Kolar shrugged. “The urge to survive as a race is a powerful one. Would you have considered it barbaric if they married and spread their DNA that way? Or if they captured this planet via aggression, which they certainly could have. But they didn’t possibly because the races likely weren’t that comparable and it would dramatically change the social evolution of the planet.” Kolar viewed it as a scientific question. “So maybe they found the only ‘ethical’ choice they could make without dooming their race to extinction.”

“There are many races that we deal with right now that would not have hesitated to take this planet and forced the native to be surrogates for their progeny.”

Kolar

Jason could only nod in surrender. “You’re right; I keep forgetting: when it comes to survival, all bets are off.”

The truth of the matter was that Jason was too close to the level of scientific atrocity to remain unmoved. The last time anyone else on the bridge’s ancestors had pulled something like this was centuries ago, in their distant and nearly forgotten past. For Jason, the last world war his people had suffered wasn’t even an entire century before his birth. He came from a time period where the human race still had to prove to its neighbors that they were no longer the callous warmongering barbarians they had been when his parents were children. For Jason, this wasn’t merely a fascinating scientific puzzle but something all too real. If he wasn’t careful, his lack of objectivity might forfeit his right to sit in the CO’s chair.

OOC: Would it be unacceptable for the microwave device to include a program that would “monitor and guide” the evolutionary process?

GM

OOC: For me its ok.

Sidney

OOC: Wait, what? how would I explain this?

Luke

OOC: Ignore this, I read this thread first. I get it now.

Kolar read as quickly as he could. The translation matrix had much to catch up on. “This is clearly the archaeological find of the century and the engineers will be wetting themselves to get to the ship.” He continued to read, “The logs themselves are a testimony to the last days of Iconia. It would make a magnificent novel. “

“As I suspected this was a long term colonization plan forced on the Iconians due to an unexpected native pathogen that rendered too many of them incapable of reproduction.” Kolar paused.

=^=I think all of us who’ve gone to the planet and those in contact with us should go into quarantine until cleared by medical.” .

Kolar

Something in the data caught his eye. The tunnels underground also contained logs of data recorded by the microwave transmitters. The transmitters were also sensors as well … actually special sensors. They were gathering information and analysing on site to ensure that the ‘evolutionary’ process would be tweaked as …

GM

“Speaking of quarantine, do you think it’s safe to relay this data to the Olinski?” Jason asked. “They’ll be wanting to review the data as well but before this mission the most I knew about the Iconians was what happened to the Odyssey.”

Jason Harn, XO, attempting to control his technophobia long enough to appreciate the incredible find that has been discovered

“Its already in the Dragoon’s computer system. We can hold it here for a while to be sure there isn’t a computer virus of some sort. I’ve already partitioned and firewalled the computer systems, so we should be about as safe as we can be.” Kolar had learned the lessons of the Yamato from two decades ago.

“Captain Parker is going to be wanting an update,” Jason reminded him, “particularly if you find anything the landing party should know. Until it’s deemed safe to transfer the data directly, you’ll have to compile a report for him quickly,” Jason teased. “Let Koizumi know when you’re ready to give the skipper a verbal report,” he added as he indicated the young ensign at the communications console.

Jason Harn, XO, encouraging one of those multithread posts that repeats exposition on multiple threads so that everybody’s characters are caught up.

=/\= Gould to Dragoon. Did you get everything we sent? It’s amazing. This ship’s been dead in the water for ages and no one noticed.=/\=
