When permission was granted, two of the inhabitants of the ‘colony’ beamed up.

Morganna was standing at the foot of the transporter pad, her hands folded in front of her round abdomen. She had a gentle smile on her face, that belied her concern about the visitors.

Kate took up a position slightly behind Morganna so that no one would question who was in charge of this situation but close enough that if the visiting pair trie anything, she would have them eating baby food for the next two months.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

One was a beautiful dark-skinned woman; the other was a short Ferengi man. The dark-skinned woman looked human but the air about her did not give that impression. As they appeared on the transporter pad, they wore a relaxed air.

GM

Ka’Lissi had arrived just a moment before the others. She had set the transporters to scan for anything and everything that may be anomalous. That included DNA coding.

As they materialized, she read the Ferengi as just that. But a slight change to her features showed that the computer’s readings of the other one, weren’t quite clear.

“Welcome aboard,” she said, quickly shunting the readings to secured systems in case anyone tampered with the console or logs later. A second set went to her personal encrypted files. “I’m Ka’Lissi Rosh. Welcome to the USS Odin.” The half Klingon didn’t exactly smile because it made her look more fearsome than welcoming.

The dark-skinned woman smiled slyly but the Ferengi man looked terrified.

“I am Maya,” said the woman. “This is my chief advisor, Gum.” She looked around and said, “Isn’t your captain coming to greet me?”

GM

Morganna stepped forward “I’m Lt Cmdr Morganna Salazar. I’m the Counselor for the Odin. Welcome aboard. ” She said extending her hand to Maya. “The Captain is dealing with another issue and asked me to meet you in his place.” She said “If you’ll come with me, Captain Calin will meet us in the Diplomatic room.” She said gesturing for the two to join her.

CNS

The woman raised her eyebrows. She then gave a small smile and said, “Please lead the way.” She was the same woman that Morganna had sensed before on the bridge. Her mind was like a Ferengi but she did not look at all like one.

GM

Morganna nodded “I hope that we can make you comfortable while you are visiting with us.” She said “Is there anything you would care to drink once we arrive in the conference room?” Morganna asked as they stepped into the lift to head to the conference room.

CNS

“A nice glass of water would do just fine,” the woman said. “Gum would probably want something stronger?”

“No, Ma’am,” the Ferengi said hesitantly. “I would also have a glass of water.”

GM

Morganna nodded “Water it is.” She said as they arrived at the conference room “Please have a seat. I will make sure that the Captain is aware that we have arrived.” She said touching her comm badge =^=Captain, I have our guests in the conference room.=^= She said as she went to the replicator and requested two glasses of cool water and returned to the table with the beverages and took a seat as well.

CNS

The two moved their eyes around the conference room as if this was the first time they were in such a well equipped room.

GM

Morganna gave a slight smile “You haven’t seen one of our conference rooms have you?” She asked Maya “If you have any questions that I can answer I would be happy to do so.” She offered.

CNS

“Ah,” said Maya, “We are not usually invited on board a Starfleet vessel. I must say that Starfleet has a reputation of having more comfortable ships than the Klingons. Ferengi ships …” she said with a slight sneer towards Gum, “they still are not as women friendly as they should be. No non-Romulan has even been able to leave a Romulan ship … untouched.”

GM

Morganna nodded “Well, I can assure you that you will be able to leave here without being touched by anyone.” She said “We try to make our guests feel as comfortable as possible.” She said “If you would like something to eat, I can arrange that as well.” Morganna offered.

CNS

Something felt off to Kate about this woman. Nothing solid and nothing she would bet her career on; however, she would not leave this spot unless ordered to by the cap.

“Is there a reason that we’re not meeting the captain?” asked the woman with suspicion in her voice. “We’ve been invited to discuss why your ship would like to search out our home. I certainly hope that the delay is not duplicity on your part.”

GM

Morganna started to say something and was cut off by Rivar walking into the room for which she gave a sigh of relief.

“There is no reason at all.” Rivar chimed in as he entered looking at the pair. “Ships just take a lot to command, sometimes you gotta make certain all the cogs are running before you can excuse yourself. Thank you Commander for helping them while I was away.” Calin said as he offered his hand to the group. “I am Commodore Rivar Calin, pleasure to meet you.”

