Michael took another sip of his whiskey. “No one in particular.” He was never comfortable around women in these situations, and one significantly taller than him wanted to dance. Years of social training had him by force though. He held out one hand for her and gestured to the dance floor with the other.

Emma rewarded him with a teasing smile as she took his hand and led him out to the dance floor. She glanced behind her to wink at Sidney.

As a few individuals started making their way onto the dance floor, Ch’zaolrirh had a strange feeling. It was as if someone was watching him, and it wasn’t just Maya. Glancing past the group, he made his mark on the source. Near the entryway two Andorians had appeared. He wasn’t sure how long they had been there, but it couldn’t have been more than ten minutes or so. They were both clad in dark green vests and black trousers. The outfit never went out of style back home. They were also both staring at the COS intently. Did he know them? Ch’zaolrirh’s brow furled slightly as he tried to recall their faces.

Maya was perceptive, she must have caught sight of the two before Ch’zaolrirh. Without turning towards them she responded to Ch’zaolrirh’s change in expression, “Do you know those two?”

Ch’zaolrirh’s antennae perked up. “No, but I have a feeling I am going to very soon.” Placing his empty glass on a passing waiter’s tray, the COSexcused himself. As he began to walk towards the entryway, the two Andorians exited. Ch’zaolrirh followed.

“Did we miss something?” Jason asked suspiciously.

“Yes,” Maya replied with perfect sincerity.

Jason rolled his eyes before leading the little Vulcan over to Kolar, who seemed more content to watch people than to interact with them. “Here’s somebody I want you meet. Maya this Balfor Kolar, our science officer, and one of the smartest people in Starfleet.”

“It is an honor to meet you Mister Balfor,” Maya greeted serenely.

Jason Harn XO (and Maya)

Kolar tilted his head slightly in acknowledgement, pleased that he did not have to correct someone in which was the correct family name. “The first officers’ flattering hyperbole aside, the honor is mine.” Kolar looked for a place to put down his glass. It was unlikely that the Vulcan would imbibe and he found it rude to drink in front of her. Kolar was known to have a Vulcan sensibility and frequently mannerisms. it was common that people thought he would get along with them… they usually were right.

“I wouldn’t imagine you would like a glass?” He questioned.

“I would be honored,” the little Vulcan replied as she clasped her hands and gave the Bajoran a respectful nod. From a certain angle Doctor Maya almost appeared to be smiling.

That was odd, Vulcans rarely imbibed alcohol. He put down his glass as he filled another with two fingers of the whiskey for her. This would be interesting to watch as he then handed her the alcohol. “Ice?” He questioned.

“Yes, thank you,” the little Vulcan replied. When she accepted the glass something subtle changed about her posture, but in a very subtle way, she almost appeared to be posing. She moved her champagne flute from her right to her left hand and shifted her weight. She appeared to be attempting to pose like a model, but the stiffness in her body language spoiled the effect somewhat.

Toro took a seat and accepted a plate of food. She positioned herself with the view of all of the entrances and most of the attendees. She took a bite of the food and smiled, it was nice to have a nice dinner, not often that she treated herself to items such as this. It reminded her that she actually needed to start cooking more rather than relying on the replicators. She was missing the flavors of Italy.

The young Englishwoman found a somewhat quiet corner and accepted a plate of food and a glass of wine. She ate slowly while watching others in the room. She gave a nod to the Captain prior to eating and then just people watched.

The Captain surprising himself and probably others went over to Toro, skipping Ripley who had taken a notice to Gould at the moment, and asked her to dance as the orchestra type setting was replaced by a band playing a song called Sugar. It was up tempo but fun and he figured a hot blooded Italian would want to dance.

Parker CO

Toro looked up at Parker and accepted his invitation to dance. For all the bravado that the Italian put forward, she was actually very light on her feet and knew how to dance. It was one of those secrets that she kept from pretty much everyone since dancing was not necessarily one of her job descriptions.

Ric had been patiently waiting for Xandra to arrive. It was like her to be this late for anything. As he kept looking toward the entry to the ballroom, he noticed the two Andorians, as well. They seemed to be particularly interested the the COS. Ric himself became more interested in the situation when he saw Thell approach the two just before they left. The hairs on the back of his neck rose just a bit. Something didn’t feel quite right.

He decided to follow along, just in case Thell needed some back up. He could always use the excuse he was going to look for Xandra.

In the meantime Doctor Maya did something very unusual for her, she actually initiated conversation. “I read your monograph on interspatial wormholes, Mister Balfor. What gave you the inspiration to reach your conclusions?”

“Really?” He was surprised that little paper wasn’t frequently read and he had never been asked about it. He remembered the Doctor that edited it calling it the most boring thing that had ever been committed to paper. “I’m a Earth Scientist by training… biology, geology, agriculture and the like. I thought the wormhole being a natural stellar phenomena would have similarities to things more common in the earth that in space.” He shrugged a little sheepishly. “I used the correlation of radiation spikes common to wormholes to the Fibonacci sequence and its similarity to the Tellarite grain worm. Needless to say, it is a little dense for a night time read.”

“Then I shall read it during the day,” Maya replied with perfect candor.

The Kolar tilted his head as he took in the Vulcan a little more closely. “It is a little outside your field, Is there something that drew you to this particular topic?” He couldn’t imagine why Maya would be interested in wormholes. “You aren’t planning on using my theory to trigger a micro wormhole of your own?” It was his version of a science joke.

“I assure you that is not my intention,” the greenblooded physician assured him. “It is just that I have always found the wormhole phenomenon to be a very difficult concept to grasp,” Maya explained, “along with time travel.”

Jason grinned at the little Vulcan’s enthusiasm, well, enthusiasm for Maya at least. She was still speaking perfectly calm with her almost painful formality. But Jason recognized the gleam in her large hazel eyes as she peered at him with that blank catlike stare she affected. It was then that Jason noticed Mirri eating quietly by herself. Since Maya appeared to actually be able to handle this social occasion for once he decided to head over to the British helmswoman and see if she wanted company.

“Skip lunch?” he teased when he reached her table. “You know I’ve been serving aboard the Olinski for months now, but I don’t think we’ve ever shared a conversation that wasn’t on the bridge,” he mused thoughtfully.

Mirri accepted the plate of food that was brought to her and she sipped a glass of wine. She was not a big dancer, this was more of a time for her to people watch.

Helm

OOC: Tyra Jason spoke directly to Mirri and you’re acting like he’s not even there! It looks like she’s giving him the cold shoulder.

The Captain was enjoying the dance very much. To his surprise Toro was a good dancer. She was also an easy woman to hold. Fit and curvy at the same time.

In the meantime Counselor Emma Ripley couldn’t resist teasing Michael. “Don’t tell me I dance that badly?” she smiled knowingly.

Jason Harn and his army of NPCs

Michael knew she had been teasing him since the moment they met. “No, no. I’m not much of a conversationalist.” One dance. That’s it. “It’s been a while since I’ve been to an event like this.”
