Abel thought for a moment as he chewed and, washing down the bit of food, he said “Well, if I don’t I don’t know who my family would task with managing this… probably one of their - ” and he made air quotes with his fingers ” - ‘business associates’. And that would be either just as bad… or actually even worse… than if they were still in control. So from that aspect, I think I should. But I think the bigger question, and specifically what I need your help with, is… what do I do with this? Feed the hungry? Make sure children have clothes and education? Create a think tank for some task? I mean, this could be a huge benefit to people if it’s done right. And once I know where to direct this… structure… I can just let it do it’s thing and show up when I am on leave.” and he chuckled slightly.

Abel, CMO

“Well, doing something good is noble but, what do you want? I have a feeling no one ever asks you that. What is your interest? Passions? You need to be able to pick that and go with something you can have a love for. If you don’t then this becomes all just a burden, and not one you will want to keep up on.” Calin asked as he took a sip from his tea. This was a unique prospect, to be able to make something that reflects you.

Abel paused and thought long in silence. Finally speaking, he said “Honestly, Captain… I don’t know. All I have ever wanted was to help people. Medicine was the road to that goal. Thankfully I am also good at it.” and he chuckled. “But this… This is something all together different. I don’t… I don’t know much about passion… but I do know that I want to use this to help people. And… and…” and he took a deep breath and said “And I know I don’t know you all that well, sir… But I wanted to ask you what you think would be a good purpose? I trust you to at least have a broader perspective than I have. And I would appreciate your input in this.”

Abel, CMO

“Then we help, how about a medical foundation for colony planets that don’t have access as much to Starfleet medicine? You could aid other planets from the safety of the ship and still give the aid these people can’t always get. I know of a few worlds that could really use some, and even non Federation worlds that are not affiliated could also use the help. Federation tries to aid them too but that is something that could help there too. Lot of frontier worlds need that help.” Calin suggested, wondering what Abel would think of that.

“If not that, medical research is always needed as well, new diseases found all the time need cures.”

Calin, CO

Abel sat and thought about the idea for a moment. “We could not only provide medical supplies, but we could build clinics, hire staff, provide training programs… Captain, that is a great idea! Thank you!”

Abel, CMO

“Anytime, name one of the facilities after me though. I like it to be a big one, something flashy maybe? Calin Institute of Higher Medicine?” Calin said smirking a bit as he had a bit of fun with Abel.

Abel smiled and then laughed. “Deal. I’ll make sure you get the best seat at the dedication gala, as well.”

“So, is that all that has been eating at you? You know none of my past lives were ever counselors but I can pretend one was if that’ll make you feel better.” Calin said with a small smirk as he took a sip of his drink. “Just go with the flow and shout out key words like you can do it, and to be fair from what I have seen, you probably can.”

Calin, CO

Abel laughed. A genuine laugh, and one he had not felt in many days. “Oh yeah, Commodore. That’s all. Just the massive amounts of philanthropic and financial holdings of a multi-system conglomerate being dropped in my lap. No, no. I’m sure that happens all the time. Silly me for getting worked up about it.” and he looked at the CO and a sly grin played across his features. “You realize, of course, I’m going to have to have a staff on board, right? Nothing big, ten or fifteen… tops.”

Abel, CMO

“Well we can use maybe some of our people… and I am serious. I think some of the crew if you present this right might help volunteer. I would encourage it even as long as we don’t get into situations where the non profit charity disrupts the business of the ship. As for extra staff… we’ll see how many. I think fifteen sounds a lot but we can work out those logistics I think, telecommunication is done in many business.” Calin said with a small smirk, unsure if he wanted an entire staff but willing to at least think on the concept.

Calin, CO

“I may just do that. I haven’t had the opportunity to meet many of the crew yet. BUt as I get to know… and of course trust some… I may extend the opportunity. And I was joking about the staff, sir. And if the need does come up, I’ll keep in minimal.”

Abel, CMO

“Well the medical and science staff would love it, maybe even the engineering… Lieutenant O’Neill may shoot someone but she is pretty good too, just not sure what you might need for security.” Rivar said with a small smirk.

Calin, CO

Abel nodded. “I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you, sir.” and he stood up. “I do apologize for taking up your time, Commodore. But thank you for letting me use you as a sounding board.”

Abel, CMO

“Anytime Abel… now if there is nothing else… I probably need to get to the home. Pregnant wife and kids means I shouldn’t be away for too long when off duty or someone will burn down our quarters.” Calin said with a wink as he got up with Abel.
