IC: As Chase and Ollie got split, Ari went straight for two kilometers before encountering the farm gate. It wasn’t that fancy, either too much technological, it was some sort of old ranch of the 50s of south Dakota or in the Texas.
“Heyo? Someone’s here?” He shouted to call attention from the occupants as he put in the tricorder in its casing.

“Yes,” a very suave gentlemanly voice sounded out. A middle aged man, probably in his late forties emerged. He was dressed with a long sleeved creamed coloured shirt but no tie. He also wore had overalls over the shirt. His shirt sleeves were rolled to just below his elbows. He had dark hair and very slightly pointed ears. Not pointed enough to be Romulan but his facial features bore great resemblance to the Romulans,. “Ah! Starfleet, I presume. What can I do for you?”

Ari immediately checked behind the man, like he was somewhat curious of the farmland that the Romulan-like man had behind, and when he realized the question he composed himself and formally started a dialogue “oh Good afternoon, Mr....?” He didn’t knew the name of the Farmer

“Well I am here as you assumed under jurisdiction of the UFP and Starfleet. I am here to investigate this place. Would you be that gentle to respond to some question about this place?”
The Lieutenant asked to the man.

“If I can help,” the man replied, “I will answer your questions.” The man did not smile but Ari could clearly see emotions pass through his face. He was definitely not Vulcan but the ridges on the forehead that was characteristic of the Romans were not as pronounced.

OOC: The word was supposed to be Romulans. I guess spell checker did the damage.

IC:

“Alright let’s start with the basis..” the Lieutenant resumed “uhm, let’s see, so wow this place is beautiful but may I know when have you settled here? Also if you have ever noticed something weird happening on this town. I don’t know, some sort of black marketing, science experiments, plasma balls?” Ari was pretty much confused of what to ask.

The man’s face darkened a little. “I settled here 20 years ago. This is an independent colony. Where the market is concerned, there is only one rule: If it brings trouble for the colony, it should not be marketed. As to the other things you mentioned, There are inventors in the town, there will always be science experiments there. I have not seen any warbirds the whole time I am on this farm. I have not seen any plasma weapons or ammunition.”

As the Man said said things, Ari noticed the changing face of his and got an eyebrow up “20 Years, right?” he repeated looking at the dude “You don’t mind if I do a control nearby your properties? It will be quick…” Ari asked taking the tricorder, and preparing mentally to take the phaser as he was not sure to be safe there.
For some reason, something smelled bad for the Lieutenant and had difficulty to believe 100% the colonist.

The man lifted his arms in a gesture of helplessness. He had not given his answer and the Starfleet officer had begun to scan his farm.

Ari found that there were two other people on the farm, they were in the house. Both were female and one was the size of a pre-teen humanoid. The scans showed that it was a normal farm except in one corner of the house there was a considerable store of isolinear chips. There were at least 70 of them.

“Uh. What we got here…” Ari gently asked to enter the man’s house “what about these chips? Oh hi! They are your daughters?” He asked to the man as he looked and took one of the chips “sorry if I am that invasive but protocols dictates that I must recover as much datas as possible. It will not take a lot if you collaborate.” The CSO apologized

At the same time, Chase was filled with vegetation everywhere. He wasn’t sure if it was the place that was that scary or the fact that the only tricorder was doing weird sounds. “Well… what to do?”

As he moved gingerly through the vegetation, wondering what to make of it, his foot suddenly sank into a sinkhole. The foot stopped about 10 centimetres into the hole. It felt damp and there was liquid seeping into his trouser leg. Looking down, he found himself staring at his right foot ankle deep in some kind of black mud.

“Oh jesus, not like this.” Chase tempted to free his leg and put the tricorder on the edge of the sinkhole. It did not take too much time to realize that he was really in trouble. Soon or after the night would have come and he still was stuck inside that hole with the nasty smelling liquid
“Alright, what is this?” He took again the tricorder and started scanning the liquid-like stuff.

=/\= This is NE Chase, I’m sending you some datas about a liquid that… trapped me. Can you check it and determine whether it is mud or something else… ugh this stuff stinks.=/\= Chase called the Odin.

