Chris came out of his ready room and stood looking at the new and improved bridge of the Might Chernov. Smiling and nodding in satisfaction he went to the captains chair and sat down slowly into. “Ahh. A new chair with more padding and buttons. Feels good.” He said to no one in particular and just kind of slumped in it and relaxed with his eyes closed. Opening them in a flash he got an idea. Getting a proper seat and posture he looked at the helm. “Helm. I need you to put in a course for 300.25-528.333987. We are going to go exploring.”

Meanwhile, Kastarak, too, was exploring the new bridge. It was rare he would ever visit the bridge, but today was an exception. He was taking inventory and stock of the new and improved first-aid kits located around the bridge. It was imperative that he knew exactly what was in them and where they were located.

As he heard the captain’s order, he was curious. Exploring? What for? It was a strange way for the captain to announce a way to go. Normally, there would be systems or other marks of interests that would be the indication of a course. Not this time. A set of directions, as if code, in a way he did not understand. That said, it had been years since he learnt basic helm courses at Star Fleet Academy, and the DH course he did a year ago of course only covered medical matters… What would this mean.

“Sir,” he reported to the captain, “Stock and inventory of the first aid kits are now complete. They are fully operational now.”

Chris got up from the chair. “That’s well and good and thank you for checking, but have a seat in this chair. It’s amazing. The one in your office should be cushier as well.” Chris got an idea and it showed. “Would you like to take us out Doctor? Be the first to take the new and improved Chernov out for her inaugural test run? And yes, I am conceding it to you. Do not worry. I do this all of the time.”

Captain Chris Taggart, CO

Q was at his station on the bridge when the captain entered. He stood at attention until the captain took his seat. As he spoke, Q turned his attention back to the display in front of him. As Taggart gave his orders, Q smiled to himself as he looked ahead to the view screen to see where the captain had decided to “explore.”
Q watched with intrigue as Taggert handed over the center chair to Kastarak, wondering how the Vulcan would respond.

Kastarak was not sure if the captain was joking or not, but this was not the time for jokes, Kastarak calculated. The do not worry in the end convinced him.

“Yes, sir.” he said, acknowledging the order, and took the seat. It was a good ergonomically designed chair. The captain hadn’t lied. He took a moment to take it in.

He had a console in front of him. He saw that the coordinates for departure was close to Klingon space. Perhaps it was there that Batario and Blaze had found that cubic artefact he had heard about.

“All stations, ready for departure?” he asked. “Prepare for undocking.”

– Ensign Kastarak (acting commanding officer?)
