Final Goodbye

Posted Nov. 16, 2021, 12:49 a.m. by Commander Morganna Salazar (Counselor) (Tyra Schroll)

OOC: This was probably one of the hardest posts I have ever had to write in my years at STF. I miss our conversations and your words of encouragement. You are greatly missed....

IC: Morganna watched as Rivar packed his duffle and she patted Etak on the back calming him. Rivar had received an urgent message from Trill and he was required to return home. As he put the final items in his bag, he turned to face his wife “Are you sure you’ll be okay while I’m gone?” He asked as he put his hand on his son’s head and leaned down to kiss it, he was worried about leaving Morganna alone, Etak was only a week old and they were still adjusting to having a new baby. Rivar pulled her close and kissed the top of her head and held her for a long moment. Morganna pushed away from him “We’ll be fine. If I need anything, I’ll call Kate.” She said trying to remain positive, she didn’t want him to worry any more than he already was.

Returning his kiss, she looked up into her husband’s eyes “You’re only going to be gone for a couple of weeks.” She said “You’ll be back before we know it. Annnd…” she paused and looked down for a moment “We’ll call every night so the girls can talk to you and you can be involved as much as possible.” She said “We’ll be fine.” She said reassuringly. Rivar sighed and looked at the time piece on the wall “I have to go my love.” He said and kissed her one more time and then slipped out the door and to the shuttle bay. Morganna stood at the door, her hand on the closed door before turning her attention to the tiny infant in her arms.

It didn’t take long for Morganna to realize that something was wrong, they had spoke with Rivar the first night that he was gone and then had not been able to get in touch with him. She contacted Trill and learned that he had not arrived as planned but they had sent out a search party for the last known location of Rivar’s shuttle. It would be another five agonizing days before they called off the search and declared the shuttle missing along with its occupants. There was not indication that anything had happened, there was no debris and no sign of anyone.

Morganna sat on the floor of the room she had shared with Rivar and sobbed, her world collapsing in around her. It was the sound of Etak and the girls that brought her around and forced her to get up and move forward. She withdrew from her crewmates so that they would not see her grief. She finally stepped back into her role as counselor, only there was an air of sadness around her that would take several weeks to dissapate.
