There were rumblings of incomplete data by the voice. Then, as if in answer to the questions O’Neill asked, the voice said, “Data incomplete. Exit point found in many incomplete records. Need to complete data. Can you help us?”

GM

“Frenchman, a person native to France, a region of Earth a planet in the Sol system. Retired, the act of stopping a job to take on other duties. College is a location of academic study. You… you may need to come with us.” Ean wasn’t sure if that was a great idea, but he could set up a communication network with limited access. That said, this was Borg technology. He was worried about the idea of introducing them into the ship.

Zol, Engineering

“Data received …” the voice boomed. “Analysis on-going …” Then it asked, “We have data of exit point to this part of the galaxy. Have you encountered us before?”

GM

At that time there was a morse coded message which sounded like static coming from the commbade.

Can you hear me?

GM

“Really Zol. Let’s not be so quick to ingbray ethay orgbay omehay otay adday,” Kate said the last bit in pig latin as she moved to lean agains the wall. So far the boom bass of the hidden voice seemed to pick up English pretty darn quick. Picking things up fast was a Borg fortay which is why Kate didn’t want to give them any advantage at all. As she spoke, Kate also replied to the morse code message of Can you hear me with -.– . … .. -.. — by hitting the wall as if she were bored and just drumming her hands. Her hope however was that the morse coded message she replied to was heard by the person who just sent it. The message was simple. Kate had repied with “Yes I can.”

“Exit data… I…” he looked at Katie then over at Laura, he wasn’t going to open his mouth next.

Lt. Kate O’Neill Cos

The next message was a single word: Situation?

GM

Zol, Engineering

Again, the static came through: Status?

Ch’ethyniq, CSO

There was only one word that summed up their current situation. “S.N.A.F.U,” Kate typed out as she said it. “Okay, so can you humor me? I was blonde as a child,” Kate scratched her forehead. “Explain exit data. I do not understand the term. Make it simple and direct okay,” she asked feeling frustration at the situation.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

There was silence from the ship as if it was paying attention to the exchange between the COS and the engineer.

GM

Laura really hoped the entity was unable to understand morse code because at the moment they were at its mercy. The COS wasn’t helping the situation and seemed to lack the ability to lead the away team. She was worried if she continued, then the alien would throw them all out the airlock rather than deal with them. “We can’t help you unless you tell us what you know.”

Jenkins XO

The voice took a while to reply, “Gaps in data. Caution against carbon units. What are carbon units?”

GM

The static came through again. “Extraction?”

CSO

“Carbon units?” Ean didn’t like the question, he looked over at Laura and Katie and wondered if it was time to bolt.

Zol, Engineering

“You contain carbon,” began the voice, “but it makes up less than 25% of your bodies. You are composed more of the element oxygen by mass and hydrogen by atomic count. What are carbon units?”

GM

OOC: There is quite a number of LOAs on the roster and this is going to be tough. I am going to reveal things about the ship if you continue to engage the ship. I will work out an alternative as quite a number of the Senior officers have taken an LOA.

GM

The voice remained in the same dead-panned tone, but it was speaking a little faster, “Data needed. Please respond. What are carbon units?”

GM

bump

“There… ” Ean choked as he looked over at Kate and Laura, he wasn’t sure if he should say. This felt like playing into a dangerous game, and they were defensless. “It’s… life?” he said, a hint of uncertainity in his voice. He wasn’t wanting to say what kind of life for fear of their own.

Zol, Engineering

“Life?” asked the voice. “We are alive and we are not made of carbon …”

GM

-bump-

“Life can vary… most tends to be carbon based, but there are unique cases. Why do you ask these questions? What are you seeking?” Ean asked, he needed to know more to figure out where to go with this, he couldn’t help if he didn’t have answers.

Zol, Engineering

“We have gaps in the data banks,” replied the voice. “We need to fill up the data if we are to operated in optimal conditions.”

GM

Using their tricorders, the away team would have been able to locate the nodes where the data could be tapped.

GM

bump

“Over here” Ean said walking over to the nodes as he directed Katie and Laura over to where he was at. “It appears to be where they are storing the data. It’s… corrupted. I don’t know what to do though, suggestions? Is it right to give them full access to all… those memories?”

Zol, Engineering
