As Sara was a little confused by the quarters arrangement Kastarak was also confused. Sara thought that it would be best if she brought to the captain and the XO. While being confused about it, she was thinking that she would have another female officer as her roommate. But Kastarak is a good roommate too. Although, it is not objectively noticed about anything, she feels okay about it.

Chris got the message and went to the room and pressed the chime to let her know someone was outside.

As Kastarak arrived, he saw the captain standing outside the door.

“Captain,” he said, as he acknowledge him when arriving by the door.

– Ensign Kastarak (physician / counsellor)

Chris nodded back. “Kastarak. How are you doing?”

Chris

Despite being accustomed to polite phrases like that since leaving Vulcan so many years ago, a question like ‘how are you’ always set him off. For half a millisecond, Kastarak’s mind went blank. Upon ‘regaining consciousness’, he knew that an adequate answer would be ‘fine, thank you, and you?’, but it didn’t feel genuine, it wasn’t genuine, and it was illogical to go on with mindless pleasantries. At the same time, Kastarak had no desire to disclose any kind of ailment or annoyance – not at this point. There was certainly no time to discuss any matters of health. And what if Kastarak asked the captain back – what would that imply? Did he then ask the captain as a colleague, or as a doctor? There would be no time whatsoever to discuss the captain’s health in the corridor behind a room, when a meeting was about to start at any minute. What could he then say?

“I am in good health, sir, thank you,” he simply said. “Are you well, sir?” he asked back, betting on that the captain would do the human thing and simply ignore the question and answer it with a rehearsed phrase in the lines of ‘yes, thank you’. How do humans ever put up with this kind of charade? And why?

– Ensign Kastarak (physician/counsellor)

Chris wondered why it took Kastarak awhile to answer them even he did Chris nodded. “I am actually good. A slight headache but good nonetheless. I’m glad you’re in good health. So do you know why I was summoned here?”
