Posted by Lieutenant Ean Zol (Engineering Officer) in CMO Visits the Lounge on his First day Posted by… suppressed (6) by the Post Ghost! 👻 So far it had been a great first day. He got his new quarters, they were HUGE!, at least to him they were. They needed some remodeling, maybe engineering would be so kind as to help get his hammock strung up, the beds were just too soft. But it had been a long day none the less Pongo thought with a sigh. Arriving, beaming aboard, getting his quarters, visiting with the Counselor, the CO, visiting his Sickbay for the first time, and checking out his office. Then touring the other two sickbays. WHEW! now it was time for chow. : : : : : : : : : : Pongo was an inherently social person. He loved meeting people, and getting to know them. That is why he would almost always be found catching his meals in 18 Forward. There were people there, people to meet, people to watch. As he entered into the lounge he paused, and thought WOW. his dark grey and cream upper lip curled back in a smile as he stood in the doorway and marveled. There were people about, there were games to play, a bar, this place had everything. Though he had no idea what the game was involving the table and sticks, or the small pointed objects being thrown at the wall, he was interested. Oh bean bags being tossed, he liked that one. If he remembered correctly it was called Cornwall, or maybe that was a place, and the game was something else entirely. Those chocolate brown eyes twinkled merrily as he slowly entered, his short stubby bow legged legs. Red gold fur stuck out all directions from his head, and ran down the bare parts of his arm, in some places nearly 8 inches in length, he was wearing a white t-shirt, and denim overalls. Both dark grey hands and feet were bare as he continued his swaying waddle into the room, eyes wide, and grin showing off pearly whites framed by large incisors on either side. Nothing about Pongo said intimidating, he was not even five feet tall, and his round little belly filled his overalls. This room was amazing. The chubby little Tuanee doctor could not decide what to do first. : : : : : : : : : : Lieutenant Commander Pongo Bubbles, MD, CMO : : : : : : : : Ean had just gotten off his shift when he entered the lounge, he sensed a lot of the same faces but there was mind that was a little unique. Pongo thought patterns didn’t match what he knew as normal patterns. Spotting the new officer. Walking up to him he smiled, “Sir? When did you arrive?” he asked, wanting to be polite and strike up a conversation. : : : : : : : : Zol, Engineering : : : : : : When he was spoken to Pongo turned around, and curled his lip back in a smile. Ohhhh this one had black eyes a Betazoid, they could read emotions, and thoughts, and stuff. Pongo loved people over all, the empaths were generally the best they always wanted people to be happy, cause that was better than feeling everyone being sad and stuff. Oh wait they had asked him a question. Large warm chocolate brown eyes twinkled as he rolled back the last few seconds and recalled the question. : : : : : : “I arrived just today.” said the red gold furred alien dressed in overalls and a t-shirt, barefoot, there was even fur sticking out from the bottoms of the overalls. “I am Doctor Bubbles, Pongo Bubbles” Pongo was not certain of the Betazoid customs, so he just extended his hand out and up for a hand shake. The mind inside was as sharp as any other that Ean had encountered, but mostly filled with wonder, awe, and joy. This was a genuinely happy camper. : : : : : : Lieutenant Commander Pongo Bubbles, MD, CMO : : : : “Doctor Pongo Bubbles? I must admit I don’t think I have ever meet anyone of your species.” Konral said as he sat down next to him. “May I ask what planet you are from?” he asked the officer, curious to find out why he had never meet anyone like him before. : : : : Zol, Engineering : : Pongo’s upper lip rolled back in a wide smile, which Ean easily could distinguish from a snarl with the emotions that were behind it. Pongo seemed to love his planet, and where he was from and happily would talk about it. A cream and grey hand pushed the fur back from Pongo’s face. With a little bit of a wiggle to settle himself. Pongo took a long drink from what might have been a Bloody Mary, but might have just been juice based on scent. : : “I am a Tuan” which the red gold furred being pronounced, Two On, “from the Planet Ashlar. It is near the Border of the Cardassian Union. And Since I am the first of the Tuan to attend the Academy, I am not shocked you have never heard of us before.” Pongo took another drink, with a satisfied sigh. “You are a Betazoid based on your eyes, and ease with people, but who forgot to tell me his name” Pongo stated sticking his tongue out jokingly. : : Lieutenant Command Pongo Bubbles, MD, CMO “I am Ean, Ean Zol.” he said with a large smile. “Pleasure to meet you Pongo. I don’t know if I ever meet anyone from your planet. Are they members if the Federation?” Zol asked. Zol, Engineering

Pongo grinned, and extended a hand for shaking that was what most of the hairless peoples seemed to do. Pongo really wanted to make a decent impression. The surface emotions were floating around his head, constant joy and wonderment. There were so many things, so many people would have taken for granted here. “Well met Ean, you are the acting chief engineer correct?” Pongo picked one of the tall cocktail tables. One that he was almost eye level with the seat of the stool, and then he swarmed up it swinging and climbing at the same time. “I am not surprised we are an insular people, or history has taught us to be cautious of outsiders. If not for the Dominion and the Cardassians, we likely would still be so. But when we stole that ship and flew it, the Federation saw and came to help.” Pongo said, as if he had been there for that.

“That is correct, Cristof our former Chief had to take off. I am the Assistant Chief Engineer, so whenever one leaves I always end up in their shoes. It’s kinda funny always seems to find them fleeing.” he said as he sat next to him thinking about what he said.

