=/\= We have them isolate in our science labs, what do you have on your end Lieutenant?=/\= Calin replied.

Calin CO

=/\= An empty ship claiming that We are alone in an ominous overload type voice but with benevolent undertones =/\= Kate replied to the Captain. =/\= This might sound crazy but can Riss communicate with the nanites? =/\=

Lt. Kate O’Neill Cos

“What are Nanites?” asked the voice.

GM

“A nanites are little robotic type thingys,” Kate said bringing up her fingers and making a tiny space between them.

Lt. Kate O’Neill Cos

“They are nano machines… not little robotic type thingies…” Ean said as he looked at her cock eyed. Why she was in charge he wasn’t sure, Laura was XO and he has been Assistant Chief for before she came in, but Captain Calin wanted fresh meat here to take a stab at this.

Zol, Engineering

“Okay so they are Nano machines,” Kate tried not to role her eyes. Engineering types were always the same. The perseverance on exact details got annoying. “Which if you don’t know what a machine is since you are not familiar with our language it is like this,” Kate touched a large computer bank to her right, “only tiny. They do everything a big machine does only on a microscopic scale. Build structures, treat medical conditions, you know fix things or destroy them by wreaking plagues, creating computer viruses that trap you in a hallway and a simple Hello Hal spells your demise,” Kate added silently to herself. She wasn’t going to tell the possible evil overlord that nugget at least until she had a quilt comeback about sticking them up it’s exhaust port if the situation called for it

Lt Katie Oneill. Cos.

“On a nano scale, nano is a term of measurement, so is micro, nano is smaller than micro. I think it understands basic math terms!” Ean said as he threw his hands in the air.

“Just because we are both in yellow does not mean I spent my career playing with the alphabet and pretending it was numbers. 1+1 always equals 2 no matter how many fancy dancy A’s, D’s, and Q to the RT squared you invent. In the end it still is two,” she held up her fingers

“Listening to you butcher technology is about as bad as trying to watch my mother explain how subspace calls work. Didn’t you learn anything in the Academy. I’m sorry she doesn’t speak for us all some of us have basic communication skills and understanding.” Ean said, knowing he crossed a line he looked from Katie, to Laura, to the CSO and felt lost for words. In four a pound as they say… “Just… maybe I should be the one describing these things ma’am.”

Zol, Engineering

“Really then take a stab there Alexander graham bell because you weren’t hoppin’ at the chance to ask the question when EhhOhh here asked it. And for the record when you are strapped to a chair with a phaser to your head by two irate Russians call Igor and Igor who you swindled on a backdor poker game I’ll give you the theory of martial arts and see how you fare. oh and the next time you get a boo boo I’ll show you what medical nanites do cause that’s what happens when you are sleeping with the shops doctor,” she added silently.

Lt Katie Oneill. Cos

Laura was staring at the two of them in disbelief. Two Starfleet officers were bickering in front of each other like little children. “Silence both of you. This is not professional behavior expected of an officer. We will discuss this later.” she said, with a look like she was about to murder them both.

Ean waited for Laura to turn her back on them as he stuck a tongue out at Katie.

Kate waited making sure that Laura would never see her response. It was subtle but suddenly Kate had something in the corner of her eye. She made sure she was facing Ean as she remedied the situation.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

“I must apologize for their behavior. Ean, please answer the question,” she said, taking charge.

Jenkins, XO

“Fine sure, nanites are typically found from Borg, they are nano machines that behave in an organic manner, turning organic tissue into cybernetic tissue under Borg control.” Ean said, keeping it curt and to the point.

Zol, Engineering

“Then, we are nanites and we are the ship,” the voice concluded. “Why did you bring some of us away from us (the ship)?”

GM

“Not it,” Kate said raising her hand and waiting for the person who beamed the critters off or someone with a few more pips on their collars to answer the question.

Lt Kate O’Neill COS

OOC: Note that the ship were aware of the missing nanites but did not realise they were transported over by the Odin …

Kenson

IC:
“We wanted to scan, we were.... unaware of your nature. We are explorers, we learn. We can… return you?” he said as he looked at Laura then Kate with a look that said he had no damn clue if they could.

Zol, Engineering

“We also want to include knowledge of you,” said the voice. “We will also scan you …”

“Cheese and Rice,” Kate said feeling her body become stiff as she tensed her muscles. She had no idea how the scan thing was going to go but she would be ready for it either way.

The team became aware of a change in the atmosphere. The temperature rose. Suddenly the whole area lit up with extremely bright lights that caused them to close their eyes. After about three minutes, they heard the voice again. “Scan complete!” Immediately, the atmosphere cooled down.

GM

“Do we get a lollipop for good behavior,” Kate asked with a straight face. “Medical scan us and see if anything changed,” she ordered the medical officer in their group in a low voice.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

A medical scan did not show any change in their bodies except that their stress hormones had just increased.

