Having decided that the Asimov wasn’t the right ship for her, Nerira had decided to request a transfer and had been assigned to the USS Odin. Leaving the Asimovon her racing ship the Razorwing, Nerira had spent the last sixteen hours at high warp and now the Odin was on her sensors. She was ready for a shower, some rest and some food.
Dropping out of warp she opened a channel, “lieutenant Akanar to Odin, requesting permission to dock”
Waiting for a response from the other side, she began the drive shutdown procedure.

-Lt Akanar CSO

“Lt Akanar, welcome to the Odin,” came the voice of an Operations Officer through the comm system. “You are cleared to dock, we have been expecting you. Nice ship by the way. Once docked and secured, and you have stowed your kit in your quarters, the Executive Officer is available in his Office.”

NE Operations

“Thanks, she is quite the ship. See you aboard soon, Akanar out”
The soft whirring of the drive dropped in pitch until it was silent until all she could hear was the white noise of the thrusters guiding her in on the auto dock procedure.
She breathed a sigh of relief as soon as she felt the jolt that meant she had touched down. She had always been intimidated by traveling in the Razorwing for long amounts of time because it wasn’t equipped with weapons.

leaving the shuttle bay, Nerira located a ship directory and located her quarters where she dropped off her belongings before heading to the XO’s office. Ringing the chime she waited for an invitation to enter. It was too late when she realized she had forgotten to change out of her flight suit and into uniform, she hoped the commander wouldn’t mind too much.

-Lt. Akanar CSO

“Who is it,” a voice called out from behind the door. Aside from the tone sounding extremely young, the greeting was far from normal. Generally, officers were greeted with the customary responses of come or enter when they rang the chimes of an office. This response sounded more like the individual behind the door of a residence instead of an office.

Harper Black

Failing to notice the strange greeting She responded, finding it only a little odd that she was presumably talking to the XO through his office door, “Nerira Akanar, the new CSO. I just arrived and I was told I could find the XO here?”

-Lt Akanar, CSO

“Yes this is the XO’s office,” the voice said. “Do you have an appointment?”

Harper Black

beginning to doubt that she was actually talking to the XO she responded, “Umm… No… I just arrived and-”
suddenly it clicked, She knew from reviewing the personnel files that Commander Black was married, and his wife was aboard the Odin as well. Nerira had also failed to notice, until now, that the person she was talking to sounded extremely young. Figuring that she had enough evidence to assume she was talking to the commanders kid she tried a different approach, “Is your dad around, I just landed and need to talk to him?”
I must really need some sleep, I haven’t been here ten minutes and I have already made a fool of myself

OOC: Click! I think I got it, because I went digging around in the MOTD and couldn’t find a Harper Black listed anywhere. Your Characters Daughter I assume?

-Lt Akanar, (a very tired) CSO

OOC: 10 points. He shoots he scores :) Harper is the XO’s kid. She is four. ~. Kate

Harper thought the person on the other side of the doors question and pulled one of pony tails around chewing on the end as she thought about her answer. Her mom and dad told her never to say she was alone even if she was. This presented a problem because she wasn’t at home but she was alone. Her dad always said he had an open door policy at work so that meant she should open the door. Spitting out the end of her ponytail she came up with a plan.

“The executive officer is on the potty,” she repeated the sentence her mom made her memorize. “But,” she had a hopeful tone. “You can come in if you know the secret password.”

“If I tell you it then it won’t be a secret but,” she replied back in a thoughtful tone, “it’s somefing I eat with peanut butter and jelly.” The secret word was peanut butter and jelly sandwich and once he said it Harper decided it would be okay to open the door. Crossing her fingers and closing her eyes, she hoped the person on the other side knew it. It was so much fun meeting new people and since the person knew the word that meant they were part of the crew. The crew was like a big family so Harper was hoping as hard as she could the person blurted the word out so she could be the first one to meet them.

Harper Black

“Sandwich. Peanut butter and jelly sandwich.” she said opening her mind to the thoughts of the person on the other side of the door.
“Now, Harper, I presume? Do you know where the XO really is? Dont worry, I’m new here and I just need to talk to him.”
the door still had not opened to admit her and Nerira was exhausted from her trip, any other time and she would love to engage in Harper’s games. However, because she was only four, Nerira felt the necessity to cooperate if for no other reason than that dealing with an upset four year old would be worse.

