Mirri spoke up “The only concern with taking the Liberty class shuttle is the wind speeds, she would need a steady pilot who can switch with each gust. It would be a manual flight to be sure.” She said.

Helm

“Noted,” Jason nodded before turning his attention back to Kolar.

“The storm is moving East at a ground speed of over 170 KPH. A Liberty can handle it… not to mention I can see the area the storm is about to cover and the ship isn’t there, so it is likely that by time the Liberty makes ground fall.. if the ship was concealed by the storm it will be uncovered by time the Runabout make’s its arrival.

Toro stood at her station and was searching for the last known position of the Sierra “Are we even sure that they survived a landing? What if we are looking for a literal piece of metal in the sand and kelbonite?” She asked as she continued her search.

CIO

Kolar shrugged. In any case they needed to know and while he wasn’t classically what one would call optimistic there was no value in negative thoughts when those thoughts would not prevent a tragedy.

That was a good question. There was always the chance that they had been following a recording and not a live transmission.

Doolittle knew this was a mission for the CMO to be on. He also knew he did not have the medical experience to shoulder the whole load.

“I can go with a staff doctor as well.” He said not wholly sure that he was prepared.

Doolittle CMO

Kolar CSO

“We’ll keep the preliminary team small,” Jason decided. “Mister Balfor, you are cleared to take Liberty class shuttle to the planet’s surface and find the source of that signal. Lieutenant Lawrence will be your pilot. Take Ch’zaolrirh, Gould, and Doolittle with you in case you can land and make contact with any survivors from the Sierra. Inform me when you make contact of if you have to abort the mission.”

Jason would have preferred to send Ch’zaolrirh down to lead the mission given the Andorian’s specialty but Kolar had the seniority needed in case the away team made contact with officers from the Sierra and needed take charge of the situation. There was no point exposing more than one medic to danger since they hadn’t even verified whether or not there were any survivors down there or not. If they found the Sierra, Gould would be able to figure out if it was possible to get the wreck off the surface again. As for Mirri, her role was self explanatory. It would require a good pilot to get the shuttle to the planet’s surface and back up again, or determine at the last second whether such an attempt was feasible in the first place.

At the back of the bridge Ch’zaolrirh’s lip curled. While short term exposure to the temperatures on the planet’s surface would have a negligible effect on the Andorian, an extended stay would cost him at least a few kilograms. Either way, he prepared for some discomfort.

Doolittle figured a small team was wise. So would that limit him taking a “real” doctor.

“Small team. Only one doctor then?” He asked out loud. Admittingly he was nervous because ehe knew that normally would be the CMO. He was a MD but in reality it was not his specialty.

Dr Doolittle

Kolar stared at the screen deciding what would help the situation. Nothing came to mind..

“Sorry Doc, but seeing you on the bridge made me think that you wanted to be part of the action,” Jason smiled in a mock apology. “Besides, you seem kind of restless. Going outside might do some good,” he winked. He became more serious and professional when he rose from the CO’s chair to walk over to Kolar. “Stay in contact if at all possible. The last thing we want would be to have plan another rescue mission with no intel.”

Mirri nodded “Permission to prepare the Liberty for departure?” She asked standing up and turning over the helm to one of the younger officers. She was already going through the checklist in her mind and waited for permission to leave the bridge before just walking away.

Helm

“Granted,” Jason nodded.

Toro began searching to find the last communications from the Sierra, that might give a more specific location. She looked at Harn “I’m searching for the last communications from the Sierra that might narrow the search area.” She said “It might also give an indication if we are looking for survivors or if this is a recovery mission.” She added gravely. She was not comfortable sending out a team without at least some sort of intelligence on what they were looking for.

CIO

“Good idea,” Jason nodded. “After that contact Ric and request that he and his senior pilots join me in the CIC. We can brainstorm some options in case…” he paused as he glanced over at the officers he had condemned to an uncertain fate, “…anything goes wrong with the shuttle.”

And we can still recover the shuttle’s passengers, he added silently.

Jason Harn aCO, who needs to shut up and give someone else a chance to post

Toro nodded “As soon as I know something, I will notify everyone and provide a briefing.” She said (GM what does Toro find in her search?)

As a relief officer made her way over to tactical, Ch’zaolrirh relinquished his console and made his way towards the turbolift.

COS Ch’zaolrirh

Doolittle more than a little uncertain rose and joined the COS. He wanted to say something cheery like a good and refined leader might say but found he had nothing to say at all. However he put on a stiff upper lift as he went to the lift and an uncertain fate. He had wanted to study the human condition under stress and now it was that time. Little had he imagined it would be his own.

Doolittle

“Aye, Sir. Up and at em.” Kolar called out.

Balfor

“Good luck,” Jason nodded as he watched Kolar and the others head to the turbolift. It wasn’t until after the turbolift doors closed that he realized that it wasn’t anxiety over this mission, he was reliving sending other officers on risky missions back when he had been a starship captain so long ago. This is a milk run, he told himself. If atmospheric conditions were too risky to send a shuttle down he had already given Kolar permission to abort if necessary. He went over his mental checklist and assured himself that he had done everything that he could reasonably been expected to do. Now it was up to the away team and fate.
