I am sure I am not the first, but I hope I am not the last to welcome you to the Odin. I am Ka’Lissi Rosh, the Chief Engineer. I wanted to offer my availability should you have any questions about engineering. I have enclosed the latest round of maintenance and test logs. You will be happy to know everything is running on the high end or above tolerance. Also listed are weapons’ stores, and calibration limits for all weapons and engine systems from the last 30 days.

If you are in need of any further information or assistance, my door is always open.

Welcome aboard once more.

Lt Ka’Lissi Rosh
Chief Engineer

Sam smiled to herself for a moment, genuinely impressed with the expediency of the Odin’s Chief Engineer. She took a few minutes to scan over the reports, it still amazed her at the incredible firepower of Capital Ships versus fighters… even one’s like the Oddie. After a few minutes, a puzzled expression crossed the woman’s features as she reviewed the Torpedo Report. “Why the frack would any vessel need as many probes as torps…?!” She said out loud to her empty quarters. “That’s ridiculous!” Without a second thought, Halloway tapped her CommBadge.

=A= Tac Chief Halloway to Chief Rosh… if you have time, can you meet me in Torpedo Control in say… an hour?=A=

Halloway, CTO

Lissi was in her office and responded. =^=I’ll meet you there, Ma’am.=^= She was a bit curious what was happening, from the off tone of the CTO’s voice.

A few minutes before the hour was up, the Chief Engineer was in the Torpedo Service room on Deck 36. She walked in to see if the new CTO was here already. “Ma’am?” She called out to see if Halloway had arrived yet.

As Lissi spoke, the tall, striking brunette in an impeccable Tac Gold uniform with Master Pilot wings opposite her CommBadge turned from the panel she was at to greet her. Samantha Halloway moved fluidly and her smile was bright. A thick braid sat just barely reaching her right shoulder. “You must be Chief Rosh…” The woman said in a bright, cool soprano as she offered her hand. “… Sam Halloway. I’m happy I wasn’t late… I was worried I missed you.”

Sam, CTO

Lissi smiled and took the offered hand, shaking it briefly before letting go. “No, not at all. Welcome aboard.” She glanced around the room and back at Sam. “So what brings us down here? I would have happily hosted in my office with a cup of tea, or whatever your preference is.” She smiled once more.

Thankfully, it was almost impossible to tell she was half Klingon. The lack of forehead ridges meant she looked like she was smiling when most Klingon’s looked more frightening when showing pleasure.

Sam smiled warmly. “Actually, I just wanted to get down to the brass tacks of the CTO role here on the Odin. Specifically, I was hoping to go over the Torpedo capabilities of the Odin and any… quirks… I need to be aware of. I hope you don’t mind.”

Halloway leaned against the panel and nodded over her shoulder toward the storage area. “How many boom sticks we currently have aboard?”

Halloway, CTO

Lissi laughed. “Well, that is jumping right in.” She moved to the small console on the wall and tapped in a few commands. As she waited for the results, she glanced back at Halloway. “So we are fitted for 350 boom sticks, as you call them. Fifty are set for quantum, 145 for photon. I believe we aren’t completely full at this point, but at max, we are down maybe half a dozen since full restock. We have some set in reserve. Some are tricobolt and another large chunk are for specialized probes.” She saw the stores and sent them in a file to the CTO’s personal account. “I have sent the actual counts to you along with links to the specs so you don’t have to go thru the system to look everything up.” She leaned on the wall and crossed her arms.

Cocking her head to the side, she let the edge of her lips rise in a slight leer. “Ok, so what did you really want? You could have looked these up on your own. Your clearance isn’t an issue, I al ready checked. And asking the Chief Engineer all the way down here wasn’t necessary, either. So I’ve answered your question. Now why all the secrecy?” She wasn’t mad, but she was certainly on guard. This was a bit off in her mind and she hoped it was merely because Halloway was new and nervous and just didn’t want anyone to think her incompetent because she was asking the CE for help.

On the other hand… asking for specific numbers set off all kinds of alarms in Lissi’s head.
