Able went with Simmons but heard Lissi. “Do as you are told, Lieutenant. No more push back. Thank you.” and he turned his attention to the man.

Simmons had second degree burns on half of his face, and Abel went to work on that as Jovat began to look at the eye. In a low voice, the Vulcan said “Ensign, you have a sever burn to your cornea. The conjunctiva is ok, but we will need to operate on your eye to save it. Do not worry. It is a simple procedure and I have no doubt you will make a full recovery.”

Able heard the diagnosis and said “Doctor, go ahead and prepare surgical suite two. While you do the procedure, I will repair the facial injuries.” and he patted Simmons’ arm. “A few days and you will never know it happened by looking at you, Ensign. You are in good hands.” and the nurse gave him a sedative and Simmon’s faded out.

As Jovat prepared, Able went to Lissi. ” Lieutenant. Let’s see that hand, shall we?”

Lissi sighed and laid down. Her legs were immediately propped up and her hand pulled off to the side by the nurse as the Doc showed up. She smiled and shrugged. “So I’m guessing engineering consoles aren’t meant to be used as cooking devices?” She tried to laugh as the nurse began to unwind the makeshift bandage. Thankfully, the cloth, while not sterile, at at least been relatively clean. It was sticking to the inside edge of the palm of her hand where the worst of the burn could be seen in a pattern of the coax connection she had wrapped her hand around.

Able looked at the wound and said to the nurse “Soak with sterile water and loosen the bandage. Then sedative and debridement. Dermal regenerator for… four hours should do it.” and then he looked at Lissi. “No… no they are not.” he answered with a smile. “Now. Did you or the Ensign ever lose consciousness? Did either of you fall or get thrown by the shock?”

Lissi thought for a moment. “No, I don’t think so. And we were both under the table. Simmons must have stuck the coax in wrong ‘and’ crooked to end up with the short and the sparks that sent me under to join him. I reached up to grab it and pull it free to keep the sparks from creating a fire. NE Jenkins pulled him free then me. I didn’t lost consciousness. And Simmons was awake when I sat up to see to him when I was done.” She hissed slightly as a hypo was pressed to her neck and sighed as the pain in her hand started to subside.

Abel nodded and said “Ok. Thanks you. Try to rest. A few hours and you’ll be fine.” and he moved away to attend to Simmons.

Lissi nodded with a slight smile. “Yes, Doc.” She laid her head back and let the nurse work on her. Between the drop of adrenalin and the pain killer, she dozed in and out. She woke slightly as the dermo regen was placed on her, but without anything to afterwards but wait, she dozed off again.

A gentle voice said “Lieutenant? Lieutenant? I need you to wake up. You’re finished. How do you feel?” and the nurse helped her sit up.

Medical

She sat up and stretched slightly before remembering her hand and drawing it back into her lap. Wriggling her fingers she smiled. “Tired and drained. But no more pain except in my head. Probably lack of food and not a lack of excitement.” She smiled and nodded towards the other beds. “How’s Simmons? He going to be ok?” There was genuine concern in her voice as she moved to swing her legs over the side of the bed, all ready to go and check on him herself.

The nurse smiled and put a hand on the Engineer. “Whoa whoa whoa… not till the Doctir says you can move around. He’s currently with Ensign Simmons and will be here shortly.”

A moment later a figure emerged from the shadows of the darkened medical space. Abel looked at her and smiled. “Ah, good to see you awake, Lieutenant.” and he pulled a PaDD from his coat pocket and made a few notes as he looked at the scanner. Setting it aside on the bed, he lifted her injured hand up and looked and then ran her through a series of range of motion and strength tests. “So how does it feel?”

She moved her hand and shook her head. “No pain. I can feel a bit of stiffness, but I’m sure that’s normal.” She watched him for a moment. “How’s Simmons?” She touched his arm to make him stop a moment. “Abel, please… is he gonna be ok?”

He put his hand on hers and smiled and said “He’s fine. Recovering nicely. He has a new synthetic lens in his left eye, but that is all the lasting damage. You can go see him, if you like. Just dont let him raise his head for a bit.” He motioned back into the shadows. “Sorry for the lights. It’s two o’clock in the morning.” and he laughed.

Lissi let out a sigh of relief that even surprised her. “Thank you.” His hand on hers made her feel better. “I’ll see him in a moment. You said two in the morning? Why’d you let me sleep so long? Was something else happening this evening?” She smiled softly. “My guess is you haven’t eaten, have you?” She looked at him with her head cocked slightly as if she was daring him to say otherwise.

“I have. And you needed the rest, you were in shock. Now go see Simmons and then go to sleep. I will come by Engineering tomorrow to see how you are faring, ok?”
