When the boarding party beamed into the bridge of the captured vessel, they found that there were 9 people on the bridge. The oldest was a human male. He looked most like the captain. He was about 35 years of age and had a day’s old stubble on his face. The rest were young, probably still in their teens. There were five girls and three boys, looking between the age of sixteen and nineteen. They were not armed. They looked afraid. The captain had a steely look on his face but his eyes betrayed the fact that he was afraid.

GM

Paris took a deep breath and closed her eyes as the blue and white swirls coalesced around her body. It was not that she hated transporting. To hate transporters or to be scared of transporting was insane. What Paris always hated with the ‘surprise I am here effect’ beaming into a space created. Sensors, visuals, and scanners could tell you what you were generally appearing in the middle of but it was not like walking into a place. Beaming in meant you were instantly having to take in your surroundings and make judgment calls. Beaming into situations like this was no exception. She opened her eyes and immediately took in the room with her hand near but not on her weapon.

As she took in the room, Paris immediately noted that the age of the group appeared to be more akin to a high school field trip than a rough and tumble band of pirates. The Captain also appeared to be surprise or nervous that they had just popped in. The man had scanners on his ship and the shields were down so it was not like he was completely blindsided that someone was arriving so why did he appear so apprehensive. Maybe it was because the people that appeared were not the ones he was expecting. The decision now was was the captain afraid or relieved when he saw the others on his deck.

Paris glanced at Mason waiting for him to start the introductions.

Paris Carisi

OOC: Still need to know who is in the boarding party …

bump
GM

I can be part of this team

OOC: You could comms the Odin to beam up, reporting that there was nothing else happening. Then request to be part of the boarding party.

Kenson

OOC: Moving things along ....

IC:
“I demand to know what’s the meaning of this?” asked the captain.

GM

OCC: I know I am jumping the gun maybe but I cross-posted to the bridge so Kate and Lissi can be told about the new boarding party. Can I put Kate in here and speed it up assuming Kate at some point was sent a message to join the away team on the ship? If not tell me what you need and I will make it work. FYI....this is a great sim. I am really enjoying it Kenson.

OOC: I just wanted to put a heads up here, Mason was told to take whoever he deemed worthy, so anyone who does want to come just comm him :P

Yes, that is a great idea, James, unless Kenson wants us to split security and if so I am 100% fine putting Kate somewhere else. ~ Kate

OOC: That’s not my call. :) I only set up opportunities. It is up to the CO, etc. to deploy personnel … :)

IC:

Mason was quiet for a moment as he looked over the crew on board the ship, then rested his eyes on the Captain. “I am Commander Black of the Federation Star Ship Odin. We boarded your vessel as part of an investigation into illegally modified Federation weaponry that has been found on the colony, which is notably not a Federation world. I require your full co-operation with my team in resolving this matter.”

Cmdr Black, XO

“We are neither a Federation ship nor are we in Federation space. You are out of your jurisdiction. Your actions are way out of line!” the CO muttered but it was clear to the XO that he was afraid.

GM

bump

Paris gave Mason the slightest of side glances. The XO could be intimidating but she didn’t see anything in his demeanor that would instill fear: Authority yes but fear no.

Lt. Commander Paris Carisi

OOC: Sorry, too quick with the mouse button!

IC: A few younger crew members, looking like they were just in their teens, were defiant looking. The older crew members had uncertainty and fear in their eyes.

GM

Suddenly, one of the back doors opened and a young girl, about 14, came in. Seeing the scene, she screamed and turned and ran out!

GM

~Steven Sigle, CO

Can I join this too

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

OOC: I suppose you could. We would just assume you beamed out of the planet after you finished your meditation.

OCC: I am going to assume you are with us James at this point ~ Kate

Kenson

bump

Mason’s eyes moved from the fleeing girl back to the Captain, and he sighed lightly. “Illegally modified Federation weaponry and us not being in Federation space are precisely why I’m here, nobody has jurisdiction in this area, except the biggest guns.” Now his eyes moved to the viewscreen, and the massive bulk of the Odin.

“We can do this the easy way or the hard way Captain, all I need is your cooperation. Do I have that?”

Cmdr Black, XO

Paris looked at the way the young girl fled and felt a sense of unease. Screaming people leaving a room generally meant they were seeking help and trying to get away. Since no one was chasing the girl, Paris just worried she was running off to get reinforcements.

Lt. Commander Paris Carisi.

The captain looked at the crew on board and took about 5 seconds before he told his crew, “Stand down crew …”

Some of the crew looked shocked, some looked relieved but all of them were fearful.

