“My ship …,” Wiz said hesitatingly, “got them from me.” Then looking carefully at Kate, he continued, “we … we … there is no better way to say it. We corner freighters and take what we need.” His pale face continued to look from Kate to Lissi, and then back to Kate. It was clear that he was terrified, not only of them, but also something or someone else.

GM

Okay so you aren’ so innocent, Kate thought but the goal was never to take in a small fish. You always wanted the largest one for your fish story. “Okay, Wiz so you are a pirate. Deal still stands. Let us help you help us. While you might plunder I am going to hazard a guess you are working as a fence for someone. I need to know who you are working for. My guess is the man you are working for is a total arsehat who makes not just your life hell but many others. Its why everyone in the market was so tight-lipped. Can you give us anything?”

Kate O’Neill

The moment that Kate insulted the man he worked for, Wiz became defiant. “He takes care of us! Without him we would have died! Do your worst,” he said with a tremor in his voice. “I’ll never betray my friends!”

GM

Lissi reached out to lay a hand lightly on his arm. “Easy, now… easy. I apologize.” She glanced back at Kate then turned to Wiz. “Forgive me. Most folks we see in your position hold no esteem for their employer. They are treated badly. We didn’t mean to offend. And I, for one, am glad you are not being abused or mistreated, or forced into doing what you do.”

She took a deep breath and considered another approach. Without missing a beat or changing her smile, she nodded. “It actually makes me glad you are in such a good place. We wouldn’t want to make that a bad thing. So let’s figure out something else. Shall we?” She thought for a moment then, keeping her back to Kate because she didn’t want to chance seeing a disapproving glance, she looked square at Wiz. “How about we come up with an exchange? We will offer to help out with real options, instead of scraps. And in return, we can see about getting our tech back so others who aren’t supposed to get it, don’t have a chance. Do you think your leader, or boss, what is you call him? Do you think he’d be open to a talk?”

She wasn’t sure how the Captain, much less Kate, would react to the idea. But she had to say something to keep from losing the kid’s help. And they needed their tech back one way or another.

Kate silently held in a breath as she debated how Calin would react to her offering to use his ship as an asylum HQ and Lissi offering to arm the locals but Calin said get the job done and that is what they were trying to do. If Lissi’s approached worked Kate would back it all the way. “We can get whatever they need,” Kate agreed nodding.

Wiz seemed thoughtful for a moment, as if weighing out what Lissi was saying and offering. “I would like to contact my Captain, but he signalled me that he was leaving. At this moment, I have lost contact with him …”

OOC: Sorry for not posting. I had some family matters to take care of. I will need to take an LOA until Jan 8.

Lissi smiled. “Well, perhaps you can try him again with our communicators. We can perhaps track the signal and see where he went, if you aren’t sure.” She glanced back at Kate. Without realizing it, she was having the same thoughts… What will our Captain say to all this? But it was too far now to turn around.

If she checked with the Odin, the CE and CoS would find out that the ship in question was already disabled and awaiting boarding …

GM

“It’s about time for a check in anyway,” Kate said causally. Maybe if the Wiz saw how laid back her captain was he would relax too. Kate just hoped Calin was as laid back as she was imagining.

Tapping her comm badge Kate smiled hoping it would build more confidence. =/\=Captain Calin=/\= she started the conversation in a tone far more indicative of social call than a professional one. Glancing over at the Wiz and Lissi, Kate nodded with a smile.

=/\=Captain we have made some progress on our away mission. Right now we are in…negotiations.=/\= Kate tone’s was similar to the one where she reported at the end of the night that she gave his two girls an extra cookie before bed when she was babysitting. It was the tone that said she didn’t go against orders but bent them slight to achieve the end goal.

=/\= Our contact,=/\= she was careful not to drop the Wiz’s name just yet publically. Keeping names under wraps was often a huge conveyance of trust in this situations. =/\= has been sharing some information with us however there are concerns about Federation…retaliation…so I have given a few assurances of amnesty and possible asylum if needed.=/\= Kate tried not to cringe as she said the words. Calin was a phenomenal boss that gave wide latitude on the job but he still was the boss. Kate had been on the crew of the Odin for a couple of years now but amnesty and asylum had never come up before. There wa a first time for everything so she waited patiently for her CO to respond.

Wiz moved uncomfortably as Kate spoke.
