“No it wouldn’t be logical. I hope that I’ve at least instilled in you all to no assume anything. That is what gets you killed or others killed. Plan for things and plan for things that you think will or might have happened, but never assume. Given how the Klingons operate, it might be a good assumption, but please don’t ever think that.”

Had Kastarak’s chief medical officer taken leave of his logical senses? What was up with Symar? He was acting more and more strange lately, almost like a Vulcan struggling with the early stages of pon farr, but trying to hide it? Surely it wasn’t Symar’s time yet? Kastarak was confused, but something was definitely off with Symar. Kastarak wondered if he would get the chance to discuss it with him.

Suddenly, Kastarak found himself remembering a school play he watched in San Francisco. His supervisor, Dr Valkeapää, had a daughter in junior high school whose class set up a play around the events of the official human–Vulcan first contact. The daughter had invited Kastarak to join for the performance, and Kastarak had understood it was dishonourable of an invitee to decline an invitation in Earth custom, and had joined Dr Valkeapää in watching the performance. There was a skilled human actor, some 14 years old or so, who played the Vulcan captain of the T’Plana-Hath. The “captain” acted very much Vulcan-y, but there was something off, as if someone with surface emotions trying to pretend they are not kept deep, under control. A human cosplaying a Vulcan. That it was this memory that Symar’s behaviour triggered was unsettling.

But Symar was not human, so that could not be it. He was Vulcan. But something was off. It concerned Kastarak. He was unsure how to bring it up, when to bring it up, and with whom to do so.

Kastarak took note of the emotions of concern, unsettledness, and confusion, and decided to medidtate on them and hopefully find a solution to this conundrum. Then he purged the emotions, and returned to full concentration in the meeting.

Kastarak was quiet. He wanted to wait for the more senior officers to speak before he started.

He thought of the situation. Was it an order from Star Fleet? Was it a legal mission? Would they face legal sanctions in the Federation? Surely this was not mutiny, it could not be. Perhaps there was a diplomatic avenue possible.

But without the aid of the Chernov? How would they get to the Klingon homeworld then?

Kastarak had studied Klingon as a second alien language since a child (Federation Standard was his first alien language). Federation standard was obviously a more dominant language for him, he has used it daily for the past four years, but his Klingon was not too bad. He could converse in Klingon, without the aid of a universal translator, read it somewhat fluently (especially instructive texts, poetry and metaphors were more difficult). Perhaps those skills would come in handy if they go to Qo’noS, especially if it’s an undercover mission without the aid of the Chernov.

Kastarak had many questions, but he decided to stay quiet. He was sure that in time all questions would be answered.

When his CMO spoke, Symar, Kastarak sensed frustration and conflict in his colleague. Was Symar really emotionally adequate for this misison? Were the others?

The mission sounded off – unofficial yet official. No Starfleet support but still an order.

Kastarak was confused. This would be a psychologically draining mission. Perhaps he would have to evaluate the fitness of crewmembers to serve on this mission, now in his new position as ship counsellor.

He waited for more information before speaking up.

– Ensign Kastarak (dr/cns)

Blaze spoke in very fluent Klingon “don’t worry Captain I will always have your back. To Glory and Honor” when he was done he watch the room he had a Klingon bow instructor growing up.

Lt. Alexander Blaze (Programmer)

Kastarak looked at Blaze as he spoke fluent Klingon. It was a relief of some sort that someone else could speak Klingon here, and Blaze seemed to speak it better than he.

– Ensign Kastarak (dr/cns)

Umbri, having been there when Section 31 first gave them the mission, was a lot calmer than the others while the Captain was talking. They had made their peace with the situation and were prepared to do whatever it took.

Lucian, on the other hand, was not so calm. His thoughts were going a million miles per second. He was pacing and was too busy stuttering to form a coherent sentence. Umbri noticed this and walked up to the NE Security Officer, pulling him down to the seat beside them. “Deep breaths, Ensign. You won’t be alone in this. I’ll be right there with you every step of the way,” they said. Lucian let out a sigh of relief. “Thanks, Lieutenant,” he said.

