Kane, Tac / Med

Mwezi’s ear flicked a little, but he did not respond otherwise to Kane’s new nickname for him. He stepped over to the table of hors d’oeuvres and picked up a mini grilled cheese sandwich and munched on it quietly.

Captain Chris Taggart CO

Stovik wandered over to the food table with the others and scanned it see if there were eatables on it that he could eat. Fortunately humans were quite fond of raw vegetables at these type of events so he easily found a variety of them with some bread like pastries that were filled with cheese and other vegetable material. He filled a plate and picked up a glass of water.

Commander Stovik

Mwezi, sec

Bump

Ensign Jacobs had been drinking blood wine since they had arrived at the party, This was a special day and he had never tried the stuff before! Soon he was walking over to Mwezi, his speech was horribly slurred and Jacobs was stumbling about. “Well you son of a targ… how did you convince someone that you should be promoted” Jacobs belched loudly “Hell Lieutenant” (Hickup) “Junior Grade ain’t nothing,” (Hickup) “Ive made J.G. four times and Lieutenant TWICE”.... the officer who would not be described as young took another drink of the beverage. Thrusting the bottle toward’s Mwezi “HeRe HaS aw DrInK” as Jacobs waited for Mwezi to take the bottle he looked towards the windows and noticed an officer holding a bottle out just like him, and he appeared to be staring at Jacobs! “wHaT dooo, YoUz LoOkIn aT!”

GM

Mwezi quietly put his massive hand over that of Ensign Jacobs and gently pulled the bottle from his hand. He placed the bottle off to the side. “Ensign Jacobs, I believe you need to rest,” he spoke, his voice deep. Yellow eyes met those of the human man.

Stovik had filled his plate and was standing near the tables while eating when his attention was caught by the drunken voice of the Ensign. He frowned as his gaze traveled the lounge until they found the man talking to Mwezi. Stovik turned and set his plate down on the edge of his table before wiping his mouth as he began to make his way over to the pair.

Commander Stovik

Chris had no time for this crap. He already hurt the guest of honor feelings. “Security. Exit this man back to his quarters. “

Mwezi gently led Jacobs to another security officer, talking to him calmly all the way until the man was out of the room. “As the captain said, NE Richardson. Back to his quarters. NE T’pak, please give Richardson a hand,” he added, glancing towards a Vulcan female.

Stovik stopped in surprise at the Captain’s swift actions, blinked, and then watched him climb up to the stage.

Once that was done. Chris got up on the stage. “Everyone. Can I have your attention please. Today we are going to celebrate a couple of promotions. First I wasn’t too welcome up on stage with me Commander Stovik whom will help me in presenting. Then I would like for Ensign Mwezi to come up. “

Eyebrow raising in curiosity, Stovik calmly walked forward and climbed up to stage. He turned then and faced the crew, about to clasp his hands in front of him he started as the Captain thrust a box at him. He accepted the box and handed it to Taggart when he signaled for it.

Mwezi quietly stepped up to the stage and stood a little stiffly next to the captain. Nearly seven feet tall, the lupine officer certainly towered over Chris and Stovik. His ears twitched, and he listened.

Once he was up Chris took a box from Stovik and presented it to Mwezi. “Ensign Mwezi it is with great pride that I give you this box and the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. And name you Chief Weapons Officer!”

Captain Chris Taggart CO

Stovik nodded towards Mwezi, “Congratulations, Lieutenant.”

Commander Stovik

Mwezi nodded, taking the box and holding it for a moment before slowly opening it up on the stage. He genuinely wasn’t sure what to expect.

Mwezi, CoS

The box contained what is new rank was from his home world. Chris smiled. “I found what it looked like in the books you gave me and had Engineering make you one. You can wear that one as well. I’m truly glad to have you with us friend. “

Mwezi stared quietly at the small golden earring, not blinking. He closed the box and held it, glancing at the floor for a few moments. Chris truly hadn’t understood what he and Miv had meant when they said the promotion could not be done by off-worlders. He handed the box back to Chris with a pained expression on his face. “If you had truly read the books and listened to me earlier in the meeting with Controller Miv, you would know that I cannot accept this from you,” he spoke softly, then stepped off the stage and ‘vanished’ into the crowd. As much as a seven foot wolfman can vanish.

Chris frowned. “I got it wrong again. My apologies and I’ll stop. ” Chris took the box back and put it in his pocket.

Kane watched the exchange and shook his head, the wild hair falling all over. As Mwezi moved through the crowd, Kane put his hand on his arm. He looked up at the wolf-man, straight in his eyes. In a subdued voice he said “You know, the man is trying. You might wanna cut him some slack. At least he’s trying to incorporate some of your customs. Last I checked, you haven’t done the same for any of us. Either be a part of the crew or don’t. But enough with the holier than thou attitude. All of us are far from home, not just you, Warren.” and then he walked past, dismissing the new Chief Weapons officer with a wave of his hand.

O’Dell watched the advancement while standing at attention and feeling happy for the new promoted officer. As the head of all the enlisted, he felt good for anyone that could get promoted.

O’Dell

Once that was done Chris called Lt. Grey up to the stage.

