=/\=Cmdr Harn, Captain Parker, this is the Cavalry. Roughly one hour until we have power. Gould. Out.=/\=

-Lt Michael Gould, CE

=^=Acknowledged Gould,=^= Jason replied. He looked at Kolar. “He named the Iconian ship? How are your efforts coming along?”

Kolar looked up, “The data firming… there is Iconian DNA in the natives… the question is whether it is direct or related DNA. the difference between us and another creature native to our planet is 80%, to a biped of a similar phylum is 90% so hard proof isn’t confirmed yet, but every minute the odds are going up… not down. At this point we are over 10% likely and climbing.... I suspect we can confirm it within the hour.”

Kolar

“Hm, as far as I know, hybrids born of two species are sterile unless they get some high tech medical help,” Jason mused while stroking his manly chin. “Did the Iconians modify the DNA of their partially Iconian offspring to create a new race? Do species actually do that to avoid going extinct?”

Jason Harn, XO

From the analysis, it would seem that the Iconians introduced their genes into the natives of the planet rather than ‘bred’ with them. In a controlled environment, it was possible to develop a species to a level where they would be able to understand the Iconian technology. From the data that Kolar was analysing, it was very probable that was what the Iconians were trying to do. Visitors to the planet would be controlled to add to the technological advance. This would shorten the time for the development of the species.

GM

OOC: I don’t think you could just do that remotely. Some one or some thing must be continuing the process and doing it via capture and release. You might be able to find the source… if not the ship… or the underground base via percentage of dna concentration.

OOC: I agree. When you consider that the Iconian civilisation was destroyed 200,000 years before, what do you think?

GM

IC:

=^=This appears not to be a ‘direct’ sexual injection of DNA but a pre-designed evolutionary changed designed to make the native have enough Iconian biology to effectively manage their technology. The capturing of extra planetary aliens was just another part of the process. Presumably because it would speed the ‘evolution.” Kolar paused as he thought. “It is unlikely that this is occurring ‘automatically’ now there has to be an actual biological leader… or a supercomputer continuing the process. The later is more likely… but we have to locate the injection machinery.=^=

Kolar

OOC: Please see below …

IC:

=/=Clear Lt. Commander. That sounds like the correct assessment.=/=

Parker CO

“I’ve never heard of anything so cold blooded!” Jason hissed, and considering his home planet’s history, that was quite a statement. The big man paled as he imagined the implications, and shuddered as he envisioned the kind of species who could commandeer an entire people for their own purposes. Not even the extinction of Iconians had halted the process. “I guess this proves that the Borg aren’t unique!”

Jason Harn, XO, shuddering at the implications

=/\=Gould to Dragoon and Olinski. She’s alive.=/\=

Lt Michael Gould, CE

=/=Clear Gould,=/= Captain Parker’s voice added. =/=Handle with caution. Were just looking for information. Not flying her.=/=

=^=Congratulations Mister Gould,=^= Jason added in a tone that indicated that he meant it. =^=When you’re able to, transfer the information up to the Dragoon and let Mister Balfor take a look at it.=^= He pressed a button on his armrest and looked back at Kolar. “I’m sorry Kolar, you were saying?”

“Well its a very long term re-population process. Its is far less intrusive than the Borg.. it doesn’t subvert free will, although it does change the ‘grand design’ of a supreme being. I think there is a significant difference between this and the Borg. Or any invaders from many of our home-worlds that had the 20 year take over plan. Invade.. rape the populace and reap children who would welcome their fathers in two decades.”

Kolar

Parker CO

“‘Doesn’t subvert free will?’” repeated a skeptical Jason. “Try telling Lieutenant Primage that. As for the long term re-population process, it’s chilling that a people as advanced as the Iconians would use a practice so barbaric that even my people stopped doing it centuries ago.”

Jason Harn, XO, getting on his high horse

Jason Harn

Kolar shrugged. “The urge to survive as a race is a powerful one. Would you have considered it barbaric if they married and spread their DNA that way? Or if they captured this planet via aggression, which they certainly could have. But they didn’t possibly because the races likely weren’t that comparable and it would dramatically change the social evolution of the planet.” Kolar viewed it as a scientific question. “So maybe they found the only ‘ethical’ choice they could make without dooming their race to extinction.”

“There are many races that we deal with right now that would not have hesitated to take this planet and forced the native to be surrogates for their progeny.”

Kolar

OOC: Would it be unacceptable for the microwave device to include a program that would “monitor and guide” the evolutionary process?

GM

OOC: For me its ok.

Sidney
