Antioch Mission Briefing

Posted June 25, 2018, 9:09 p.m. by Commander Jason Harn (Executive Officer) (R Smith)

OOC: I managed to find a copy of Captain Parker’s meeting with Admiral Hacker in my archives. I always like to save a copy of the mission briefing since its so easy to forget after a few months go by. Here is my transcribed copy of that meeting:

Jason Harn, XO

The ship made it to dock for basic repairs and towed in the Buccaneer for SF dissection and study. The Captain was sure that the Klingons would be screaming for it but it had been decommed and it looked like they had a weak case. Anyway SF had a lot of info on it anyway but more is always better. He could see it being turned into a battle scenario vessel. He really felt the crew had a tough time on this one. It was not a clear cut enemy and the emotional toll, not to mention politics of it all, had been draining. So it was time for the after party mission. Not that this mitigated anything. However he knew and remembered that Shirazi knew even better that a good party helped moral and eased the tension of a tough mission. So he and the XO, as was the tradition, would come up with one.

However right now was the meeting with the FC. He had already scheduled the crew to base shore duty as well as he could. Now was the formality of the visit and talking to someone he knew well. The subject of how they acquired the data on the Xarantines would be discussed and how it was handled he was sure of that. However most of that was handled already. If they did decide to censure him then it would be a light one and this would be the time it would be done. So as he made his way past the reception area he pushed the button and waited to be let into the SB Command Office.

Captain Parker

OOC: Awwww that’s sweet that he remembers Shirazi after all this time!!!

The door opened and Rear Admiral Majorie Hacker looked up. She was behind a desk looking at the reports on several PADDs. She gave a smile and stood up.

“Captain Parker, Welcome!” she greeted, “I have read what happened just before you came here. Was it that bad on Xaranthine?”

GM

The Captain came in and shook the Admirals hand. He then waited for her to site before he did.

“It was a mess and not one we intended to walk into. So we have seen worse but we were surprised that the Federation had not seen this coming. All in all it got fixed.” He said in a worn torn fashion to indicate it had been exhausting.

Parker CO

“There is no rest for the capable, I’m afraid,” said the Rear Admiral with some sympathy.”Four days ago, we received reports of a strange anomaly moving towards the Antioch system. We were not able to raise the colony at Antioch II. The USS Dragoon, Pendragon class, was sent to investigate. They did not detect any anomaly on the way there. They proceeded to the Antioch system to check on the colony there. We received the last report just before they entered the Antioch system. We have not heard from them since. That was two days ago. Command would like the Brian Olinski to investigate. Find out what happened to the colony and to the Dragoon.”

GM

The Captain had wanted more time and almost considered telling the admiral that. However between Antioch and the Dragoon there were a lot of people needing help, or at least it sounded like that.

“Any chance this is just a coms problem in that area?” He said hoping.

Parker CO

“If there is, it must be something jamming the signals, or some phenomenon shorting out the comms. If it is the latter, we won’t need to go to high alert. If it is the former, there might be a hostile power trying to cause trouble; that is a security and a high alert situation,” replied RAdm Hacker.

GM

“Well Sir that’s why you have the Flag Ship of the 5th Fleet on hand. I will prepare the crew and get ready to shove off asap.” He answered like any good Captain would.

In truth he had wanted more downtime but he knew the Olinski was the forward combat oriented vessel in the Quadrant. It was part of the job and he loved it.

Parker CO

“Thank you Captain,” replied the Rear Admiral with gratitude in her voice.

GM

He gave Admiral a short smile and got up. He knew the drill well by now. HE also knew his crew had a good time at the holodeck Luau and would have wanted more of that time. However each one was an adventurer and he knew more than anyone that adventurers and soldiers were not long for ports.

Parker CO

“I wish you all the best in your mission,” the Admiral said as she stood up as well.

GM

“Good day Admiral.” He said, saluted and left.
The Antioch system was a yellow star system between Mizar and Pyrithia. The Federation had set up a colony 70 years before. The second planet had a similar atmosphere as the Earth, although it was a slightly larger planet. The colonists had a reputation of being stronger than those born on the Earth as the gravity was about 10% higher. Other than being a colony that had been self-sufficient and contributing to food crop trade with Mizar, there was nothing exceptional with the colony.