GM

“Okay, so… we’re okay?” Ean said, looking at the group wondering if that was all. “Did, you learn anything?” he said, almost worried about the answer.

Zol, Engineering

“Some of you have DNA of something in main databank … Locutus. Do you know what that is? Data is incomplete,” came the reply.

GM

Few names held such an instant recognition in the Federation. Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, Ephraim Cochrane, James Kirk, and Locutus were the biggies that most people knew it seemed from birth or the second they picked up a history book. “Cheese and Rice,” Kate gritted her teeth as she opened her comm badge. Hopefully Calin would just listen to the verbal exchange now and not reply with a perky ‘Calin here.’ Her goal was to give the Odin a heads up when even a second counted. “Locutus…Locutus. You mean the balding Frenchman who is retired but teaches the occasional college course,” Kate quipped. “If he left something during his little summer camp experience you can GalEx it to him. They have overnight shipping you know.” Kate’s comment was more to buy time than seek out information. If this ship was Borg she needed to find a way to get off it preferably without a bionic attachment that may or may not have a useful purpose.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

“Data incomplete, … ” the voice began, “what is a Frenchman? What is retired? What is college?”

GM

“Is it just me, or does it feel like his databases have been wiped?” Ean asked Kate, unsure how to even react to something like this. “He doesn’t seem to know of anything outside this ship, yet it doesn’t seem hostile.”

Zol, Engineering

Almost as a response to Zol, the voice repeated, “Data incomplete. Help … What is a Frenchman? What is retired? What is college? Data needed … help …”

GM

“Is everything alright?” Laura asked. She was worried that maybe the name Locutus might trigger something and make them hostile against the away team or the ship. Her mind was racing as she tried to find a way to keep the away team safe just in case it became hostile.

Jenkins XO

After a while, the questioning stopped. “Do you wish to help us?” the voice asked,

GM

“No we were just out for a Sunday drive, happened across your ship and thought gosh darn it we should just pop on over uninvited and see if you have Sunday supper on the table,” Kate said a happy, chipper, upbeat tone. Since they were dealing with an alien entity Kate sighed and decided to revise her statement. “Yes. Yes we are here to help so if you could tell us how exactly I know we would be very appreciative.”

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

“Our data is incomplete,” replied the voice. “You can help by telling us what a Frenchman is. What is retired? What is college?”

GM

“Someone who hasn’t won a war in a long, long time,” Kate said immediately. While France throughout Earth’s history had always been a powerhouse the twentieth century was not their finest hour in combat. Resilience and determination yes but brute force not so much. “Retired is where someone moves from an office to a front porch and still barks out orders that pretty much no one listens to. College is the place where you go to get a piece of paper that says ‘by golly that kid can be taught’.” Not missing beat, Kate fired back with her own line of questioning. “You know our data is incomplete my non-corporeal caller,” she stated. “Maybe you could help up by telling us why you are here. You know non-rhetorically or maybe fill in the blank of We are here because,” she drew out the last word and made a gesture for the voice to speak. Kate wasn’t sure the voice had actual eyes on them but anything might help to gain information at this time.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

“I don’t think that is going to work here, it’s just a machine… and it seems to be damaged.” Ean said wondering how to approach them.

Zol, Engineering

There were rumblings of incomplete data by the voice. Then, as if in answer to the questions O’Neill asked, the voice said, “Data incomplete. Exit point found in many incomplete records. Need to complete data. Can you help us?”

GM

“Frenchman, a person native to France, a region of Earth a planet in the Sol system. Retired, the act of stopping a job to take on other duties. College is a location of academic study. You… you may need to come with us.” Ean wasn’t sure if that was a great idea, but he could set up a communication network with limited access. That said, this was Borg technology. He was worried about the idea of introducing them into the ship.

Zol, Engineering

“Data received …” the voice boomed. “Analysis on-going …” Then it asked, “We have data of exit point to this part of the galaxy. Have you encountered us before?”

GM

At that time there was a morse coded message which sounded like static coming from the commbade.

Can you hear me?

GM

“Really Zol. Let’s not be so quick to ingbray ethay orgbay omehay otay adday,” Kate said the last bit in pig latin as she moved to lean agains the wall. So far the boom bass of the hidden voice seemed to pick up English pretty darn quick. Picking things up fast was a Borg fortay which is why Kate didn’t want to give them any advantage at all. As she spoke, Kate also replied to the morse code message of Can you hear me with -.– . … .. -.. — by hitting the wall as if she were bored and just drumming her hands. Her hope however was that the morse coded message she replied to was heard by the person who just sent it. The message was simple. Kate had repied with “Yes I can.”

“Exit data… I…” he looked at Katie then over at Laura, he wasn’t going to open his mouth next.

Lt. Kate O’Neill Cos

The next message was a single word: Situation?

GM

Zol, Engineering

Again, the static came through: Status?
