite Earth food.

He had never eaten cheese, and normally, he would avoid eating it, but somehow he felt it was inappropriate to decline it. Thus he picked up his fork, stabbed a piece of cheese with it, and took it to his mouth.

The piece of cheese had a foul smell, and an odd savoury flavour, salty with some sweetness to it, but with a pugnant after taste. It was not entirely disagreeable, but he could tell that many people might find it an acquired taste. It was also very rich, Kastarak noticed. If one would eat just small amounts of cheese every day, one would still reach one’s caloric necessity, and Kastarak immediately understood why nomads across Earth’s history and geography would make cheese. At the same time, it seemed odd to use another creature’s milk to make food. Of course, Vulcans did so before the time of logic, but they considered since then eating any animal product, directly (such as meat) or indirectly (using animal products) as barbaric and back-ridden, even if there was no explicit ban of it. He’d done his duty as a guest by eating a piece of the cheese, and he experienced peace in that he would not be asked to eat any of the meaty dishes carved up on the table.

After the piece of cheese, the freshly fried asparagus was up for stabbing. He took it to his mouth and enjoyed the freshness that only vegetables can provide.

“By the way, you’re not in trouble or anything like that. No one is. So please, rest easy and be at peace here. Ok?”

“Thank you, Chris,” he said after finishing chewing the asparagus’s head. He then moved on to a piece of potato.

Walking back to the stove to cook some more he started humming again and dancing a little while he cooked.

Chris

Blaze drove his small sailboat right next to the yacht and called out “ ahoy permission to board captain” he had a bag with some High quality Texas T-bone steaks he has been saving he called out again “ I brought some more food”
Snip

Umbri greeted all the crew who came in with a slight wave, finally starting to wake up a little thanks to the coffee. They were admittedly a little confused when they saw Kastarak, as to their memory, the call went out to only the senior officers. His presence wasn’t unwelcome by any means, though. The two of them were on good terms, being former roommates and all. Their attention then turned to Lieutenant (j.g.) Alexander Blaze, carrying some T-bone steaks as well as a bow. They’d only met once in passing, but he seemed like an interesting character.

And then, there was Lieutenant Commander William B. Grey, the Chief Science Officer, standing at attention. He seemed to be observing the other people in the room very closely. ‘Kind of reminds me of Sherlock Holmes,’ they thought. Umbri knew him less than they knew Blaze, but hopefully, they’d get an opportunity to rectify that as they were honestly a little intrigued by him.

– Ensign Kastarak (back on duty)

Blaze was in Jean shorts and I white shirt with a Hawaiian shirt over it his sun glasses were nice also. “Sorry for getting here late the contest was longer than I thought it will be and it is hard to get meat passed some Klingons” he joked a bit he also Carried a bag with his computer gear and a few do hickeys that he made himself.

T’Aria combed through the vessels anchored at the Suraya Bay Harbour for the one named Nave. Though she navigated the labyrinth with considerable ease, she struggled to keep her gaze from bouncing between bobbing ships like a frazzled pinball. She rubbed the back of her neck and pressed on.

Happening upon a fork in the dock, she delayed and considered both paths. To the right were sailboats of meagre, industrial stature that spoke tales of long nights, harvesting and exploring. She doubted they received much business in Risa’s current economic climate. To the left were yachts of all dimensions and luxury, beckoning those who enjoy the sea as a pastime to climb aboard. T’Aria considered Taggart a dapper man fond of extravagance and pleasure, so it was not difficult to choose a path. Turning, she entered the next stage of her search.

T’Aria wandered for half an hour before the SS Nave emerged from behind an ampler craft. She hesitated briefly before stepping onto the passageway and venturing into the ship. Sensing chatter emanating from down the corridor, she followed it until she emerged into a dining area. “Good morning,” she greeted and moved to pour herself a cup of tea in anticipation of the others.

— T’Aria, XO

As Lovejoy just got to the captain’s Yacht, she said “Sorry for the tardiness. I didn’t know that we were meeting here today. So what did I miss?” She said to everyone. As she looked a little confused as all get out.

Chief Engineer Lovejoy.

“Nothing yet, ma’am,” said Kastarak as Lovejoy entered. “We have not yet started”, and signalled to her that an empty seat was available next to him.

– Dr/Cns/Ens Kastarak

“Thank you. I’m guessing waiting for me?” She asked as she sat down to Kastarak.

Chief Engineer Lovejoy

Chris came over. “Yes and some others. Everything will be made clear shortly. Make yourselves comfortable.” He said to everyone. “I’ll be back in one hour and then I’ll tell you all why you’re here. Ok.”

OOC: Just missing the CMO so I’m moving the story forward and he’s with us.

IC: Chris went up to the control room and started the yacht. After pulling away from the dock and out of the channel he plotted a course to the middle of no where in the ocean so no one would hear.

After getting to that spot he anchored and shut the ship off and went back to them all.
“Greetings all. As you can see there isn’t much of you all here and a handful of NE’s. So I’ll get to the point. The reason why you are all here is because I can trust you all without exception. What I’m going to tell you is very classified. If you do not want part of it then go out onto the upper deck while the rest of us talk. At the end of the conversation if you feel you don’t want part of it, then that is perfectly fine. No one will hold it against you.”

“We have been talked to rescue an Admirals daughter that has been abducted by the Klingons. We have to go to Qo’noS to do it and do it without the aid of the Chernov. This is not sanctioned so we will be mercenaries and if we get caught Everything you’ve worked for your whole life will be gone in a flash. There will be no backup from the Federation or anyone. Any questions so far?” He raised a coffee cup and drank some while meeting everyones gaze.

Chris

“Would it be logical to assume that the Admiral’s daughter has been subjected to torture for information Captain?” Symar was still keeping up the pretense of being fully Vulcan, other than with Commander T’Aria. Keeping to logic and binary thought patterns could be.... tedious at times, but his safety within the Federation, as well as the safety of the Chernov‘s crew was paramount.

-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-

Kastarak was quiet. He wanted to wait for the more senior officers to speak before he started.

He thought of the situation. Was it an order from Star Fleet? Was it a legal mission? Would they face legal sanctions in the Federation? Surely this was not mutiny, it could not be. Perhaps there was a diplomatic avenue possible.

But without the aid of the Chernov? How would they get to the Klingon homeworld then?

Kastarak had studied Klingon as a second alien language since a child (Federation Standard was his first alien language). Federation standard was obviously a more dominant language for him, he has used it daily for the past four years, but his Klingon was not too bad. He could converse in Klingon, without the aid of a universal translator, read it somewhat fluently (especially instructive texts, poetry and metaphors were more difficult). Perhaps those skills would come in handy if they go to Qo’noS, especially if it’s an undercover mission without the aid of the Chernov.

Kastarak had many questions, but he decided to stay quiet. He was sure that in time all questions would be answered.

When his CMO spoke, Symar, Kastarak sensed frustration and conflict in his colleague. Was Symar really emotionally adequate for this misison? Were the others?

The mission sounded off – unofficial yet official. No Starfleet support but still an order.

Kastarak was confused. This would be a psychologically draining mission. Perhaps he would have to evaluate the fitness of crewmembers to serve on this mission, now in his new position as ship counsellor.

He waited for more information before speaking up.

– Ensign Kastarak (dr/cns)

Blaze spoke in very fluent Klingon “don’t worry Captain I will always have your back. To Glory and Honor” when he was done he watch the room he had a Klingon bow instructor growing up.
