Michael walked out of the turbolift and launched into a speech to his team. “Alright folks. We are going to do the impossible. We’re going to remote startup a Pendragon class ship and get her to matching altitude and orbit with the Olinski. She’s running on backup power right now. Everyone, I want you getting ready to cold restart a warp drive without touching it. Alright. Let’s go.” He turned to one NE. “Not you Lennon. You’re with me, getting her prepped.”

They walked to a pair of computer terminals and sat down. “Ok. Hook into that probe we dropped and then link it to the Dragoon. I’ll get step one ready.” Lennon hesitated. “Y-yes sir.” He slowly started inputting commands. “Pick it up Lennon. We only have a couple minutes to get shields up.” He looked over at the young man. “I could’ve picked anyone in this department to help me do this. I picked you. Come on. Third in your class at the Academy? You can rig up a probe.” The duo went back to work.

“Ok sir. Signal sent.”
“Time to see if the Dragoon picks up.”

Damnit.” Timing. Perfect timing. “Lennon. You’re up again. You’re going to meet the Captain.” Michael had learned a long time ago that when a completely insane plan had to come through, best left to the Chief. He grabbed a PaDD and quickly typed out a shorthand report. “Let everyone else do the talking, except the Engineering questions and you’ll be fine. Watch the other officers. Try to look something resembling confident. If asked why I didn’t come, explain what we’re doing.” The young officer nodded. “Yes sir.” He moved off.

“Shaw!” A young human woman approached. To look at her, this must’ve been her first assignment out of the academy. “Yes sir!” She was ambitious. “Sit down. We’re using our signal probe to remote hotwire the Dragoon. It takes two. Align the probe to send a signal, I’m going to try to raise the shields.” The Ensign sat down and set to work. A few moments later she said. “Ready sir.”

“Here goes.” He sent the ‘shields up’ command.

=/\=Um. Lieutenant. Maybe you should come up here. Sir. I, um, that is, the XO isn’t thrilled you’re not here.=/\= Michael sat, stunned, for a second before muttering “Jesus god in heaven. One job. You had one job.” =/\=Fine. Fine. Hold the fort until I get there. If asked, my displeasure can be made very clear Ensign.=/\=
=/\=Sir. I don’t know how to tell you-=/\=
=/\=You didn’t have the foresight to leave the briefing room? I don’t have time to bite your head off right now. Remind me to do it later.=/\= He looked over at Ensign Shaw. “This is your show now. Shields up, impulse power, bring her up. In that order. Got it?” She nodded. “When Lennon gets back, send him to my office.” He stood up, straightened his uniform, and moved for the turbolift.
