Ten minutes later on the holodeck

“Oh God,” Kate said entering the program holding Nalia’s hand and casting Shaun a concerned look. “Did they really have to make this program this realistic?” The view in front of them was not what Kate expected. The lines to get in Vaughn-Teller Universe were about ten people deep each. When she had acquired the program it guaranteed authenticity and a real-life experience for everyone. The addition of throngs of people and probably wait times on rides was not what she had expected. Kate had programmed a warm summer day. Maybe she should have picked something else but it was too late.

“I’m a doctor, not an engineer. If you want it done right you could have gone to Ean.

“This is a prototype from my Mom. Apparently, she knows some guy named Gunny who knows Jessica Vaugn Teller, who it the god father of Jessica’s kid,” Kate explained feeling the same frustration as Shaun. “Personally I think Vaughn-Teller sounds like some stuck-up hoity-toity German Baroness but I guess that is what rich people do. Anyway, this Jessica gave Gunny a copy and somehow my Mom got me a copy. I will just tell my mom who can tell Gunny who can tell Jessica that they need to make some changes,” Kate rambled.

“Misser Shaun,” Nalia said looking at him with the same look of concern Kate was wearing. “Are we gonna be able to get in the park?”

“Heh…”

“Shaun,” Kate cut him off fast with a look.

....ck if I know. Uhmm, yes we can I… ” he looked down at her as she seemed so cute, near pouting as she asked.

The word he was about to use was not bad per say but little kid had a way of making a person drinking a glass of wine at dinner a raging alcoholic and the use of the word hell the most infamous curse word you could use.

“Well helll oh oh oh VTU future princesses. Of course, you will get in or my name is not Fortuitousity Freddy,” an overly silly costumed bear dressed as a knight.

“Oh good God,” Kate jumped about three feet off the ground not seeing the character sneak up on their group and start up a conversation. “You are like a cat Freddy,” she said putting a hand to her chest.

“Ah huh huh huh,” Freddy laughed and continued his speech as if on auto-pilot. “Fortuitousity means lucky chances and you are two lucky little girls because you get balloons,” he said as a pink and purple balloon seemed to appear out of nowhere.

“Well maybe you should go elsewhere, like… way over there.” Shaun pointed.

Kate could not help but let out a snicker as the balloon bounced in Shaun’s face as Freddy tried to tie it to Mali’s arm. Shaun was easy going. Nothing really ever bothered him but something told Kate, Shaun might need to fire up his reserve stockpile of patience as Freddy’s tubby fingers fumbled with the string unable to affix it to the tiny wrist allowing it to bounce off Shaun’s face like the blows in a boxing ring.

“And then how could I spread some humdiddly hidey ho happiness from that far away,” Freddy burbled over with laughter.

Mali, while not scared, did press harder into Shaun’s body trying to put more space between her and the deranged grizzly with the large bulging eyes. Nali, while holding Kate’s hand moved from between the two chaperones to semi-hiding behind Shaun’s right side.

This was not Shaun’s cup of tea. Kate knew that from years of dating him yet here he was doing it just for her. She had to do something and instantly a thought popped into her head. =/\=Computer run escape plan=/\= Kate announced praying her gut was right. Instantly the crowds at the entrance disappeared and the scenery was replaced with a thickly wooded forest. It was obvious that they were now in the park. Kate sighed a visible breath or relief. This park was set up to be a full-on family experience, however, no one in their right mind would not have an escape plan when entering it. By luck, Kate hit the right wording or close enough to get them where they wanted to be.

“So where should we go,” Kate said snagging a map from a kiosk next to them. “There is the ferris wheel, the Frog Prince Dive show, tea cups, and the Dragon 500 car track,” Kate said with a sing-song voice indicating that she knew of the choices she listed the cars would appeal to Shaun the most.

“I gots to go potty,” Nali announced to Shaun and wiggled a bit in his arms.

“Really Nal,” Malia said with a disappointed look on her face. “We just got here and Kate and Shaun asked us if we had to go before we left the cabin.” The whine in her voice was just enough to indicate that Malia wanted to go on a ride and not wait in another line for the bathroom.

“Misser Shaun I gotta go weally bad,” Nali looked at him with a slight frown and worried expression.

Shaun looked down, with a wide eye look. “I… I can help.” he said, uncertain almost as he spoke. “Come here little one.” he said as he lifted her up putting her in his arms. “Lets get you to the nearest one.” he said with a smile, he was finding himself more at ease with the young child. He couldn’t help but find her adorable, and she didn’t seem so god awful. “Then when we get out, we go on a big ride cutie.” he said as he kissed her cheek and walked her to the restroom.

“I wanna hat. A big metal one with the thing…like dis,” Nali placed her fingers across her face horizontally and peeked through her fingers. Nali looked into Shaun’s eyes as she spoke and he carried her. It was then she saw what she was trying to describe. “Dat dat,” she started to squirm up instead of down trying to point at something Shaun passed which was now behind him. Scrambling up as much as she could, Nali tried to get a better look over Shaun’s shoulder and began to point wildly.

“One thing at a time little one, you need to let us get you to the bathroom then we can.” he said, kissing her cheek as he took her to the restroom.

She let out a sigh as they disappeared into the restroom. After several songs and a mini rousing conversation about if Shaun liked teddy bears or not Nali emerged with a smile. “So we get my hat now,” she said with a big grin. “I know where it is. Come on,” she danced happily from foot to foot before darting out the door.

“Yes but don’t get too.... far ahead.” he said as she darted, a look of defeat on his face as he ran to catch up.

Kate and Mali looked around the area as they waited for Shaun and Nali to come back. It was then Kate saw it. Coffee: Hot and Cold Confections. “Now that is what I am talking about,” Kate said taking Mali’s hand and walking her to the booth right outside the bathroom. Kate let out a deep contented sigh and began to order.

“Miss Kate can I have one,” Mali said softly looking at the whipped creamed icy drink.

“Yes you can,” Kate said very slowly as if debating her answer. Holding up two fingers, Kate placed the order with a grin. As the clerk handed them over Kate took a long draw from the straw. Mali did the same but wrinkled up her nose a bit. “It’s okay honey. It is just the first sip. Move the straw around so you mix up the caramel swirl,” Kate suggested.

Murmurs could be heard as Shaun began chasing Nali, it was like a bad comedy from Britain golden eras as he kept dashing back and forth to get a hold of her as Kate had her coffee. She was grabbing everything he could wanting it all before he finally got her, dragging her back with what seemed like a whole loot in tow. Hats, inflatable swords, stuffed animals and so many balloons as it looked as if they could take her off.

“I found her… did you have… coffee? Really?” he said staring at Kate. “You couldn’t stop and help me? We had to fight a mascot for this…” he said as he looked behind him and Kate could find the head of a Marvin Munchkin Man costume trailing behind them. “What do you think of tubes tied…”
