It was evident from the tricorder scans that the structure had used replicator technology. However, raw materials seemed to have come from the planet itself. Yet the programming for the drones did not include transport technology. It was as if the technology could not handle the replicating of bio-organic matter.

GM

The Andorian noted the readings. Was the technology really native to the planet? If so, who was really behind everything… it couldn’t be those natives on the surface.

COS Ch’zaolrirh

“Someone not from the surface has been living down here. Probably for a while.” Ael looked around. Walking back to Ch’zaolrirh, he said “What if this isn’t native, but it isn’t new? Somebody found a nice place to settle down a while ago and we’re just finding it now.”

-Lt(j.g.) Ael Khev, Apex

Papa Bear tugged at his chin. “Or maybe, I am thinkink, natives are ancestors of people that built complex, da?”

Papa Bear (pilot)

The COS nodded, “perhaps we can try to see how long its been since the equipment was originally repli…”

They heard a small sound behind them near the entrance to the tunnel. They saw a child looking at the tunnels with wide eyes.

GM

Upon hearing the sound, Ael pivoted phaser up. He quickly lowered his weapon. “Hold fire.” He put the phaser in its holster and approached, trying to look as unimposing as a Romulan his size could. “Hey. How did you get down here?” Ael kneeled down to come as close to eye level with the child as he could. “I’m Ael. What’s your name?”

-Lt(j.g.) Ael Khev, Apex

He looked like he was about nine. “I heard loud sounds coming from the ground. I just followed it. Then I saw fire and light and more sounds … Then it went quiet. I was curious. I waited for a whole while. I thought it was safe to come down to see …” Then as if he remembered something, he said. “Oh! my name is Toki.”

GM

Ch’zaolrirh slowly walked over and gestured for Papa Bear to do the same. He didn’t know much about Ael, but felt that the Russian might be the least imposing of the alien trio. As Ael began speaking to the child, he wondered if the boy was surprised at the sight of the tunnel itself or just the star-fleet officers within.

COS Ch’zaolrirh

The Russian approached as he lowered his phaser, but still kept it drawn.

Ael heard the others coming. “Ok Toki. Do you know anything about this tunnel? Ever been down here before?” He wanted to keep the focus on Toki for now, if they said the wrong thing, he might not trust them anymore.

-Lt(j.g.) Ael Khev, Apex

“No,” he replied, “I never thought of looking at anywhere other than my village. When it became quieter, I did not go to school any more. Many of the other kids are helping out their parents but my parents told me to play outside by myself.”

GM

Papa Bear kept an eye toward the tunnel entrance, just in case the boy was sent in first as a distraction. . . .

Papa Bear (pilot)

“Became quieter? What do you mean? And why’d you stop going to school when it got quiet?”

-Lt(j.g.) Ael Khev, Apex

“Well, before, when its time to go to school, I just go. Even if I wanted to play some more, I still had to go. It was always so. When it became quieter, I can do what I want,” the boy said.

GM

R Smith AKA Jason Harn, XO

“He is meanink the hum from the microwaves, maybe?” Papa Bear suggested, while keeping his phaser aimed at the entrance.

Papa Bear (pilot)

Ael looked back at Papa Bear. “I was thinking the same thing.” He gently motioned for the Russian to lower his weapon. Turning back to Toki, he said “So when the noise was there, you just had to go to school. Tell me;” he pointed at one of the fighters. “did you see a bunch of those flying around right before the noise stopped? Were there louder noises just before it stopped?”

-Lt(j.g.) Ael Khev, Apex

The Andorian stood-by. Although there were about a hundred questions he could ask, he didn’t want to break Ael’s concentration. At this point he wondered what kind of lessons were being taught in school if the only thing keeping children there was some kind of mind control device.

COS Ch’zaolrirh

“I don’t think so,” said Toki with eyes widened. “What are those?” he pointed to the drones that Ael was referring to. “You mean those things can fly?”

GM

Lt. Banner maintained his security flight over the away team as ordered.
