“What are they getting themselves into?” Sam said thinking aloud to himself. Weir was in the middle of ordering dinner at the food replicator, the next thing he knew the ship went to yellow alert and the food lay half made on the replicator. “…how many years and they still can’t prevent that from happen?” Captain Weir gave up on dinner and moved over to where he set his luggage and began to unpack. Truth be told, the man wasn’t sure what to expect anymore. One moment he was on an assignment on OED V, and the next Sam was being told he had a son. Luck surely was against him as Sam had led a careful life only to be told he had a child with a person whose name rang a faint bell.

Samuel paused for a moment as he placed the last of his belongings away. Part of him was curious as to what was going on outside of his quarters, but the other half of him didn’t care. Starfleet had placed him on unassigned status, so while he could investigate Sam didn’t have any official capacity to do so. His only real concern was, and should be, to finally meet the child he didn’t know. But still part of him wanted to slip into his uniform, and he might just will if the moment required.

Sam let that thought leave his mind as he checked the time. “Only an hour left…” He muttered to himself, slightly anxious of the grand meeting. Weir was a dedicated officer, yet afraid of meeting his own son for the first time. Certainly he was more annoyed, or angry, at the fact that someone would hide a child from him. Samuel paused for a moment as he gauged the crew’s emotions. Most were on a sense of alert while some, probably the civilians aboard, didn’t seem too worried about the current operational stance. Sam threw open another bag and took out one of his uniform. He let out a small chuckle when he spotted the small hole on the pant leg from his time on the Viking. Weir began wondering if they ever did get that ship fixed up, or did the computer finally kill everyone off. Placing it off to the side, Sam picked out his other uniform and pondered a moment.
