Lt. Kirshara came into sickbay; even for a Vulcan, he looked worried. In his hands was an earth looking dog. How he got it onboard is another subject altogether but, at this very moment, the dog was very sick. She was a St. Bernard and stood pretty tall, it took a lot of strength for Kirshara to carry her into sickbay. Giving away to his emotions, just for a minute, he exclaimed, “I need help, please!”

Kirshara

Tauren approached first, tricorder in hand already opened. “Fascinating,” he allowed, as he focused the scans on the animal first. “Where did you find this canine, Lieutenant?” he asked, a few moments later, as the data started to roll across his screen, before motioning with an arm. “Biobed number two is available for a more detailed readout.”

Kirshara looked up the Doctor, “She was a gift and I could not leave her behind; she has been my friend. When I got in from duty she had threw up all over the deck and I was laying in her own bio. I just knew this was bad.” Carrying the dog over to the biobed Kirshara could not gain his logic back. He continued, “I am drawn to this animal in ways I cannot understand. Please, you must do something..”

Kirshara

Tauren raised an eyebrow briefly, but as he understood it there was no regulation against keeping pets. The biobed immediately revealed that the dog had suffered some significant dehydration, most likely the result of having vomited. “I will need to give this patient intravenous fluids first,” he concluded aloud, before setting up to do precisely that. It didn’t take long at all for him to attach the bag, and insert the feed line into a vein on one of the canine’s legs.

“It is most likely that your canine is suffering from some form of food poisoning or an intestinal infection. Most mammals respond to either of those stimuli by vomiting. A starship environment is generally quite sterile, however.” He frowned ever so slightly, looking at the readings. “The fluids will help, within minutes, but they won’t solve the underlying issue.” He began to scan the dog’s belly for any signs of infection, or foreign objects inside, and then on a hunch checked the dog’s womb to see if it could be related to a possible pregancy.

Kirshara looked at the Doctor and reponded, “Thank you doctor. I have been feeding her dog supplment numnber 9 most days and she has never had any type of reaction like this before. It is just weird.”

Looking back over as his Dog, he continued, “My little friend, it is only logical that you get well, I am not sure how I would continue without you.”

Kirshara

Tauren nodded to himself. “I cannot precisely identify the pathogen, but your canine has elevated leukocytes, indicating an infection. Computer, consult veterinary database, calculate appropriate dose of broad spectrum antibiotics for a canine of this weight. Display on primary console, and load hypospray.”

While the computer worked, he looked to Kirshara with concern. “Lieutenant, I trust you are aware of the normal lifespan of such an animal. I am confident she will recover from this illness, but I would not care to take odds on her survival more than twenty years beyond today.”

OOC: Is there anything in particular you want her to have? or definately not have, such as a pregnancy? It’s your dog so… :D

The short potbellied CMO came out of his office at that moment, looking at his staff treating an Animal of some sort. Interesting he thought to himself. He was not aware of any pets on board outside of the ones that the Science department had. Those were not exactly pets. It was almost if not bigger than he was. That gave Pongo pause, and he decided for now he would evaluate his staff in action, they seemed to have everything under control. Besides Terran animals sometimes had strange reactions to him, and it did not need extra distress at the moment, yes that was it, it did not need extra distress.
