“Keep me up to date on the engines, if they kick back on I want to know.” Calin said as he stood up. “What do you take of this situation Commander?” Rivar said as he was curious what his instincts might be. He looked over at Morganna with a terse look.

Before Solark could answer, there was a ping on the Science station. The lowering of the engine power actually caused some form of cloaking device to deactivate. The Odin’s sensors had new scans. The boarded ship was actually the pirate ship that the Odin was chasing.

Lieutenant Veyn blinked a couple times to make sure he was seeing the readings correctly. “Uh, Captain…” he started as he looked up toward the ship on the viewscreen. “They were masking their identification with some sort of cloaking device… The away team is currently aboard the pirate ship we’ve been looking for.”

(Lt. J.g. Veyn, Science)

Solark turned to the science officer, “I have those readings too. We would need to let the away team know in case their attention is away from their tricorders.”

Solark

“We do, but we don’t want them to know we are aware either. Their safety might lay in the balance of the knowledge we have… can we get an encoded message to them somehow? I don’t want an incident if we can avoid it.” Calin asked looking back at his crew.

Calin, CO

As a science officer, Lieutenant Veyn knew a thing or two about tricorders. He kept his gaze on the ship in the viewscreen with anticipation. “Captain, if there’s a drastic shift in the properties of the environment around them, whether natural or otherwise, the tricorders should alert the away team. Now, how subtle they are in their reaction to the warning… that’s up to them. They probably know the same information we do, but… if you wanted to caution them against sharing that awareness with pirate ship’s crew, this would be the time.” Veyn keyed the sensors to monitor for energy weapons discharge on the other ship, half-expecting phasers to start firing any second.

(Lt. J.g. Veyn, Science)

Calin paused as he wondered something for a second as he looked at Veyn. “Alerting is one thing, but I want to be certain they are aware without hoping someone was looking at tricorder.”

=/\= Calin to Lieutenant O’Neill, go to your private channel. =/\= Calin said as he waited for the response.

=/\= Sending you some data, check your tricorders. I just wanted you to be aware of something Shaun had told me, you love Captain Morgan stories; him and his rum and jolly Rogers as he called. Just be aware that our guest really like that same rum as well.=/\= Calin said, hoping the stories her fiancé Shaun had told him would be enough. He was stretching his knowledge on Earth lore right now.

As the fusion engines completely shut down, the pirate ship became completely adrift. Sensor scans showed that the life support was offline and that there were fewer crew members than they had imagined. The ship was only crewed by 25 crew members. Except for the captain on the bridge, they were all either adolescent or pre-adolescent. The ship was controlled only at two areas: the bridge and engineering.

Morganna looked at Calin “I don’t know Captain.” She said “The Romulan Captain is being deceitful and now we have a pirate ship full of children. I won’t say they are innocent at this point.” She said as she tried to focus on the pirate ship for a few minutes to get an idea if the children were in distress or what their situation was.

Just then Lissi came to the bridge. “Wiz, our guest is with security getting a ‘guest tour’ of the ship. Engineering just told me the ship is decloaking. What is going on?” She moved towards the engineering console to see who was there and what the readings were about.

“There seemed to be some form of cloaking device within the ship, preventing the sensors from getting a real reading of the ship,” replied Solark. “When the ship powered down, the deception was revealed.

Solark

“What can you tell me about the ship with the cloaking down, we need new data… power systems, weapons, shields, total lifeforms. Get everything you can.” Calin ordered his team, this was their chance to be ahead of the situation and start formulating a plan to move forward.

Calin, CO

“Captain,” reported Solark, “the cloaking device was adapted for the interior of the ship. What was cloaked was the cargo bay. It was hiding what was inside: the goods what were taken from the freighter. There was also a cloaking device adapted in engineering as well. It was hiding the engines and the identity of the ship. What we have detected regarding the weapons and shields are the real thing. The crew was not behind the cloak. The engine is a repaired singularity drive from a decommissioned warbird.”

Solark

Veyn trained the sensors on the cloaking tech… he was curious who had developed it, which civilization these pirates had obtained it from. Most of their ship was Federation tech, so where did they get the cloak? If there was a bigger faction at work here, he wanted to know.

(Lt. J.g. Veyn, Science)

The scans revealed that the technology was adapted to suit the purpose for the ship. It was not a great invention, just a great engineering feat to try to get the parts to work together … like salvaging parts from different cars to get to make an engine move.

GM

Lissi noticed what Veyn was doing and moved closer. “Focus here,” she pointed to a corner of engineering where the signature of the cloaking device should now obviously out of place in the energy signatures of the ship. “Let’s see if we can make heads or tails of it now that it’s off.” She murmured under her breath that she wished she was on the ship now to see what they had done.