-Lt Akanar, (exhausted)

Letting out a happy sigh, Harper smiled from ear to ear. “You,” she said followed by a loud thump, “know the password,” followed by a second rhythmic thump. “One second please,” she said polite followed by a third thump as the door magically opened. From the way Harper’s socks had slid down to her ankles and with the CSO’s extensive skills at creating hypotheses, it would be easy to deduce that girl had been jumping up trying to reach the control panel to open the door. It was not so high that she couldn’t reach it by jumping but like more things in the adult world, it was just out of easy reach for someone her size.

“Please come in,” Harper made a sweeping gesture far more dramatically than her mother typically did but within the same gesture family. “Commander Black will be returning shortly. Take a seat anywhere you want.” Not waiting for the person to refuse, Harper ran with all the youthful exuberance to the replicator and stood on the small step stool before it. =/\= Computer two glasses of milk and some oreos please.=/\= Harper clearly was at the stage of starting to be allowed to use the replicator but demonstrated the manners of someone still used to be served things rather than serving them. =/\=Thank you computer.=/\= she stated taking the tray and moving with the skill and dexterity of some that was her age. Only a small amount of milk sloshed over the edges of the cup as she looked to see where Akanar had decided to sit.

“Yes bossman,” she said, following Harper in, Nerira smiled at the girls enthusiasm, which was apparently contagious, because as soon as she sat down she immediately felt less exhausted.

“We are so excited to have you aboard. The Commander will be here any minute but take a seat and tell me about yourself. Was the trip hard to get here?” The wording was very odd for someone of Harper’s age but it was odd to have your father as second in command of a floating city in space. It was clear that Harper had at least heard Mason say these things in some form but was just adapting it the best she could to try and pretend she was also an officer in Starfleet. It was clear Harper was taking this job of greeting Akanar very serious and wanted to do a good job making the CSO feel welcome.

Harper Black

“Please sit down if you would like Ma’am” she tottled her way over to the small area for sitting and set the tray down.

“You know, as a matter of fact the trip here kept me quite busy…” Nerira considered her words carefully so Harper would understand, “I used to race spaceships in big races, and I have my own spaceship that goes very fast. much faster than even your dads ship. but to go that fast I have to watch the ship very closely and very carefully the whole time. But just between you and me…” she said, lowering her voice.

Harper’s eyes grew wide at the sound of racing starships and the person in front of her suddenly was part hero and part idol. Leaning in as the woman lowered her voice, Harper began randomly trying to dunk the cookie in the air trying to find the cup of milk but so focused on the woman, she didn’t want to take her eyes off her. “I can keep a secret,” she said so eagerly it might have been comical. Harper was acting like the woman was about to tell her the secrets of the universe and she was ready to hear and keep them safe. “I keep it much better than my Daddy who breaks the second my Mom asks who ate the rest of the cake before dinner. You can tell me anything but my dad tells my mom everything.” Finally finding her glass, Harper dunked the cookie and said “You can go on,” trying to match the low tone the woman was using.

“I was so tired after getting off my ship that I totally forgot to change into uniform. Just dont tell your dad and with any luck he wont notice.” She winked at Harper, a mischievous grin on her face. If the xo was relaxed enough to let his daughter act as his receptionist then he wasn’t likely to be the kind to crack down hard about something minor like that.

“Oh,” she said in a surprise tone. “You look wonderful. Your boots are shiny and your shirt doesn’t have kool aid all over it so you look wonderful. He will be happy,” she nodded encouragingly. “I think you look,” her voice trailed off as she tried to think of what her dad would say to her mom when she was if something was noticeable or looked okay. “You look gorgeous.” Smiling she knew this would be the best thing to say. It always made her mom smile and when they had to go to the boring dinners with the captain and other adults. Most of the adults said this to the other adults and kissed them during these events so it must be what adults say to each other to make them happy. Harper hoped so because she wanted the new person to feel happy.

“You are very good at this, does the commander always let you welcome the new officers on board?”

-Lt. Akanar (A little less exhausted, but still really, really tired)

“Yes,” she said and then bit her lip. “Okay no but I really like to. The Odin is a great ship. We have the best ice cream and the best captain but my dad is really the one in charge,” she said nodding her head. “He is what my mom calls the real man in charge because he has to run everything. He tells people where to go and what to do so that Mr. Garrett doesn’t have to. Mr. Garrett and my dad are best friends. I know that because they spend a lot of time together. My dad calls it staffered meetings but I think they have to do something else like kickball or baseball or legos. My dad says last week they were rebuilding the damn hobo e-sitters.” Harper wasn’t sure that was what it was called and the science chief would be savvy enough to figure it was holo emitters and not vagabond babysitters.