GM

Kate looked at Wolfe with a wary eye. Normally she was in charge on missions like this but with the XO and Lt. Commander Carisi with them, Kate would just be following orders instead of giving them. In a low voice she whispered to Wolfe, “God I hate when people are scared in a situation. Angry, sad, happy…drugged out of their mind I can deal with but fear makes people unpredictable and they are just kids at that.” She was not telling the other security officer something he didn’t already knew. Wolfe was a seasoned officer and a damn good one.

Kate O’Neill

Wolf whispered back “fear makes humans weak and slow to react. But when the poo hits the fan let’s show him what we’re all about” he said with a wink.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

Kate tried not to smirk at the security humor. People often looked at security types as all brawn and no brain but that was only those not good at their job. Wolfe, like Kate, knew shooting someone was far easier than planning an assault. Tactical took a sharp mind and the ability to read a room and its occupants which was exactly what she and Wolfe were doing. If the poo hit the fan, she and Wolfe would be the ones to get everyone out safe and sound. They would also be the ones to make sure that the impossibly young crew did not get hurt in the process. Kate held her fist up for a fist bump to Wolfe. It was low and subtle not probably noticed by anyone but her and the other security officer.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

Wolf took the fist bump and said “security powers activate” he joked as he went back to his duty

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“What happens now?” asked the captain.

A closer look at the crew would reveal that they were not really adults, except for the Captain. They were not all human. There was a Romulan, a Barzan and a Coridanite among the nine bridge crew.

GM

Wolf saw this and asked “ by any chance is this a generation ship. The ship is passed down down the family line and the families of the crew learn how to maintain its systems” he said to the group.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

The Captain looked to the security officer and said, “No, this ship was constructed in this system by all of us.”

GM

“You did well,” Mason noted as he looked over the Bridge. “Building a Starship isn’t a small feat for a crew of qualified Engineers, let alone a group without the facilities of a fully fledged space dock.”

Taking out a tri-corder, Mason held it up before the Captain. “We need to search the ship for Federation weaponry that shouldn’t be here. Aside from the objection you have already noted and will be recorded in by report, can you help us with why this ship would be indicated as a point of interest before we waste time searching for something you could point us to?”

Cmdr Black, XO

Wolf looked at the team “I have programmed the tricorders to scan for Federation weapon signatures the rang is low so we will still need to scan all decks” he said

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“Go ahead,” said the captain dejectedly, looking apologetically at his crew. “You will find them embedded into our hull and other parts of our ship. Where do you think we got the spare parts to build and maintain this ship.”

GM

Wolf didn’t like the sound of that “ so you admit to The illegal salvage of federation technology and integrated into your ship system that you don’t have any license to build. These are some serious charges” he said out loud. He didn’t like to be The bringer of bad news but the ship was very dangerous this even I kind a want want was installed improperly they would be space dust.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

One of the young crewmembers smiled and pointed out, “What we do here is not illegal as Federation law does not apply here. You cannot use Federation law, that includes the licensing rules, to say that we have done anything illegal here.”

GM

“No, but depending on how you salvaged,” she air quoted the last word to show her sarcasm and to bet them to the point of a semantic debate, “it could be piracy. My colleague was just being polite. We drew straws and he got the role of good cop today which leaves me the role of bad cop,” Kate said with her southern drawl. “Now don’t go getting your knickers in a twist with the word piracy but the only reason we are here was a ship was firing on another ship and once they saw the Odin coming they bolted. Our pursuit of the craft led us here. So even if you didn’t attack the ship in question you are at a minimum in possession of stolen materials.” Shoot and score and the crowd goes wild as the Security dynamos Wolf and O’Neill knock it out of the park she added silently to herself.

Kate O’Neill CoS

“So where did you get the spare parts from to embed into your ship,” Paris asked. At this point, they knew where the weapons were and in a matter of minutes they would know what the weapons were but that still left the how they got them and from who question to answer.

Lt. Commander Paris Carisi

Wolf pulled his tricorder input a few commands and did a fast scan “here it is J Series TA-222.5 regulator they were only made for old Constitution class ships serial number 44836628. According to the database USS: Running Bull NCC 482065-A decommissioned in a decommission field alpha quadrant J3886” he looked up at the young crew “ it is amazing that you claim you did not illegally salvage this but yet it is here“

Ensign James Wolf

The captain of the ship looked enquiringly at Wolf. “As a Vulcan, I hope you know that you have made several assumptions. Does possession of the part mean we intruded into Federation space and salvaged it illegally? That is an assumption, surely?!”