Lieutenant (j.g.) Umbri Zayne, Weapons Officer/NE Lucian Vyctor, Security Officer

T’Aria observed the crew for signs of distress beyond the innate unease of an unsanctioned search-and-rescue from a hostile power, occasionally glancing at Kastarak. His services would be imperative as this mission was not of their usual calibre. And the Klingons were not their usual adversaries.

T’Aria recalled her residency at Starfleet Medical when talk of all-out war troubled the fifth floor. She sensed the terror and rage that emanated from her associates, powerless against what they perceived as an unstoppable force. It was especially harmful to her classmates whose careers might soon revolve around bloodshed, fear and what her supervisor aptly deemed ‘just keep them alive’ medicine. Their dread haunted them for years after the incident, and she suspected it would persist until Federation-Klingon relations broke from existing tension.

The Klingons. Though little was known about the people, Federation and Vulcan encounters suggested they embraced a fierce, honour-driven philosophy founded on concepts of victory and shame. T’Aria knew little of the location of their homeworld, Qo’noS, only that it was a day’s journey from Sol. They would need to acquire data on the region to ascertain any tactical advantage. Too, T’Aria suspected they would need to make allies, lest they wanted to be totally alone. Of course, these were thoughts for later discussions, so T’Aria kept quiet to allow Taggart more time to explain.

Chris held up his hand to quiet Everyone. “This mission is on behalf of Section 31. I am a member and have been for some time. I can’t complete this mission by myself, so I asked if I can bring others on as long as they knew risk. They said fine. So here you all are. The people that I trust the most.”

“It will be difficult but we can steal a ship. I’ve done it three times already so I’m getting pretty good at it. Another thing is no more ranks. Everyone will be called by their names or fake names from now on. Like I said before, if you want out, then that’s fine. Just keep you mouth shut. Any other questions?”

Chris

At this point, Kastarak raised his hand. He was unsure of the proper protocol in this unique situation, but found that humans often responded to raised hands. Perhaps it was an Earth school custom.

He then spoke for the first time since the meeting began, “Sir, if I may? You told us that we had to go to Qo’noS without the aid of the Chernov. How do you plan for us to go there?”

– Ensign Kastarak (Med/Cns)

Seeing Kastarak raise his hand and nodded. Chris gave a wicked grin. “Like I said before. We’ll steal a ship. I’m very good at it and with Blaze’s help, we can even get a decent one. Does that answer your question good sir?” Chris was wondering if anyone was actually hearing him or still in shock at his request.

Chris

William hadn’t really reacted when the Captain started explaining the mission, he’d simply stood there, however, when the Captain mentioned stealing a ship he sighed, walked to the side and poured himself a cup of tea, and took a long slow sip. “Well” he said after a moment of enjoying his cup “I was in San Fransisco when the USS Vengeance crashed there and I’m fairly certain that was due to Section 31 shenanigans, now we’ve been recruited by said group to galavant to the homeworld of the most militant aggressive species in the quadrant that we have had barely any contact with since the Archer Enterprise visited over a century ago without the battlecruiser we serve on” He spoke calmly, listing it up as if this was nothing out of the ordinary “Excellent, do we have any on-ground intelligence on where this Admiral’s daughter is being held and for what purpose?” He asked in a very dry manner.

CSO, 2O

“Ah. Yes. Will. Your sarcasm is not wasted on me. But I assure you that Kane and I were experts in stealing ships. This will be the second time without him though and yes, we know about where she is held and yes they are very militant over there. I will get us a really good ship and although it will not be the Chernov, it will be able to fight. In fact. There is one very specific that is here now and will have all repairs completed to it by the end of day.” As if on cue Blaze spoke up.

After hearing his name he pulled his lab top and started on Creating a back door to the shipyard here on Risa. The back door was very easy to make due to the Lex Security on the planet. After a few minutes he quietly said “ I am in the security protocols are very lax and very easy to navigate through” after a few minutes he looked at the captain “ any type of ship you’re looking for” he asked

Lt. Alexander Blaze

“Yes Blaze. In a matter of fact, look up Renewal Prop, in the database. That ship everyone, is one of the Romulan Birds of Prey that we captured. That will be the one that we will steal. With ease, I might add.” He smiled and took a couple more sips of his coffee before continuing. “Any other questions?”