Calin, CO

The woman took his hand. “The pleasure is all mine,” she purred, looking at the Commodore with more than interested eyes. “I am Maya, elected representative of the Fecafe Combine,” she introduced herself, using the name of the makeshift colony for the first time. “And this …,” she pointed to the Ferengi beside her, “is my chief advisor, Gum.”

GM

As in Hubba Bubba, Kate silently monologued to herself. Ferengi as a race was not the most selfless and altruistic. Having one as your chief advisor often meant your coiffures might be taking a hit. Still she was just a schmuck carrying a phaser. They did not pay her enough to point this stuff out publically.

Kate O’Neill COS

OOC: LOL. Great post … light and humorous. Yet relevant to the sim!

Kenson

Morganna stood up when Rivar entered the room and was about to introduce him when he introduced himself. She glanced at Kate and returned to her seat for the meeting.

CNS

You heard that didn’t you, Kate spared Morganna the briefest of gazes. I forget you are Betazoid. I tend to get a little lippy which you probably know with me yammering away on the bridge from time to time. Anyway know I have no issue pretending to stumble because my leg fell asleep and shooting Maya in the arse if she does that cooing thing again when talking to your husband. Yes yes normal people are above that stuff but I am a country girl and I have no issue taking her out for you. We women need to stick together so if you want the stumble arse shot run your fingers through your hair. I won’t miss and then Calin can deal with Gum, Kate let her mental conversation float where it needed to go.

Besides these two people seemed like an unlikely pair because they are an unlikely pair. No Ferengi bows to the authority of a woman unless um okay there is no reason, Kate struggled to keep a neutral expression as she mind yammered away. So why is this one all about being Maya’s second and liking it? Does he have some mind control on her, Kate posed to Morganna.

Kate O’Neill

OOC: Pasting in

“Pleasure to meet you both, I must confess this is an interesting group you have out here. I never expected to see this as we began our investigation.” Calin said as he offered a seat for everyone as he sat down. “More of my staff will be in shortly, till they arrive would you care for anything to drink or eat?”

Calin, CO

“We have had our drink,” replied Maya. “You invited us to show us evidence of …” she trailed off as she looked at the captain expectantly.

GM

Hold your horses lady, Kate thought pushing up from the table. Moving to the replicator she got a coffee for the captain and a refill for Morganna. Nothing made her crazier than someone who was too eager and she didn’t know why. Kate didn’t care if the lady saw the security chief looking like a yeoman. In fact she hoped that is what the woman would perceive. Kate could kill them both the a dinner fork and she was talking the little one you scooped a bite of oyster with if they need arose. People’s greatest downfall was impatience and false impressions. Let them think Kate was a cupcake. It might just make them lax which o my worked in the Odin’s crew favor if the meeting became less cordial than coffee talk.

Lt. Kate. O’Neill. Cos

Maya’s eyes were fixed on the Captain but Gum’s eyes were roaming around, landing on the women in the room.

GM

“Lieutenant O’Neill, bring up the telemetry data from the attack against the freighter,” Rivar ordered as he looked over at Kate as he waited for her to follow the order.

“You mean the part where a large proportion of the communications were encrypted and it took us a few minutes to decipher them,” Kate threw out more to probe the situation than actually being that confused. For a group that professed friendship it did seem odd that there was any encryption to the fleet chatter. At least for now it didn’t seem like a military installation so there was no need for secrecy. “Or do you want the information on the two ships that decloaked out of no where which if I am not mistaken....cloaking technology is outlawed by the Federation,” Kate brought up the second point about how unfriendly the colony seemed to be on the surface. “Or the two other ships with a warp drive being chased by a ship with a singularity drive?” Kate knew this was what Calin wanted but it allowed for more talking points if the captain wanted to pursue them. She sure was interested in figuring out what the Romulans were doing here

“As you can see, we started with a distress call, there was an attack, which at the time was by an unknown force…” Calin said as the data began pooling in, showing the two the information they had so far.

Calin, CO

After looking for a few moments, Maya asked, “I see that your data shows that the ship entered our space. From the data you have shown me, it does not seem to be any of my ships. Yet, if a strange ship entered out space, we would have noticed it immediately. I see now why you would want to search our space. As you would have noticed, we have quite a number of ships in our space …”

She looked at Gum and frowned. Then she turned back to the captain and said, “You have brought me enough evidence to justify a search. Know, however, that there are several of us who are wanted by their own people, like the Cardassians and Klingons. They have been called traitors and the like because they did not agree with their governments’ policies. You will also find fugitives from the Federation. The inhabitants here know that they are protected so long as they do not attack others unprovoked. To raid freighters would be considered as unprovoked attack. If you can promise me that you would only focus on the perpetrators of that raid, I will allow entrance. You must agree not to take in anyone else, especially those who are political fugitives.”