“What do you mean stole the ship? I guess I just don’t know this history.” Ean said, he wasn’t sure what happened.

Pongo settled in and spread his arms wide. He was getting ready to tell the story, but the cute furry little alien, in that particular pose almost begged to be hugged cuddled, and carried off. In fact all across the room were scattered Awwwwws as ladies and gents alike saw him for the first time.

“We were a people that had little, but our planet had much. The Tuan is but one of the five peoples of New Ashalar. Not that any of us know where old Ashalar is,” there was a hint to his tone, that Pongo knew, or had ideas, “or if there ever was such a place. The Protectorate of the Libra, they might know, but they never speak. Anyway, you do not want to know all the histories of the peoples. You want to know about the Ship, the night of Rage, and the Sunrise on our Freedom. It started nearly half a century before. The Sky darkened over our people’s cities, and the Spoon headed Lizard men came, with their lightning weapons, and impenetrable skins. The Might of the people was crushed, we were enslaved, and we were owned. Some even kept, us as pets.” Pongo said, his smile was gone, his eyes looked at the Table, indicating he was one of those said pets.

“You call them Cardassians, we call them the Testers. We resisted. We fought, but they could fight from the skies and from the reaches of the black beyond, always more came. The true of heart gathered in the storerooms, and harvest halls and a plan was made. We would take one of their Ships, the Chariots that could cross the great black, and find where they nested to destroy them once and for all.” Pongo paused, and took a drink. There was a profound sadness in his eyes, for what had happened to his people, or maybe for something else. “Rose up against our Oppressors, we took from them what they had taken from us.” Pongo’s lips curled back slightly, revealing the fangs that made him just a little less cute, a little more fearsome and dangerous. Like meeting an animal in the wild defending it’s young. There was even more an echo back to the creature that Pongo was often compared too. Others had stopped talking nearby and were listening intently to the Chief Medical Officer spin his tail. Pongo had not even noticed, nor did he realize he was no longer seated but Perched on the front on the stool leaning towards the Engineer. Not in a threatening manner, but in one that almost said he wanted forgiveness for what came next.

Ean nodded, he still could remember the war, his homeworld taking when he was at a young age seared into his memory. He may not have had to live oppressed for long, but Betazed had it’s scars that made him feel a level of empathy he might not have had otherwise towards Pongo.

“How long ago was this? Cardassian Union had a great many sins that many people never knew of today. Bajor was well known but the Federation had fought them due to their oppressive nature several times in the past three decades.”

Pongo paused, “Not more than twenty years now, it was near the beginning of your war with the Dominion. Our planet is in the Denassis belt, Rich in Trillium, Dilitium and other mineral deposits, well Not on Ashalar, but in the system. Well when we were discovered the dark times were near a half century maybe longer, few talked of the beginnings” Pongo leaned back. “Almost all volunteered, only a small few were chosen, I was chosen. In the dark of the night from the trees we came, Not a survivor did we leave. Man or woman all were killed in the taking, No invader still remained on Ashalar, but always more would come, and enact punishments for our sins. Not this time we vowed we took even those that were aboard the ship, we small few hidden in the storage bins, then we released ourselves and took the crew. The ones that weren’t killed in battle went off on a flying dutchmen” Pongo looked down ashamed at that. Even they Captains errand runner.

“We were not sophisticated but it was fairly simple we looked at images and figured it out, or so we thought, instead we warped directly into a federation fleet. and at least could figure out how to answer a hail. The Humans that spoke us first were rather rude calling us racial slurs, till we figured out you were comparing us to animals from your homeworld.” Pongo took another long drink and paused.

“No my homeworld, though I did train there. So, what made you want to join the Federation? You just meet us a few decades ago and you became the first, is there a reason you felt inclined to?”

Zol, Engineering

Pongo looked at Ean, and shrugged, the empath would detect that he had considered fibbing, not outright lying but not telling the whole truth. “I am a doctor, you have medicine that appeared to be Magic to my people. I would have been remiss in my oath not to learn it whatever the cost was.” That statement was completely true but not the entirety of the truth of the matter. The council intended to send someone, and whomever they selected had no real choice in the matter. So Pongo had volunteered, he had not children, not mate, he would not allow someone else to be separated when he could just go. “And I did the best at Row Sham Bowl, when they were clearing the lists of volunteers.” By the best, Pongo had specifically lost as many possible to the Candidates that had families. It was not until he was boarding the shuttle that his deceptions had been uncovered and revealed by the Council, he was still in trouble for cheating the system to go to Starfleet Medical School. The Council only wanted to send their very best, to set the expected standards of the people, but it was too late Pongo had already been accepted and was expected.

Ean looked at Pongo intently, he could sense there was perhaps more, but he long ago promised to not pry. If Pongo didn’t want to tell him everything that was his prerogative. “We all have to start somewhere, and here you are. Do you feel your people have benefited at all? Such a change in such a short time it can be devastating to a culture and people.

Zol, Engeineering

Pongo looked at Ean and grinned, “One day I hope they will see that I did as well as I could, and tried to make it easier for the next generation to follow on. While we adapt quickly we are a bit traditional on many subjects and that will stifle almost as much as the Klingons were.” Pongo said eventually. “As for me, well I did things I am not proud of, but for reasons that I am”
