“Koizumi, contact the Turcio and Gould,” Jason ordered the young man at the Dragoon’s communications console. He had intended to give the duo more time to explore before backseat leading them but right now he needed something to get his mind off the stomach turning scenario he had envisioned.

“Channel open sir,” Ensign Koizumi replied.

“Thank you Koizumi,” Jason nodded. =^=Dragoon to away team, what’s your status? Have you anything to report?=^=

Jason Harn, XO

=/\=The ship’s gone dead. Just just like how we found the Dragoon. I have eyes on three fusion generators. Hopefully I can get this rig started again.=/\=

-Lt Michael Gould, CE

=^=Understood, Mister Gould,=^= Jason replied. =^=Contact us when you have an update. Dragoon out.=^= So far, the evidence was favoring Harn’s hypothesis. A depowered spaceship wasn’t going to be powering a mind controlling weapon or operating robots. It would, however, explain the presence of the primitive ‘natives’ who were victims of the mind controlling technology as much as the Dragoon’s people. That theory could be confirmed or debunked when Gould and Toro had restored power and could check the medical records and compare the DNA of the derelict’s crew with the inhabitants of the planet.

In the meantime, Jason couldn’t help thinking about the risks Toro and Gould could face once power was restored to the abandoned spacecraft. Would decades if not centuries of neglect make the warp core unstable? Would restoring power to the main computer trigger any security systems? Unable to do anything but fret Jason leaned forward and gave an unnecessary order to assure himself that every precaution was being taken. “Keep an eye on the power readings, Suvok,” he instructed the young Vulcan sitting at the ops station. “If the ship’s core is unstable or their life signs are unstable, be prepared to beam them up at the first sign of trouble.”

It was a redundant order, the kind officers issue to make it look like they were doing something. Jason hadn’t even been specific enough to instruct Suvok to beam them up at the first sign of trouble. He simply told him to get ready, and that was exactly what the greenblooded ensign was already doing when Jason gave an order just to hear his own voice. Suvok, bless him, gave no sign of irritation but simply replied with a professional “Aye-aye Commander. Scanning the derelict ship now.” Not a single sign of discomfort disturbed the pointy eared operations officer’s placid and unruffled demeanor. Small wonder that Terrans and Vulcans had been so close for over three centuries.

Jason Harn, XO

OOC: Great writing as usual!!

Kenson

OOC: Thanks! Hopefully the away team will call back soon so I’ll actually have something to write.

Finally, the away team checked in:

=/\=Gould to Harn. The ship is Iconian. I can probably get her 100% up and running, but do we want to? We have computer access.=/\=

-Lt Michael Gould, CE

=^=Iconian?=^= Jason answered. =^=Hold on there Gould. If you have computer access, see if you can find out what the Iconian ship’s mission was first. We don’t want to unleash an uncontrollable super weapon on the Galaxy.=^=

Jason Harn, XO, erring on the side of caution

=^=Captain Parker to Harn. Please update your situation. Were at a crossroads here and we need to know what this ship plays in this all and if it can help.=^=

Parker CO

=^= Hold on Gould, I’m getting another call,=^= Jason informed him. =^= Call you back. Harn out.=^= He pressed a button on his armrest. =^=Harn to Parker,=^= Jason hailed his commanding officer. =^=Captain, Mister Gould reports that the ship is Iconian! I’m no expert in ancient civilizations, but if memory serves it just might have the technology to have caused all this. My away team has computer access now. Should they power the ship up?=^=

Jason Harn, XO, rephrasing last post

=^=Standby by Commander.=^=

Parker CO

After a minute passed.

=^=Go ahead and fire it up as safely as possible.=^=

Parker CO
