(Snip, snip!)

“Morning sir!” he said with a small smile as he shook her hand. He calmly walked in and took a seat. “I am here to introduce myself to you and give you a copy of my orders.” As he placed it on her desk. and went quiet for a moment as to give her a chance to read that over.

Lt Jg Pawl Batario - Jo Engineer

T’Aria clenched her jaw as Batario grasped her hand. In many cultures, she knew, handshakes were a common and innocuous greeting. T’Aria respected the symbolism and leaned into it to dissociate his simple gesture from the discomfort afforded to her by Vulcan tradition. Before the emotion touched her face, she gripped his hand and gave it a firm shake.

“I appreciate your initiative,” she snatched the PaDD from her desk and skimmed over their contents, “but I am less concerned with your orders than I am with you. Tell me about yourself while I prepare a pot.”

“So, Lieutenant…” T’Aria set the device down and meandered over to the synthesiser for a pot of near-boiling water. “Do you prefer coffee or tea?”

If Pawl’s gaze were to wander, he might notice the assortment of teas and select varieties of coffee hung from a wooden rack beside the replicator. There were two cups beside them. The first was a deep, rusted red with engravings that turned the clay into a desert sunset. Beside it hung a ceramic cup painted like where the waves met the shore — a brilliant gradient of foam folding into sand.

OOC: I don’t have a set list of what teas and coffees she has, so feel free to select one from Earth or species known to the Federation in 2271. :)

Pawl felt the change in her he would remember not to touch her again. As he listened to her calmly. “I prefer tea, sir! I am open to any flavor. Sir!” Pawl said quickly to her. not making her to wait. As he saw the nice cups that hung there along with an assortment of teas and coffee. “What would you like to know sir!” Pawl asked her sincerely.
He really did not want to volunteer anything then he had to. as he sat there calmly for more questions.

T’Aria appreciated Pawl’s eagerness, though it unnerved her some to hear ‘sir’ shouted thrice in less than a minute. Perhaps it was an echo of his training of Betazed or simply his way of showing respect to another officer. T’Aria did not speculate, instead softening her impassive gaze.

“There is no need to call me ‘sir’, Lieutenant. We are not in a setting that demands such formalities.” She traced a finger through the teas until she landed on an ornate, gold-tinted box that contained a loose tea that Pawl might recognise as Jestral. “Please, address me as T’Aria or Commander, if that is more comfortable for you.”

T’Aria wavered thoughtfully when Pawl asked what she wanted to know. The question warned her that he might be reserved about his past, or wish to divulge only what was necessary. She respected that. While she carried the pot and tea leaves to the table, she pondered what to ask him.

“What do you feel is important to know to understand you as a person?” T’Aria asked as she meandered over to the wall and retrieved the mugs, some honey and plant milk (which was easier for the synthesizer to construct to near perfection). Upon her return, she extended the crimson mug to Pawl and settled into the chair beside him. T’Aria then nodded to let him know he was free to prepare his tea however he wished.

Pawl knew he hit a cord with the commander. “I am sorry sir I mean commander. I am just trying to follow Starfleet and federation rules of conduct to make sure I show proper respect.” He explained the error of his ways. “You can call me pawl. just like the earth name paul as he spelled the Earth name to show the difference but it was the same pronunciation.” Pawl said with a small smile as he took some honey and added it to his tea along with one cube of sugar and added milk for creaminess. Pawl was feeling a bit apprehensive at the question. He wished they were simpler answers to answer now. “Well, I am a Betazoid very similar to humans in most respects. I do my best to be open and honest a betazoid trait.” Pawl commented casually. We dislike liars and closed-minded beings it gives me uneasy feelings. trying to hide something.” he added. “As for some personal things I am single never been married or set into an arranged marriage. Thank the four deities, I would be afraid of who my mother would have chosen for me. ” Pawl said calmly. My sexuality is gay and most betazoids are more open about such things compared to other races like humans, vulcans, for example. there more personal and is usually a need-to-know basis.” Pawl added then finished. as he took a good sip of the tea. “again thank you for the tea it was really good.”
