It was a very, very good feeling being onboard the USS Chernov again. The previous mission was very intense and Chris very much wished for the firepower of the mighty Chernov during a couple of those incursions. After compiling a bunch of food and drinks from various worlds and the high dollar kind at that, he sent off an invitation to the crew that helped him during the last mission to come and eat with him at his table, The Captains Table, in the Wardroom. It was a Naval tradition and one that is supposed to give the people coming, a feeling of great accomplishments. It is the very table that the Captain and the Executive Officer dine at. The invitation reads as follows:

Dear [Insert your Name here] (Your name would actually go in there):

Captain Christopher Mortimer Taggart cordially invites you to join him and the Executive Officer T’Aria, at their table tonight. There will be all sorts of fresh food and drinks from around the galaxy to accommodate the feelings of a home cooked meal for our far off friends. Dress is Formal wear and you will be required to wear your Dress Whites with your medals. The Captain hopes to see you there.

Yours,
Captain Chris Taggart, CO
USS Chernov

After reading it over Chris thoguht it was good enough to send and with Sega’a’s help, he would pull it off along with his own personal chef. Pressing the button to send out he closed the PaDD and went to his closet to fetch his Dress Whites and to make sure that they were right and proper for the meal.

After getting dressed and making sure that everything was in it’s place and his medals were polished and in proper order, giver that he and the others at the table acquired some new ones during their last mission, he stepped out of his quarters and made his way to the Wardroom. Stepping he could smell all of the foods and it made his mouth water just smelling them. He was not allowed to help in the kitchen. When he offered both his personal chef and Sega’a both said “NO!” at the same time like they rehearsed it. He was fine with that. Knowing that he would just get in the way or mess something up. He sat there, patiently waiting for the others to arrive.

Kastarak apparently was the first guest to arrive. While he did not have any medals to wear, this had become his first occasion of wearing his mess uniform, and he knew the honour bestowed upon him – a mere junior officer of lowest rank – to be invited to this kind of functioning.

He entered the wardroom, looking around, seeing no one but the captain.

“Captain,” he said, as in attention. “You have honoured me with your invitation.”

– Ensign Kastarak

“Where do you want the....” the chef inspected the dish, braised meat on a bed of par-charred vegetables and a thick, teal-tinged sauce whose subtle sweetness reminded them of uttaberries, “uttaberry-braised pork?”

“One moment,” Sega’a affixed edible flowers in vibrant shades of orange and yellow to redspice tea cake that he frosted with a vegan “buttercream” and candied orange garnish. He knew not everyone could withstand such a sugary dish, so he included miniature unfrosted cakes for his Vulcan friends’ delight. Well, tolerance, he supposed. Laying the last flower near the middle, he took a careful step back and turned to the chef, momentarily considering the dish. “Hmmm… let’s place that by the jumbo molluscs and smoked redbat.”

“You got it, boss!” They smiled and vanished from the galley in a blur of yellow fabric and wild curls. Sega’a liked them. They had spunk.

In the time alloted by Taggart, Sega’a carefully crafted a menu bursting with flavour and influence from every crewmemeber. Andorian. Betazoid. Human. Orion. Tellarite. Vulcan. He knew how isolating space could be. Even amid the chaos and good times shared with crewmates, it was easy to feel alone. Tonight, he wanted to provide a taste of ‘home’ while sharing the beauty of their comrades’ cultures and cuisine. He hadn’t much to work with and even less time, but he hoped he honoured everyone with his selections.

He started with appetizers, choosing a medley of Tellarite vegetables, which he fried and garnished with chives-like herbs and sweet chili sauce. He roasted some tomatillos, poblanos, jalapeños, and white onion from their recent supply run and incorporated some Orion spices for a twist on salsa verde, which he served with a torilla chips. Finally, he provided plomeek soup for those who appreciated more subtle flavours.

Sega’a hummed as he recalled the dishes on tonight’s menu. The main entre had been particularly troublesome. In addition to the braised pork, smoked redbat and jumbo molluscs, he provided a homemade chickpea tofu and tempeh. He also made an Andorian cabbage stew with essentially the “kitchen sink” of ingredients he had on hand. These ranged from squash and sweet onion to tuber root and beans. It reminded him, vaguely, of the “Three Sister’s Stew” Andreas prepared for him on their first anniversary. He intentionally added a frybread in his honor. Finally, there was a mushroom ragu for anyone looking for a warm, filling dish.

Sega’a lifted the redspice teacake he prepared for dessert, inspected it for the slightest smudge, then followed Taggart’s personal chef to the Wardroom. Despite his afternoon of work, his formal dress remained a pristine white thanks to his tattered apron and favourite cooking sweater. He entered just after Kastarak, who he greeted with an involuntarily wide smile, and nodded to Taggart. He didn’t have time to socialize just yet (there was still so much to be done), but he wanted his friends to know he saw them… and that he would come say “hello” soon.

Swiftly, as if he’d done this a thousand times before, he set the cake at center table and made his rounds to adjust plates and dishes until they fit his unique specifications.

OOC: These are just the dishes I could come up with on a whim, feel free to add you own!!