“Lt Grey. You have served us with distinction and trust and as such you are promoted to the rank of Lt. Commander. Congratulations!”

As customary by human standards, T’Aria gently clapped for the newly promoted Lt. Commander, finding his position was well deserved.

“Lt. JG T’Aria, Givens and Kane please come up to the stage. “

Kane groaned, but slowly made his way up to the stage.

“I am pleased to announce that you all are hereby promoted to the rank of full Lieutenant! Congrats and well deserved!”

Captain Chris Taggart CO

If T’Aria was surprised, she masked it well behind a trained expression. Turning to the Captain, she bowed her head in gratitude. “Thank you, Captain.”

Kane looked at Taggart and said “Great. More meetings.”

O’Dell was in his full dress uniform and they were different than the officers. He saw a few other lower ranking enlisted members and felt proud to be representing the upper ranks. Maybe some day he would be promoted to Warrant Officer 3…who knew…he had been enlisted for so long it almost seemed taboo to even think about such a thing. For now, he would be happy just being the Chief of the Boat.

O’Dell

“Congratulations all.” Stovik said as he bowed in respect to each one as they accepted their new rank pins.

Out of reverence for the older Vulcan, T’Aria returned his bow. “Commander,” She said, the simplicity of her words speaking volumes her voice couldn’t reach.

Kane simply nodded at Stovik, probably one of the more polite responses he possessed.

Stepping back, T’Aria nodded to her fellow Lieutenants, the closest they might recieve to a ‘congratulations’ until the crowd had dispersed.

Dr. T’Aria
Physician

O’Dell walked up and said, “Doctor, can the Chief of the Boat buy you a drink?”

O’Dell

“Chief O’Dell,” T’Aria returned, “I am certain you could.”

Following a brief pause, she gestured to the bar. Vulcans were spared the effects of alcohol, many choosing not to consume, but T’Aria figured the social interaction could do some good.

“I trust you are well this evening?” Small talk was not a talent of hers, but the endeavour was half the battle.

Dr. T’Aria
Phycisian

Kane made his way to the bar as well. A single gesture and two glasses of bourbon appeared. Downing one, he picked up the other and turned his back to the bar. “I hate meetings.” he mumbled.

Kane, Tac / Med

Stovik moved up beside Kane.”They are a necessary evil.” He said as he ordered an Evian water. He too turned and faced the lounge area and stood in companionable silence with the other officer as they watched the milling of the crew.

Commander Stovik

“Folks I grew up with said the same thing about the Syndicate.” Kane responded flatly. “I bet they end doing the same thing. Using up people’s time and spitting them out as speny shells of their former selves.” It was obvious Kane’s feelings on meetings ran deep.

Mwezi made his way over to Kane, standing on the opposite side of the officer as Stovik. “I apologize for my behavior, Lt. Kane. And I will apologize to Taggart when he has a moment. I simply wished to explain to you. I was already somewhat… shall we say, flustered, from the confusion of getting here - I was told to meet in the captain’s mess for dinner with Taggart. Then I was surprised to find out that there was an entire party gathered around. And our earrings are… they are more than just stripes on a shirt. There is deep cultural and spiritual significance with these rings,” he reached up to lightly touch the two earrings near the base of his ear. “I have studied old earth religion… it is akin to a person of non-religious alignment attempting to perform communion or baptize an infant in the name of the church… I admit that I did overreact, and I regret that. It was an unpleasant shock.”

Mwezi, CoS

Chris heard the speech while he was walking over to the bar. He stood out of sight until Mwezi was done talking. “No need to apologize Mwezi. It is I that needs to. I was only trying to make you feel like one of us since you’re so far from home. I meant no disrespect. Please forgive me.?”

Captain Chris Taggart CO

Kane shook his head, his hair swishing back and forth across his face from under the hat Taggart had given him and then he took a long drink from his glass. “Huh-uh.” he said, but kept his voice low… at least low for Kane. “Enough. I have had enough of this from both of you. You.” and he pointed at Mwezi. “You need to chill a bit. Yes, your religion and spirituality are important to you, we get it. And no, we don’t understand it at all. But the Skipper is trying to understand in order to make you -” and he jabbed the finger into the massive chest of the Weapons Officer ” - more comfortable so far from your people. So take the effort as it’s intended and stop judging folks because they aren’t part of your religious stuff and just thank them for at least trying.” and he whipped his head at Taggart. “And you. Your the damn Captain now. Stop chasing people down and apologizing all the damn time. You have a ship to run. Your job ain’t to make everybody happy. It’s to get us all home after the s&%^ hits the fan. So focus.” and with that he downed the last of the bourbon and slammed the glass on the bar. Nodding at Stovik, he turned to walk away, pausing long enough to say “Congrats, Warren. Don’t screw it up. Same to you, Taggart.” and he walked off.

Kane, Tac / Med

Stovik blinked in surprise at Kane’s outburst but one side of his mouth was definitely twitching as if he was trying not to smile. He returned Kane’s nod gravely as the other man walked off.
“Well, I believe we have been told.” He said dryly looking toward Taggart with a raised eyebrow.