Wolf tried to look for other parts in the equipment on the bridge. The tricorder was able to identify the parts as Federation grade but the parts’ serial numbers were not traceable. The general category number could be determined from the database but not which ship the part came from. The part that Wolf found was the only one that he could determine in the bridge.

GM

bump

Wolf keeping scans going “I am still detective more Federation parts some of them that were sold to civilians and off world companies some are for strict Federation use some parts can only be found in Federation decommissioned yards” he said showing the COS his scan results

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

The parts that Wolf finds were, from the way they were structured, unmistakably from the Federation. However, all identifying marks are no longer detectable. He could not make the case for illegality.

G<

Kate looked at what Wolf’s tricorder was presenting and back at the Captian. Back home they used to say that possession was nine-tenths of the law however in this case it was the one-tenth that was most concerning to her. “Sir,” she directed her comment to the XO more than anyone else in the room although they all could hear her speak. “Wolfe is one hundred percent correct. The parts are unmistakably from the Federation however,” she moved across the room to visually inspect one of the parts they were talking about, “I can’t in good conscious see any visible marks. No serial numbers or ship registries. Heck, I would be thrilled ot even see part of an insignia but without a ship or serial number I can cross-check with our inventory, I can not in good faith say what I am seeing is the comms battery from the USS Lee, USS Atlantis, or USS Talledaga.”

Moving back to Wolf and the group Kate looked at Black. Without a serial number or something to go on I am not sure we can say right now, at this moment, that the parts were stolen, scavenged, or freely traded. I know it is not what anyone wants to hear except maybe the cappy over there but legally all we can do is say they have it. If we are looking to strip it and take it with us is not my call.”

Kate O’Neill COS

Looking at the Captain of the ship, Paris tried another approach. The XO and CO might get mad at her later but sugar caught more flies than vinegar. “Sir,” she addressed the Captian. Your job is to protect the crew. I get that but while you may not have had a single interaction leading to anyone getting hurt or knew that anyone got hurt getting this equipment, people have. If you are the ones out there taking it by force I have just wasted my breath but if not you understand what the position of the crew that it was taken from was in and what possibly happened. We are looking to find the people that are procuring it first and foremost. Is there any information you can give us about how you got it or from who?”

Lt. Commander Paris Carisi Armor

“We get them from the market below. The larger parts are from a scrap yard on the other side of the planet,” said the Captain.

Kate gave the XO a side glance. She and Wolf had been at the market below earlier which led them to the ship. She wasn’t going to give up Wiz but at least the story was following through. “Would there be a way for you to give us the coordinates to the scrapyard,” Kate asked the Captian.

Kate O’Neill COS

The Captain looked defeated. He asked, “May I use our computers to bring up the coordinates?”

<Depending on answer>

The coordinates to the scrapyard were thus obtained.

GM

At this time Wolf knows there is not much he can do but there is laws about purchasing known stolen property. He was thinking about bringing that to the COS attention.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

GM

A search of the ship revealed that there was the presence of some of the rations that was stolen from the freighter they had rescued earlier.

GM

Wolf had his phaser ready to go and had some star fleet hand chuffs ready also( hey COS let’s show them what security can do). James was keeping his eyes on the crew if any one made a move to pull a weapon they will be stunned.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

OOC: The ship has effectively surrended. However, they are not answering the questions adequately. Remember that the ship is crewed with teenagers and most of them are afraid.

GM

Paris nodded to the officer that just spoke softly in her ear. “I know we came in her abruptly but we can be subtle My officer just reported that rations were found from the shuttle that was attacked. We are not taking food from kids,” Paris said softly. “I am hoping the reason you are not forthcoming with your answers is that you are trying to protect your crew. I get it. We,” she getured to Mason next to her, “have a child ourselves. I know your crew sees themselves as adults but we both know they are not. Please help us get to the people that attacked the ship.” Paris waited hoping the captain would give their away team the information they needed.

Lt. Paris Carisi

The words actually caused a marked change in the crew members. There was a look of surprise on the Captain’s face. The look disappeared almost immediately after it was made. “Um … Thanks,” the captain managed to utter.

GM

While this was going on, Lt. Carisi saw an alert on her tricorder. Looking at it, she saw that the ship that they were on had the signature of the pirate ship that they were chasing.

GM

Wolf got the same alert on his tricorder “sir you need to see this”

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

Paris looked at Wolf and gave him a slight head nod. She had no doubts he and Kate could secure the bridge but at what cost to the pirate crew.

Paris Carisi

Kate saw her communicator and a request by Calin to talk. Moving back slightly she tapped her earpiece. “Go for O’Neill,” she said softly.