GM

“I would think our prime directive is clear enough, we don’t interfere in foreign powers… if they ask us to bring someone in due to an extradition treaty… they have to be in our control in our space, we are not bounty hunters,” Calin said as he looked over at his team. He didn’t truly like these turn of events but he wasn’t going to start a war if someone had a few criminals on board either.

Are you talking willingly or unwillingly, Kate thought to herself. The Federation was not a utopia but it was darn close than other places in the galaxy. The Federation allowed for free speech and different ideas so the idea its citizens had to feel as political refuges for not agreeing with policy was preposterous and just plain southern manners of watering down something to make it palatable for polite conversation.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

OOC: A Starfleet officer who had access to Starfleet secrets, who had defected to the Romulans be considered a political fugitive, wouldn’t he? :)

GM

Morganna listened carefully to what Maya had to say, she did not sense any deception. She wondered out loud “If you didn’t want to be found? Where might they go?” She asked leaning forward.

CNS

OOC: Remember that you cannot sense Maya at all.

“Agreed, that would help us greatly. Is there some ships that tend to be easier to get into?”

Calin, CO

“I am sure you would have noticed that there are several artificial large satellites orbiting the planet. They are like refuelling stations for ships. The raiders could leave their ship there and then transport themselves down to the planet below where there are many caverns housing many different communities. There are a few for traders, at least two where bounty hunters can get information on opportunities for bounty. There are also a few for farmers. These are usually made up of the fugitives we spoke of earlier. They have a small plot of land above ground to keep them occupied and sustained whilst their homes are underground in the caverns. You might call these communities in the caverns ‘villages’, if you preferred it.”

GM

“Do you know how big the cave systems are? Are they mapped? Can we scan them from orbit to get a better idea? I don’t like the idea of going on blind into a bunch of cave systems with people who might not be pleased to see Federation Red and Gold beaming down.” Calin asked, needing more than this to feel comfortable about sending anyone down at all.

“Sir if we are allowed by our hosts,” Kate looked at Maya and Gum, “I would suggest we we break off into teams. Have one team check out each of the areas they mentioned? We can have science check out the farmers. Engineering check out the traders and I can take on the bounty hunters,” she suggested. This away mission was bound to get fun. She hadn’t been in the equivalent of a space biker bar in a long time. “It might give us some information on what brought us here.”

Kate O’Neill COS

“We have no choice to split up… I just want more data is all.”

Morganna made a few notes about the possible location “Would you have heard anything about strangers arriving at one of these stations?” She asked

CNS

“We have trading ships that are familiar to us,” said Gum, when Maya looked to him to provide the answer. “We are generally not very familiar with their crew. They change quite a bit. You could say that we do not care too much about individual strangers. We pay more attention to ships that are strangers in this parts.”

Maya added, “Once your ship is accepted as a guest, no one can claim that you are unwelcome. I cannot vouch for those who have … shall we say … a less than sterling experience with Starfleet or the Federation, to be friendly. However, they can still protest to the authorities, that is, the council of which I am the presider, of your entry, but they would be transgressing the rules if they turn hostile and threaten you.”

GM

Morganna nodded and looked at Rivar and waited for additional questions or orders, she liked Kate’s idea of splitting up. She wasn’t sure if they were actually going to find who they were looking for. She also did not feel that it would be wise for her to join any of the away teams, but would be available for consultation.

CNS

“While we are here… turnabout is fair play and all… our teams can aid some of these people if they need any help. Our goal is to find these terrorists but I don’t want the Federation to get a reputation of just taking and leaving… humanitry aid is a large part of what we strive for. If our help isn’t wanted that’s fine, but if we can help I am willing to offer it… if asked.”

Calin, CO

“Captain,” said Maya, “I am sure that the council welcomes the aid you offer, especially if it is to aid our residents improve our lives. I believe the village councils have been doing a good job of keeping the peace. We’re not as disciplined as the armed forces in the various systems but I’d like to believe that though rough at the edges, we still are decent people. I will return then, if there isn’t any other thing, to discuss, to make the necessary announcements to the people regarding your visit.”
