Chris waved goodbye to them in the transporter room. He wished that he could be down there now but T’Aria would not allow it. Kept citing regs but Chris knew it was because he had a habit of danger finding him. Arriving back on the Bridge and waiting for their communication he sat down.

Once the team materialized they would find themselves in a grass clearing next to a thick forest. Up ahead they could make out smoke from a few chimneys about a half mile away if they would use the binoculars and scanners. In front of them about 50 feet is a wooden fence about three feet high that boarded a dirt road. There were wheel ruts and horseshoe prints all over it. Another scan revealed that there was a town about two miles to the West.

Dawson had always been rather cautious when going on away missions, especially to potentially hostile territory. He had his Type Two Phaser strapped to his belt on his right, along with a backup Type One strapped to his calf and a KaBar knife on his right. He had tapped Lt. Hawkins to join him on the away mission. He hadn’t had the time to really get to know the Lieutenant, but her record seemed to speak for itself.

When they all materialized on the planet, the rustic and rural scenery was not what Dawson had expected. He turned to Lt. Hawkins and raised an eyebrow. “What do you all make of this?” he asked to the group.

Kastarak had his med-kit with him, ready for any casualties. One would never know what would happen. The planet seemed like a regular M-class planet, very green and lush. Temperature was comfortable, similar to Earth’s California, he thought, but with more humidity in the air. Northern California, then, he thought for himself, recalling his visits to the redwood forests. The trees here were smaller though, less impressive. He looked around, noticing the animal shoe prints, the smoke from the background, the dirt road. It all looked like industry had not arrived here yet.

“I believe there might be ground to believe that we’re on the planet of a pre-warp society, or even a pre-industrial society. Prime directive should apply, and precautions should follow,” he said.

William, who had started by immediately removing his scanners from his belt holster and starting a general scan. He bit off a sarcastic reply to the counsellor, sometimes voicing the obvious was necessary in case anyone missed it for whatever reason “There’s a settlement 2.3 Kilometres west of here.” He looked at the XO “I recommend we get off the road, looks like this is a fairly well-travelled area.” He said pointing to the deep marks in the ground. He knew horse tracks when he saw them, or at least whatever beast of burden they used here.

Dawson nodded at the Science officer. “I agree. Especially if we’re dealing with a pre-industrial culture.” Dawson was happy he had opted for the KaBar knife, as he would much rather use that then depend on that more primitive-looking device than something so telling as a phaser. “Those trees there should offer some proper cover,” Dawson said gesturing to the forest.

Lt. Q Dawson CWO

“Agreed,” Kastarak said to the two previous speakers, and began moving toward the trees, scanning the environment as he moved forward. Would the scans show anything?

– Lt (jg) Kastarak, physician/counsellor

The scans do pick up a horse pulling an open wagon filled with apples in wooden baskets. There is no driver. The horse is yellowish/orange in color with a golden blonde mane and tail and both were braided very well. The horse was very clean and it had a cowboy hat on it’s head. On it’s flanks were three red apples clumped together.

Kastarak found the readings illogical.

“Commander,” – he turned to the chief science officer. “Do you pick up similar readings? It appears that there are Earth animals roaming here, and Earth produce. I read Equus equus – horse – and the fruit of Malus domestica – apple tree. I know too little about Earth to make an assessment if that is indeed the case.”

Where had they ended up? Kastarak was confused. Everything seemed illogical and out of place.

Could it all be a holographic projection? If so, why, and by whom?

– Kastarak.

OOC: So sorry folks! Time getting away from me again, am I ok to just jump in here?

-Kieron-

OOC: Of Course!

Symar arched an eyebrow, the Vulcan exterior still going strong. “Could it be possible that we have ended up on some sort of alternative version of Earth?”

-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-

“I think you’re right.” Whispered a voice right next to and I mean right next Symar. Then in a high pitched and fun tone. “Don’t be alarmed. My name is Pinkie Pie and I am here to welcome you all to Equestria and specifically to Ponyville!” She started jumping up and down the pink pony with darker bubblegum/cotton candy pink mane and tail said. “Come follow me to the town where I have arranged a party for you all!” She started bouncing up and down as she made her way to the road. “Oh! Hey Apple Jack! Our friends are here now and OH! Are those the apples and pies and fritters and cakes for the party?!!!!!!! YAY!!!”

Apple Jack laughed. “Yes Pinkie it is.” Looking over at the crew of the Chernov. “Well don’t be shy partners! Come say hello and if you want, ya can sit on the wagon while I pull ya’ll ta town!”

“Can I ride in the wagon as well?! Please AJ, Oh Pretty please?” Smiling, “Of course you can sugar cube. I’m plenty strong enough fer this task!” Apple Jack said.

Kastarak was utterly confused. Nothing made sense. No native life of Earth, save for humans (and some extinct hominids and cetaceans*) had complex language. The language that these equines spoke was comprehensible enough for the crew’s universal translators to understand them. Despite the curiosity of the words used, they made sense – there had to be a context to them.

“Logic would suggest it is some simulation, and thus the prime directive would not apply.” he stated. “Perhaps we should accept the invitation.”

Kastarak turned to the colourful horses:

“Good day, Apple Jack and Pinkie Pie. My name is Kastarak. I am honoured by your invitation. I will speak with my colleagues and discuss your invitation.”

– Lt jg Kastarak (physician / counsellor)

OOC:

  • I assume in this timeline, the events leading to Star Trek IV haven’t happened, meaning whales are all extinct… though in Treklore cetaceans are sentient species. I assume it’s knowledge that they are [in trek universe] – given archeaological records.

OOC: You are correct.

Dawson stood there stunned. The horse just talked. The pink and yellow horses just talked. And they seemed to come out of nowhere. Dawson cleared his throat and began to assess the situation. Though the horses were in fact talking and so appeared sentient, they didn’t seem too far advanced to prove significant threat. Dawson did not like the idea that they had been expected and was cautious of what their “hosts” would have prepared for them. However, since they were expected, it seems the prime directive wouldn’t be an issue. Maybe. This was certainly a sticky situation. Dawson turned to Umbri and whispered, “Be ready for anything.” And thought to himself how he needed to get his security officers trained in battle language soon as he can. He didn’t like having to communicate in the open like this.