The tricorder said that what he was standing in was a compost pit that included the waste matter of herbivorous animals. It was compost and manure …

“Oh no…” Chase almost puked “I need to get out of here… jesus.” As he laid down the hard land, Chase remembered how to get out from the liquid sand. Maybe the concept would have worked the same in a pool of manure “Alright. One,” he started counting “two,” he then relaxed the leg “three! Come on!” And started pulling. Slowly and steadily, Chase started to crawl the lands but not for long as he was out of breath.
“Oh… ugh…”

=/\= Odin, this is Chase… Uh, I would love some assistance, I am stuck in some Manure pool. Please respond!=/\=

“What’ya doing there?!” cried a woman’s voice. “Unless you be a plant that needs food, you should not be standing there!” A blond haired woman in her thirties was the owner of the voice. She was dressed in overalls but it did not hide the fact that she was good-looking.

“OH Jesus!.” Chase shouted in fear “Girl, you made me had a bump… wait a second.” He looked better to the woman look. She seemed familiar but could not recall her appearance. As Chase was stuck and someone was actually there, he sat on the ground where he could and leant a hadn’t “Could you perhaps help me get out of here?” asked gently the NE “You seem to someone I know. Yeah like my mother! it is silly.” he commented at the end.

“Now that is down right rude!” the woman said indignantly. ‘I am probably just a few years older than you. Remind you of your mother! I have a mind to leave you here … Then she paused, as if thinking about something, “If I help you out, could you help me move a few things?”

“Ahahah…” Chase giggled nervously “Sorry, it is just… your face.” He looked over the girl background blushing of embarrassment “So let me think… what kind of things? I mean I would certainly love to help ya but uhm… not stuck here.” He asked and said with a smiling face, still a bit suffering for the intense odor.

Ollie, instead, got into the poor districts full of gents that seemed from various kind of wealth. And so he was looked by everyone when he walked through them with those fancy uniforms and tricorder in hand “Jesus…” Ollie whispered into the nothing.

Although he did not hear anything rude from the people around him, he definitely felt stared down from behind. One of the gents came up to him and said, “Looks like you’re lost or something. Who are you looking for? Where are you headed?”

GM

Ollie was scared when one of those poor talked behind him, making him jump and make the tricorder slip from his hands “Oh no. This is some precious stuff.” He immediately went taking the device on the ground. After he stood up, he looked around and saw this young-man.
“W-who are you? No I don’t need help, I guess.” He was confused “Uhm… now that I think, can I ask you something about this place? I am an officer of Starfleet. I am here for some investigation stuff. Meh, I didn’t even wanted this job.” He questioned the man

The man smiled. “What do you want to know?”

GM

“Oh man, uhm.” Ollie was still confused “Alright, do you perhaps remember the first time the town was built? For this survey we are searching for something out of the normal as we think there’s something on this planet that may explain the presence of a protectorate…” the NE asked with the tricorder in hand, still recording stuff.

The man, who looked like he was in his twenties said, “I was born here. I heard that the first settlers were here more than 60 years ago. In school, I learned that our forebears wanted freedom from the red tape of the large empires and so settled here.”

GM

“Interesting…” Ollie looked around a bit bothered by the sun “Hmm… Tell me something more about this place development history. Do you perhaps know of some weird black market thing? Or I don’t know… some weird events.” Ollie kept scanning everywhere around the nearby.

“The market’s the market,” replied the man, sounding a little offended. “Here at the colony, we do not have many regulations regarding selling and buying. So long as we ain’t dealing with things that harm the colony, we can trade. Them platforms in the sky can tell if someone brought the wrong thing here. The security guys would appear and get rid of the offending material. Anyways, there is no black market or white market. Everything that can pass through is traded here.”

GM

“Jeez man. Calm, I was just asking…” Ollie put again the tricorder in its place “If you say so I must believe you… anyway, I forgot the way to return to the market, could you… you know indicate me the most direct and faster way?” There was something about the young man that Ollie suspected. Maybe it was his behavior but certainly if they were there, it was not because they were good folks.
