Addie paced outside Garrett’s quarters chewing her fingernail. Anyone walking by would take the gesture as an officer delaying bad news to a more senior officer. The truth was far from that. All Addie had was good news from her perspective. She just had to convince Garrett it was good news. At times he did not see things exactly the way she did. It was not bad. It was just he was from Mars and she Venus. This meant she had to make him uproot his sweet Martian bachelor pad and permanently reside on Venus. The analogy was as old as sex and rock and roll. Men always did things for the women they were interested in. Men were actually simple. They liked a quiet life, dinner, and some personal nightly attention. Woman, however, had the honey-do list which if number one through three did not include quiet, food, and attention in the top spots they sorta zoned out.

Addie was certainly going to fulfill one through three it was number four she really needed and had to accomplish. Letting out a deep breath, she palmed the door console and walked in. It was now never.

Addie Halsey

Garrett’s voice came from the box beside the door. =A= O’Connor… come on in… =A=

A few moments after Addie stepped through the doors into the spacious Captain’s quarters, Garrett from the bedroom wearing nothing but a faded pair of University of Denver sweatpants, a towel draped over his shoulders and slightly damp hair. Seeing Addie, he smiled… walking to her without a word and giving her a deep kiss. When their lips parted, he said softly. “Hey Babe… what brings you up here?”

Garrett O’Connor

“To see you of course,” she returned the kiss with a big smile. “I thought we could spend a quiet night together.” Step one Check, she thought in her mind. It would definitely not be quiet by the time they got to step three but people’s definition of words changed according to their environment. A conductor thought a quiet night at the symphony was one with tubas, trumpets, and drums. Addie just needed to make sure her symphony ended in a breathless performance.

Addie Halsey

Garrett smirked as he finished drying his hair. “I doubt I’ve had a quiet night with you, my dear.” He turned and walked over to his desk, his back still a bit damp from the actual shower in his quarters. Reaching the desk, he hung the towel over the back of the chair and then padded bare foot to the kitchen, smiling over his shoulder at Addie in invitation for her to join.

As Garrett made a cup of tea, he asked with a warm smile. “What did you have in mind?” He asked, turning to face Addie. “Before the workout…” The wink and chuckle made clear his mind was on Step Three as well.

“Something other than that cup of Pidgeon sweat you got there skipper,” she wrinkled her nose up in disgust. “You know I am going to break you of that habit.” Leaning against the cabinet she weighed her options. Confuse him with an endorphin now or later. Since he was already in a good mood, it wasn’t as essential as if he had a bad day.

“Like hell you will Halsey!” Garrett snorted, shaking his head defiantly. “You got a better chance of turning me celibate!” He winked. “And you & I both know that ain’t happenin’!”

“Yes, dear. Just like I can’t find ways to rid you of that nasty tea habit. I rid you of that unfortunate bout into celibacy,” she winked at him. While Addie knew Garrett was never a monk, she did think his nights were far busier after Edin Prime than before.

“Uh huh…” Garrett snickered. “… neither of which I’m walking away from Lieutenant.” He winked.

“I was thinking I could make you dinner. By make I mean replicate but,” she moved behind him and wrapped her arms around his neck resting her chin on his shoulder, “I say we replicate our first dinner. That steak and pasta I still dream about. Just for the record if it was something I could marry you night have a run for your money against it O’Connor.” Kissing his neck she let out a deep contented breath smelling his after shave.

As she leaned in, Garrett had placed the tea on the counter… loosely wrapping Addie in his arms. He breathed softly for a minute but his breathing shallowed slightly, his breath caught for just an instant, and goosebumps peaked on his skin as her lips touched his neck. There were the standard responses to his body as the woman stirred a firey desire within him but he calmed himself as quickly as it appeared. “Replicate, huh?” He asked playfully, his breathing still just a bit unsteady. “You don’t want me to make anything?”

“If not we can have a couple of burgers with everything on it or maybe even make that recipe you sister sent. The one you loved as a kid,” she squeezed him in an impromptu hug.

Addie Halsey, working her magic

Garrett squeezed Addie tightly, breathing in the smell of her hair and enjoying the warm of her against his bare chest. “I wouldn’t be opposed to that. What time ya thinkin’?” He kissed the top of her head.

“Right now. Don’t move,” she said pushing off him and moving towards the replicator. This dog and pony show might take a while and the window of opportunity to convince Garrett to do what she needed him to was small. Luckily the man was a gem about most things. He didn’t call out her half-arsed cooking or the fact that the one drawer he had cleared from her expanded to three and half of his closet. Life with Garrett was good and exciting. Not having their relationship out in the open added a mystery to it and a sense of adventure. It was going to get harder to keep under wraps however the more they spent time in the public eye. It was not hard to miss that Addie seemed to smile and Garrett waffled between openly friendly to more formal. All of these things were the classic signs of someone interested in someone else if you were looking for them.

Standing in front of the replicator, Addie ran through possible dialogue in her head about to bring up the topic. She was so focused on what she wanted versus what she was doing that by the time she looked down, Addie realized dinner was not what she had suggested. Picking up the plates, however, she pressed on as if nothing was wrong. Setting a plate of spaghetti bolognese down instead of the burger, Addie acted like nothing was off as she picked up a fork and took a bite. “So tell me about your day,” she said in a friendly tone with a smile and expression that was slightly too eager to hear he sat on the bridge for 8 hours and just stared at the stars.

Addie Halsey

Garrett walked with a smile as Addie bounced across the room… well, Addie’s butt at least… and then joined her at the table, careful to drape the towel on the back of the chair before picking up a fork. “My day…” He scoffed. “… between trying to get Kate to not get us into a shooting war with a Federation colony to a never ending stretch of meetings on this next mission… it was a cross between mind-numbing nonsense and stark raving boredom.” He laughed. “How about you Babe?”

Garrett O’Connor

“I am so much better since you got home. I missed you,” she kissed his cheek with far more exuberance than necessary. Roughing up his hair, Addie moved towards the bedroom. It was only a few minutes but she exited the room wearing a tank top that was almost too small and a pair of running shorts that were cut like boy shorts. “Okay now for dinner,” she moved next to the replicator and lazily dragged her toe up her calf as she half leaned on the cabinet waiting for the mean to be replicated.

Addie Halsey

Garrett found himself more than distracted by Addie’s legs… as he always was. Though, after a moment, his mind returned from much more… inappropriate… places and to the here and now. Slipping off his tunic and hanging it on the back of his chair, Garrett smiled a roguish smile and asked. “So… what brings you up to my neck of the woods, my dear?” He winked playfully at the woman that had so quickly become the center of his very existence. “Not that I’m complaining Angel… just more… curious.
