The doctor discovered that the child’s auditory nerves were damaged by some past accident. The auditory implant was not merely replacing the nerves but was translating the sound into electrical impulses that stimulated the brain. In other words, the implant took the sounds and translated them into meaningful nerve messages. Whatever did not have meaning was simply interpreted as sound. The microwaves that had somehow changed the behaviour of the people were not effective because the implant did not perceive it and the sound that accompanied it was simply a sound.

“One sec, Stephanie.” The Counselor said as he stepped to the side, giving himself some distance to call the Bridge.

=^=Captain, it appears there is a weapon that is capable of using mind control.=^= Trevor said as he took a glance at the girl sitting on the bio bed. =^= Stephanie, confirmed that everyone started acting strange when they heard a certain sound, and that the destruction of the emitters will also turn off the mind control.=^=

CNS

=^=The question is then if the emitters are down in the danger past or do they have smaller units of the same? Something we can only know if they get down there. Anyway to block it?=^=

OOC: Note: Stephanie’s answer regarding her parents were very significant as are the experiences of Lt. Primage who knew what was happening but could not control her hands. I believe she did explain it, did she not?

GM

OOC: It sounds like rather than “mind control” we’re talking “body control.” The subject seems to know exactly what’s happening but can’t do anything but go along for the ride. The vibrations from the microwave emitters seem to cause this but will hearing protection be enough or could the vibrations affect the aural nerves by entering from the spine?

Jason Harn, XO

OOC: That’s it. If the microwaves did not use the auditory nerves, then Stephanie would be affected, right? So …?

After Trevor had finished his report to the bridge Doctor Clint walked up beside him. “While examining our patient here I discovered that she had surgery in the past,” he informed the counselor quietly. “Her auditory nerves have been replaced by an auditory implant that translates vibrations into electrical impulses that are passed on to the brain. That’s why the microwave attack had no effect on her. When the microwaves set up those mind control vibrations in her inner ear her implant simply interpreted them as sound. You might say something was lost in the translation. I suppose we could get hearing protection for the landing party, special earplugs that have transceivers that link with the combadges. That way they’ll still be able to hear and communicate as long as their combadges are working.”

Doctor Clint, M.D.

The Counselor looked over at Stephanie and sighed. “She sure has been through a lot.” Trevor said quietly to himself, out of earshot of the young girl. Lieutenant Michaels waited for the Captain’s response before continuing on with Stephanie. Hopefully, he’d be able to take her to the lounge for ice cream before meeting up with the Captain.

“If you’re done with the patient, I’ve have a nurse give her a change of clothes and perhaps a bath,” Clint murmured softly to Trevor. “Hopefully, trace elements on her clothes, hair, and skin will give us some idea of the surroundings she and her parents were in and provide clues to where to start looking for them.”

Doctor Clint, who has obviously read too many detective novels.

“Have the nurse feed her as well.” The Counselor replied. The Lieutenant wanted to catch up with the mission while Stephanie was being tended to by one of the nurses. “I’ll drop by in an hour to see how she’s doing.”

CNS

“Will do,” Doctor Clint replied.

Doctor Clint, M.D. in a shameless filler post because R Smith is late posting.
