“You know maybe we should ask someone where we are going instead of roaming about like two zombies. I mean XO’s get lost all the time. No one will think anything if we stop for directions,” Paris teased him.

Lt commander. Parisi (soon to be married)

“Noooo,” Mason said, letting it run into a drawn out answer. “XO’s do not get lost all the time, and anyway I am sure that this time of night most people are asleep and waiting for their next shift, best not to wake them and make a fuss, especially if we are like a couple of zombies.” Mason grinned and took Paris’ hand, then pulled her into a turbo lift. “Lets try the next floor, see if we get lucky.”

“Or maybe we get lucky in the turbo,” Paris hit the button for the emergency stop. The ride came to an abrupt halt. The occupants didn’t feel it due to the inertial dampeners but they could hear the metal and plastic moan a bit from the strain. Pushing off the wall Paris moved in front of Mason wrapping her arms around his neck. “Thank you,” she said softly pressing her lips to his.

Mason let his hands wrap around her waist and the feeling of her lips press against his for a time, letting them linger before he pulled back slightly and looked at her. “What for Bub?”

“For being you,” she responded looking deep in his eyes. “For this,” she gestured around her. The family question had been raised, dealt with, and solved but his transfer to the Odin was all for her or at least that is how Paris viewed it. Mason had been thrilled with the fast little ship and small crew. He thrived on knowing everyone personally yet for all the Asimov offered, it did not give her one thing: the chance to have a family. The Asimov was not a family ship so in order to have what she wanted Paris was going to have to give up her dream and ride her career out with Mason or have her dream and spend weeks to months without her best friend by her side. It was a situation she struggled with until he got the Odin.

Lt. Commander Paris Carisi

He smiled at her, and then let his lips press against hers again, harder this time before pulling back once again. “You know I did this for you and for us. The Asimov was a great little ship, but it was a great ship for a single man with a dream to be a Captain.” Mason pulled Paris closer into him and let his arms wrap around her waist, and just held her for the moment. “My dream is to be with you,” he told her softly, “my best friend, my companion and my partner in crime, and my fiance. After what happened on the colony on Beltran II, the Asimov wasn’t the best place for us anymore. You are worth everything I do, Paris. Always have been and always will be.”

“Your dream is to be a captain? I am pretty sure your dream is to be a father with a passel of kids so large we can command our own ship the size of the Azzy one day,” she smiled up at him. While Mason had made his views clear that with his condition he did not want to father his own offspring, he had wholeheartedly embraced the idea of adopting a few rugrats. Paris needed children to be content but not at the expense of losing Mason. The idea of the Mason family was still far enough in the future not to worry about the mechanics of achieving this dream. As long as he was beside her, that was all she needed to be happy in the here and now.

“No, that’s not what I said,” Mason said smiling slightly at her. “Pay attention sunshine, I think that tender loving moment just flew right over your head.” Mason made a show of rolling his eyes and raising an eyebrow. “What I said, was the Azzy was a great place for a single man with a dream of being a Captain, right? I’m not a single man last time I checked, and those two Orion girls at the bar at our last stop certainly are aware of that after that little performance you did to make the point I was yours.” Biting his lip, Mason raised his hands slightly and wiggled his hips side to side in a bad approximation of the moves Paris had shown after dragging him onto the dance floor.

“Now the Odin, is a great place for one Mr Black and one soon to be Mrs Black to be in order to fill Starfleet Academy’s class of 2416 with the next generation of Officers.” Mason grew quiet for a moment, and glanced at her. “Do you think she is ok? That little girl, Ha…” His sentence was cut off by the turbo-lift doors opening.

As the doors to the turbo opened, Mason and Paris found themselves not anywhere near room 717. They could tell this because of the large mechanical panels and tubes lining the walls. If they were in a building the hallway would resemble a basement walked way of a service tunnel.

“Hey I have been waiting on yous for the past hour,” a voice yelled through a mouthful of sandwich approaching them. He was clearly in operations yet why he was waiting in this hallway all the way down here was a mystery.

“Um I am pretty sure the us you are waiting for is not the us we are. Paris,” she stuck out her hand out.

“Geeze I hope not because you don’t look like a Barney or Ernest,” he grinned wiping off his hand before taking hers. ‘What yous two doin’ down here,” he asked taking another bite of his sandwich.

Paris

“That is a really, really good question.” Mason said and looked back in the turbo lift as the doors started to close. “Are these things broken?” He asked, “Because I am pretty sure we selected to go up, not down to the lower decks.”

He poked Paris in the waist subtly but firmly. “No, I’m not lost,” he told her, “that thing just took us in the wrong direction.”