Kate O’Neill COS

(The plan drop stun grenades and phase stun any one still standing or use the transporters to create a teleport field around us and to Beam sleep agents in to their air supply we will be safe in suspended animation well the crew for sleep sleep peacefully) just a few things I thought about

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

OOC: Is that what was planned? or has it happened already?

GM

(Just planning the cos is not here to confirm)

OCC: I am not saying it is off the table but maybe try to talk first? They are just kids and no one has been hostile I feel like. I missed a cross post by the CO. I have replied to that so let’s see what he says maybe?~ Kate

OCC: We can try talking but kids are unpredictable they don’t like authority tell them what to do and they have been lying to us from the start

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

Bump

IC: The situation was tense. The young crew was looking at their captain who was looking at the away team. As the power failed, the life support would soon be also gone. The crew wondered what was going to become of them.

Bump

The Starfleet tricorders began to detect a loss of energy as the warp engine went offline and the fusion generators began to lose power as well.

GM

Paris looked around seeing the lights dim slightly and the briefly flicker. Looking at Mason she moved towards one of the consoles. “We need to get their power back on,” she said moving slowly but purposefully towards the engineering console. “I need you to help me,” she said to the person sitting behind it. “I know you don’t trust me but we gotta do something to help save the crew and the ship. Will you help me,” she asked the teen behind the console. Mason had far more engineering experience than her but he was in command and needed to work with the CO of the ship.

Paris Carisi.

The teen turned to look at their Captain. He nodded his head. “I am Val. How can I aid you?”

Wolf turned on the light he had on his belt and and faced it upward to light up the whole bridge. “The hell is going on” he said not liking the loss of power.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“Our ship does not store very much fuel, nor power. We collect deuterium to power our fusion engines and to maintain the artificial singularity,” began the captain. “We do not have the state of the art like you. We needed to move out of this colony to get the fuel we need. When you boarded us, you prevented us from replenish our fuel.”

Kate pulled out her tricorder and scanned for power sources. Looking at the reading she frowned. “My readings are saying the warp core is off line and the fusion generators are acting wonky,” Kate announced looking at Mason and the rest of the crew. “I’m not an engineer so someone tell me I am wrong,” she ased hopefully. The loss of power presented far more problems than just freezing to death and not being able to breathe. It meant leaving the ship was going to take a lot of effort to open doors and hatches. They might have shuttles to get them off the ship but without power to open hangar bay doors.

Reaching up she touched her comm badge. =/\=Sir we are losing power here. Can you get a lock on us and the crew if needed=/\= she asked Calin.

Kate O’Neill

OCC: Crossing posting for Steven in this thread his response as CO in my response as the COS.
IC:
=/\= I’ll see what we can do LT, stay tight give us a few moments… we’ll let you know the outcome soon. =/\= said Calin from the Odin’s comm.

“A captain should go down with his ship. I will remain …” the captain began.

GM

Wolf looked at the captain “ Sir I believe your logic is flawed. As captain it is your responsibility to keep your crew together and keep them safe. You willing to go down with your ship well not only result in a loss of life but it will put your crew into a power struggle. So if we are leaving you are coming with us even if I had to stun you and carry you on my back. I am not gonna let you do that to your crew” he said towering over him

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“This has nothing to do with logic … It is called care and concern …” the captain blurted out with a pained expression. A few of the teenagers on the bridge wept a little.

GM

Wolf walk over to your he captain and put his hand on the man shoulder and said “ stop being selfish” With his hand already on the man shoulder he did the Vulcan nerve pinch to make the guy pass out.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“Cheese and crackers Wolf,” Kate blurted out seeing her co-worker employ the incapacitating Vulcan nerve pinch as she dove towards the captain out of instinct. “Where did you go to diplomacy school....Nausicaan U?” Wolf was a Vulcan and while they tended to be logical and analytical, they also did have ways of protecting themselves and their shipmates. Kate’s butt had been saved several times but the neck pinch but right now it felt a bit excessive. Helping set the Captain on the ground, Kate hoped that the man came to sooner rather than later.

Looking up at the crew Kate took a deep breath. There was no way to downplay this but she had to establish some trust with the crew if they were going to get out of this. “Assess and plan,” she announced taking charge. “You,” she pointed to one of the teens at the console. “Can you tell me what the power levels are and if we are leaking any type of radiation and if so is it enough to make me glow in the dark after this?”

“Wolf take over comms and figure out what Calin wants us to do or if they have any more information on how to handle this then we do,” she said.
